Smarties are universally recognized as the worst, right? I mean, sugar chalk. Blech.   

I always liked getting Starburst and the mini-3 musketeers or almond joy type type bars. The mini Hershey bars were kinda "meh."

Were you involved in the "discussion" with the ku fan at the end of the game on the east side? If not, it was your EMAWppleganger. Couldn't hear what the guy was saying, but he did not seem pleased with the loss.

Why is OU-KSU at 2:30 and not 7? Heard today Joe C sent Big12 official a txt after returning home from KU. It was 4:15 am. Point made.

I'd all but forgotten what it feels like to anticipate a football game for the entire week leading up to it...and to fight the urge to peek ahead to potentially greater things like Gameday in Manhattan and significant matchups with OU.

I'd gotten accustomed to sleeping in on Saturdays. Gameday was no longer relevant to even watch.

That knot in my stomach that would form around Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday morning wasn't there to bother me anymore.

It was foolish to calculate how many games we'd win. All that was left was to wonder if we'd get a win or two over somebody good so we'd have a season highlight.

Why bother to track every spot in the top 25? It wasn't going to affect our spot in the polls.

K-State's not a great team this year, but they're relevant. They've forced people to talk about them, week after week. As a result, those things that had faded away have faded back in.

Yeah, maybe it's corny. But fall was a whole lot more fun when K-State was relevant. And this fall has been more fun to this point than any year for pretty much the past decade.

Listen to Fatty. Enjoy it while you can. 6 years of being ranked leads you to take it for granted. Not this time around.

#1) Was filling out some info the other day at work on my computer, including name and address info. Person with me was insistent that I tell Firefox to remember my personal info.  Hey guy, how about you expose your personal info to others in your own way and let me protect mine as I see fit.   

#2)  Tip:  if you want me to visit a website, don't come into my office, tell me what to type in, then point me to the different hyperlinks to click on until we get to the page you want to show me.  Send me an e-mail with the link in it.   

#3)  We may be dating, but that doesn't mean that when my phone is sitting on the table you should feel free to pick it up and start browsing through whatever you want: contacts, photos,  etc.

Commissioners near and far, in their spare time between making billion-dollar broadcast deals, are calling for clarification and crackdowns. Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive said his sport, on the public-trust issue, has lost the benefit of doubt.

Ohio State would have been a serious national title contender if not for a scandal that cost coach Jim Tressel his job and quarterback Terrelle Pryor his senior season. The Buckeyes will appear before the NCAA infractions committee this month.

"That's embarrassing," Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany said in late July.

Michigan, the league's other marquee football school, was sanctioned for violating the limit on practice time.

"That was an embarrassment," Delany said.

Just read that the new Field Turf will be installed on the baseball field everywhere but the pitcher's mound. The batters boxes and baselines will be brown colored.

This probably makes me a baseball tuck, but I'm wondering why you don't leave the areas around the bases and home plate a dirt surface. Doesn't seem like sliding on Field Turf would be very fun.

Kansas State, which came into the game ranked first in the country in scoring defense (7.7 points per game) and second in total defense (219.7 yards per game), gave up 351 yards to Nebraska.

And that was headed into the 10th game of the year.

It's so hard to get excited for football season anymore.  

I know this is just rehashing stuff that's been hashed over and over again. Just makes me sad to reflect on how Snyder, Wefald, Krause, Fitz, Prince, Miller, Elliott, Stoops, Stoops, Venables, and Mangino brought this program down.

Typical "anything goes," "win at all costs" move by the squawks.

• Heath Peterson, assistant vice president of alumni and student programs at the KU Alumni Association and a Heard on the Hill fan, passed on a whole bunch of tidbits relating to their summer activities.

Here’s my favorite one, and it relates to a rather infamous KU billboard near Paxico that kept getting vandalized with purple paint and “EMAW” letters.

That’s “Every Man a Wildcat,” in support of Kansas State University.

So the alumni association gave the space up to the university for a KU Cancer Center billboard.

“I’m not sure they will want to deface a billboard promoting the cancer center,” Peterson said. “So far, so good.”

I hope he’s right.

Runza just opened in the old LJS in Mission. Now when you come to KC it will feel like home.

Place was packed last weekend. This area must be lousy with transplanted bugeaters. Love how they keep their big red flags hidden all year until they beat a local school, then the next morning they're all flying in front of their houses.

(cont) the fact that Self is going after guys who are choosing to wait until the late period. He's missing early and having to scramble.

(cont) Bottom line is it's harder to recruit to KU than KY, OSU, Texas, UNC, Duke. Have to get the kids on campus (Unless you're J Wright).

And I'm feeling bad for them right now. It's always tough to go out of the tourney, no matter who you play or what they're seeded.

Keep your heads high. You guys had another outstanding year. You got the bad luck to run into a hot team in the tourney. Happens to the best of us.

If the Morris twins and Selby return next year, you'll be the preseason favorite.

So keep your heads up. You've still got a lot to be proud of this year. Days like this are the exception, not the rule.

All of this would be easier to discount if he wasn't so successful at getting national attention. At the age of 5, Farfan has already received the kind of interest most high school seniors would kill for. The recent-toddler (hey, he was 3 just two years ago) has already received personal letters from Kansas State coach Frank Martin and Miami coach Frank Haith, not to mention one-on-one meetings with basketball celebrities like Isiah Thomas, as you can see in the video above. In fact, Thomas even pledged to attend one of Farfan's games, a quest which will be made easier by the kindergartner's invitation to join the Calusa (Fla.) Prep sixth-grade team this year.
