Kansas State Football / Re: BSFS Expansion Thread

The thing I really appreciate now that Phogistan is back in validation mode about facilities.  Is the inability to acknowledge that outside of a few piece meal projects, some small reconfigurations and the occasional new coat of paint.  AFH went pretty much untouched for 50 years.   That's why it's hard to give them any real credit for any work done there.

The $30 million they spent on the football stadium in the 90's was predominately to prevent the place from crumbling to the ground.   The talked for years about a new track.

Again it just seems strange that everything takes so long and the projects are so relatively small on top of the fact they didn't even pay for Rock Chalk Park.   For a place that supposedly has so many bazzillionaires with millions to give.

Rock Chalk park was done on the cheap as well. I got to see the full design evolution from initial conceptual design, to KU can't afford it so can the idea, to "we will pay for it since you can't," to new conceptual design, to actual final design.  Everything was done as cheap as possible, but at least the have a dedicated facility on the opposite side of town from campus.

Bit older; same concept.

Comparing K-State's locker room and saying it's the "same" as others in the country because of its ovular shape, is like trying to compare an Accord to Maserati and saying they're the same because they both have four wheels.

Stop being a complete dumbass.  Thanks.

Same architect and concept, dumbass.

It's completely different other than they both have a logo in the ceiling.  Everything else is different, everything.

there's an open area in the middle and lockers on the outside, we basically copied them, stop denying it.

Exactly. Even if your locker room is a Lexus, that still means its following the body style and general design of a Toyota. That being said, TCF Bank Stadium is beautiful and very Lexusy.

because ceiling tiles are so Lexusy. Minnesota's looks like a movie theater lobby

And the comments to ^^that tweet are all Baylor fans saying we copied their locker room. I mean, theirs is complete dogshit compared to K-States.

 twitter has become a place for idiots to find other idiots, as if they needed help.

Baylor locker room = a Dick's Sporting Goods

K-Stat Locker Room = K-State version of the bat cave

he's basically the white version of russel wilson. he can easily replicate what wilson does in the seattle offense better than the other qb's on their roster. could easily pay jake league min and get rid of the aging and overpaid tarvaris jackson.

Which college town is Carlos O'Kelly's? I think maybe Norman, actually. I went there as a kid and stayed at a Holiday Inn that had a sweet pool and free foosball/pool tables, so I always associated Norman with that as somehow "nice." Which makes it Carlos O'Kelly's, because when I was a super little kid I thought it was really really nice but when I grew up I realized it was nothin' but a pile of trash. :dunno:

I agree. And, Stillwater might be Texas Roadhouse.

so...i saw a video shared on facebook that showed the completed video board. At the base of the board, it says "*Dick & Jane Johnson Family Video Board"

*I don't recall the exact name...but how damn K-State0 is it to have a sign on the rough ridin' video board denoting the above video board as a video board? I mean, what the eff, you guys??!?!?

Carl and Mary Ice Family Video Board. It's a big deal because we have peeps throwing around cash like halloween candy. If making clear where we got the candy keeps the candy coming in, then I'm all for it. Name freaking bathrooms after people if that's what it takes.

Kansas State junior QB Jake Waters will hold an individual pro day on April 17, according to Bleacher Reports' Brent Sobleski.

The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Waters underwent surgery to repair a torn acromioclavicular joint four months ago. The Kansas State prospect sustained the injury during the Wildcats victory over Oklahoma on Oct. 18. If Waters is unable to throw, he'll plan to throw in front of cameras later this month, and will send out the film to all 32 teams. Waters will most likely be a UDFA, and he'll have to hope that a team takes him on as a developmental prospect.

National epidemic? Then K-State should be a model intercollegiate athletic program on this issue and have basketball program lead by a coach who models the concept of stability and commitment. Not, a coach who cannot retain the players her has recruited.

