Jerome Tang Coaches Kansas State Basketball / Inbounds plays.
« on: March 13, 2010, 12:45:32 AM »
Baylor easily scored off inbounds plays several times in Waco.

Tonight, seemed like they turned it over almost every time.  Good adjustment by Frank and the boys.

...I'd be interested in buying it for the right price.  I'm taking Thursday off work and I'm just going to be hanging around the P&L, wouldn't mind getting in to see a couple of games.  Otherwise, I'll just be PAKin'.

Jerome Tang Coaches Kansas State Basketball / Sheesh.

Either this loss hit goEMAWers hard, or nobody's quite sure how to respond.

Halfhearted (if that) meltdown effort after a halfhearted (if that) effort by everyone in Fred Bramlage Coliseum tonight.

Barely a page of postgame threads, and none very long.

Is everyone just stunned?  Trying to recalibrate expectations for this team?  Not used to following college basketball and therefore not aware of the appropriate response to this?  Taking the loss in stride as another kick in the pants that K-State fans have come to know and love?  Drunk from celebrating Fake Patty's?

At least Jack's Granddaughter stopped by to try to liven things up.

Nike authentics ($75 variety).  #21.  $25.  Check your local TJ Maxx.

O.P. TJ Maxx has several black jerseys in various sizes, couple of purples in small.

Essentially Flyertalk / Worst quarter of the year?

Which quarter of the year do you hate the most?

For me, it's gotta be January-March.  So cold, dirty, and gray.  Post holiday hangover.  If it weren't for college basketball, it wouldn't be bearable.

Mich.cat's "1998" thread got me thinking about the first rule of K-State fandom again:  "For every seemingly significant positive achievement, there will swiftly follow an equal or greater negative."

With that in mind, how do you think it's going to go down this time?

Although...it spares us from Kellis' drivel, so in a way it's a win, I suppose.

Always have a good time giving the KC Star solicitors an earful when they try to get me to subscribe.  Can't wait until that rag goes bankrupt.

The victory gave Frank Martin 65 in his first three seasons at Kansas State, breaking the mark held by Lon Kruger for the best three-year start at the school. He's also led the Wildcats to their highest ranking since 1962.

Interesting, at least, if you're a college basketball nerd...and in light of the recent discussions involving the Big 10.

It discusses the lack of success of the Penn State program on the court...but large success when it comes to the AD's bottom line.

And it suggests, as the following commentary states, that some schools may rather approach things this way and write it off as "the high road," rather than get "down and dirty" (although their real concern is probably cost) to win--something we hear quite a bit from our Nortards:

1. What percentage of major college sports are content with virtuous mediocrity? And is this choice more admirable than selling one's soul for championships?

I speak specifically of my alma mater, the Pennsylvania State University, which now stands at 0-12 in the Big Ten despite coming off a year in which it won the NIT championship, despite the fact that the roster includes a guard who is almost certainly the best player in the program's history. I've written previously about my alma mater's long and illustrious basketball tradition, and every time I think it might actually getting better, it seems to get precipitously worse: On Saturday, I went to watch Penn State play Michigan State at the mausoleum known as the Bryce Jordan Center, where Daughtry concerts and tractor pulls generate far more interest than anything basketball could provide. The place was half-full; I was told it was one of the best crowds of the season.* Anyway, this post at Black Shoe Diaries outlines a number of the major issues, and also hints at the larger philosophical issue, which is whether it is perhaps more noble--given that modern college basketball is essentially sanctioned mafia warfare--to lose with dignity rather than win ignominiously.

MCMW, man.  MCMW.

Thoughts on Google's latest?  Seem to be some privacy issues there.  Of course, if you're still using Google products at this point, you either don't care about privacy or you're stupid.  Will be interesting to see if it catches on quicker than Wave.  Last couple of Google releases seem to be technologies that people aren't really sure how to use yet.

Jerome Tang Coaches Kansas State Basketball / Stat guys
« on: February 06, 2010, 11:51:40 PM »
Is there a place or a stat I can look at that will let me compare last year against this year in terms of our team's performance and results when Jake and Denis don't account for, say, 40% of our points?  (That's just an estimate.  The actual percentage may be different.)

I'm just curious to try to put a number to the eyeball evaluation that we've won more games this year where Denis and Jake haven't scored much than we did last year.  Try to quantify the difference our bigs' scoring has made this year.

In addition, “Chiefs Mondays” and “Chiefs Red Fridays” will become a regular part of the programming landscape at Sports Radio 810, with those days becoming heavily focused on Chiefs football.

Chiefs' new partnership with 810.

"Becoming"?  810's already pretty heavily focused on Chiefs football on Monday, at least.  Glad to hear it's going to be more so, now.

 :flush:

Not that our football's going to be worth talking about, but I at least enjoy hearing college football talk.  Hopefully 810 can find some way to sneak some in on 1510 or something, maybe on Tuesdays?

810's hitched its wagon to an unproven Chiefs' administration that proved squat last year.  Didn't they do the same with the Royals under Baird?  Real talent for picking winners over there.  Though, to be fair to 810, Kansas City is full of mouth-breathers who enjoy things like always talking about a football team that hasn't won a playoff game for decades or approving stadium upgrades instead of building a new downtown baseball stadium.

Look, I'm (unfortunately) a Chiefs fan, but I get sick of hearing Chiefs, Chiefs, Chiefs 12 months a year.  Especially when they're  :bs: .

Kansas State Football / Why even have a football board?
« on: January 26, 2010, 12:38:38 PM »
 :flush:

On the bright side, this should be the first ever K-State message board that has more posts on the basketball board than the football board throughout its existence.

For everyone trying to retain a bit of optimism about K-State's future, how 'bout this scenario?  Our defense sucks under Cosh this fall, enabling us to bring in Venzy as DC and HCIW next year?  I hear he may still have K-State as his #1 scenario as a HC...I guess we may figure out whether the unmentionable sin was committed against the old administration or against a donor.   :dunno:

Essentially Flyertalk / Too much TV you want to watch?
« on: January 25, 2010, 12:59:41 PM »
Anybody else having a problem with this?

Between the advent of DVR technology and cable networks like USA, TNT, and AMC starting to put some consistently good series out there, it feels like there are just too many shows I'm wanting to watch these days.  Also makes it tough to feel like I can give a new show a shot.

For me, between 30 Rock, The Office, Community, HIMYM, Fringe, Chuck, Parks & Rec, Castle, 24, Bones, White Collar, Burn Notice, Leverage, Modern Family, Better Off Ted, and Scrubs it's tough to keep up normally.  Add in college basketball, and it's impossible.