38
They've been building the wolves thing for a while.  I really hope they don't completely resolve that in the final episode.

i kinda doubt they will even start to resolve it. the most we get is probably a cliffhanger reveal of who they are

Hope so, but I really wanted to see more of Terminus and the backstory there -- instead that entire arc was resolved in 2 episodes.

that tat face guy they let out of the storage container in terminus is still unaccounted for

pretty sure he was bit after he ran into Rick.

well, bookie, beams are horizontal so these, being vertical, are columns.

 :shakesfist:

Ok, then...  Why are the COLUMNS not all the same height?  I'm afraid this thing is all messed up.  :runaway: :runaway: :runaway:

1- architecture. look at the different roof heights and parapets and other castle crap
2- perspective.

but im not ITK so for all i know they really did eff everything up

it's fine multistory columns have to be splice together. you place the lower portion first, then once framing has progressed enough, you connect the upper portion.

fitz is such a piece, literally included everything we have said from the rough ridin' beginning, as if it came to him as all original ideas

https://kansasstate.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1745772

I like how he acts like Marcus Foster is the only one that ever stands around on offense. Um, that's like everybody, probably on more than half of our possessions.

non-motion offense, amiright!?

Exactly. Why move away from the ball if you're going to be doubled. Your the best shooter on the team and your coach refuses to call any screens to get you open. Also, never runs any type of two man game to exploit the double team and get your best post scoring option a cleaner shot.

regarding the fence, that's what happens when you let an architect do the actual construction. very realistic imho. you could tell rick wanted to come unglued about the "let's call it even" comment." not even close. total dumbass vs. bite your throat out badass.

I think oscar is a nice high character guy and a pretty good coach. But, I've never like him as our coach. I think it's a terrible fit. oscar would be a great at a mid major, he's not a high major guy.

I don't think any of the players, students or fans (not tucks) would have any heartache over K-State and oscar parting ways. Perception is that oscar has no relationship with the players, and is proving to be a terrible communicator. Part of what made the whole Frank thing hard is that he started out having a good relationship with his players. Despite his antics they still want to play for him until it all hit the fan. Now, I think everyone is just done with oscar. Players, students, and fans are all done done with oscar.

Base on who we are losing and those who are likely to graduate. I don't see how oscar gets to the tourney next year unless the rest of the Big 12 is awful. So why wait to see if the blind squirrel can find one last nut, just can the guy already.

They released the synopsis for the hour and a half season finale:

Quote

Daryl finds himself in trouble while out on the run. Meanwhile, in Alexandria, Rick and his group continue to feel like outsiders as danger lurks near the gates.

I think Daryl is going to struggle the most with the idea of living in suburbia and that whomever the wolves are will attack the community. Still interested to see what the whole Morgan following the group storyline means.

Kansas State Football / Re: KU football is hurting
« on: March 05, 2015, 04:07:56 PM »
Here's the thing.  BSFS is 1.3 miles from Anderson.  Perceived "heart" of campus.  But, it's not really the center of campus anymore.  Over the past decades, campus growth has been northwest.  Even if you don't consider jardine/athletic complex/rec center/vet complex part of campus, the stadium is still only .5mile from Claflin/Denison.

I definitely wish we'd built the thing on top of East Stadium years ago.  But, over the years, we chose to just extend campus to the football stadium.  Either way, it's essentially "on campus" in every sense of the phrase.

The city and K-State are about to embark on a massive overhaul of what they are calling the "Kimball Corridor" -- basically Kimball from College Ave to Tuttle Creek Blvd will be developed with condos, town homes, businesses, restaurants, etc. This is being done with NBAF  in mind, but it will certainly be a major benefit to Athletics. Within 5+ years, there won't be any more sheep lot parking, but there will be sports bars or restaurants across the street to get Pak'd in before a Catz hoops or foosball event.

You could make a pretty easy case that NBAF will be as important a city "center" as Anderson Hall currently is, and BSFS will be just down the street.

Related: http://www.found.ksu.edu/noteworthy/2014/new-building.html

First step in development of north campus corridor. Lots more to come.

http://www.k-state.edu/nbaf/documents/KSUF%20Kimball%20Master%20Plan.pdf

Better renderings of foundation office park.  Retail spaces available in there I think, restaurants and bars being looked at on the corner of Kimball and College, along with spaces between denison and TCB.

I had hoped that any development on the north side of Kimball would include a new football indoor facility....hmmm

Jerome Tang Coaches Kansas State Basketball / Re: Marcus Foster
« on: March 05, 2015, 09:52:27 AM »

well, we're a better team without Marcus because at the end of the ISU game he wasn't in there and we won.  so marcus being gone isn't that big of a deal because of that one time.

We're better when Foster is playing well.  period.  at the same time, he was terrible in the ISU game, and in that particular game, the team was better with him on the bench.  Benching him was the right call.

To me, this doesn't seem very controversial.  good/great players have off nights.  to beat UT and win a few games in the tourney, we'll need him to play well and play a lot of minutes.

The fact that the team was better with him on the bench does not mean benching him was the right call.

Sitting your best player because you think he is "off" is a lot like trying to time the stock market. You might avoid losses by pulling out your money, but you might miss out on even bigger gains.

exactly. oscar =blind squirrle

This season has been a mess, but he'll be here next year and any heat on his seat has cooled for the moment. Not getting to .500 and making some sort of postseason will still be disappointing to me. If next year is similar or worse than this year, he should definitely be gone. He needs to get things corrected and make the tournament next year.

I think he needs to win two or three games in the tournament next year. For that to happen he would need to earn a favorable seed. And, even if he pulls it off it just buys him one more year. I don't think he is in any position for any post season success this year to help his cause (getting to Big 12 champ, winning the NIT). But, poor performances in the Big 12 and whatever crap tournament we may end up in, turn the heat way up.

So, I will throw my hat in this ring.

Fireproofing steel is a redundancy measure to cover your ass. It prevents or reduces the possibility of catastrophic failure. But it does not prevent steel from catching fire. That is stupid.(Steel doesn't catch fire. It can be a solid or a liquid. Any flames coming of molten steel is mostly impurities and/or air.)

Fireproofing protects structural steel from the SIDE EFFECTS of fire. HEAT!

Steel's tensile strength from a temperature rise of 0-1000deg F. is a 20% linear drop in a pull test.

Steel's tensile strength from a temperature rise of 1000-1450deg F is 70% linear drop in a pull test.

At 1450deg F Steel is glowing reddish/orange and has lost 90% of it tensile strength.

Heat Capacity
Now that being said the fire would have to be big or hot enough to heat steel faster then the steel can redistribute the heat. (A candle has a different heat capacity then a campfire. But both are relatively the same temp).

Try cooking a brisket with a candle(1000F to 1500F) and see if you would ever get a 190F internal temp throughout. Where the same brisket would be done in 1hr per lb. at 300F. from just the smoke from a fire.

So for all you "my grill, frying pan, etc. if fireproof." You're are correct. It will not catch on fire. But those same steel objects have lost a substantial ability to stay formed and/or support.

Would you want to be in the stands when a fire starts in the basement?
The fire alarm goes off. (or doesn't hope you have a redundancy measure in place)
The fire alarm goes off. But no one can hear is over game day noise. (hope you have a redundancy measure in place).
The fire alarm goes off, and we evacuate.

How long would it take to evacuate a stadium of 50,000 people?? What if the fire heats 3 or 4 of those H pile beams to 1450F while supporting 3000 people, 1 Mangino and the structure? Catastrophic failure.

Fireproofing would be overkill for many applications. But, Insurance companies like it and when you cant evacuate a building quickly due to large amount of occupants in building or shape of building(sky scraper). Then it's a no brainier.

"Fireproofing is stupid"- Scarecrow

This post may make this a case of "Case Closed!"

Wacky??

Who the hell would cook a brisket at 300F anyway? Low and slow is the way to go, amiright guys?

you'll need to direct this request to the goEMAW meat smoking subject matter expert
