Pick 6 TD to start the game vs. Fresno State in 04.   They then preceeded to give us the beat down of all beat downs.

Per speaking with 4 KSU DB's, of which will not be named:

1. CK is a stud. Smart, fast as crap, and has a cannon
2. Brod is not the WR he was before he got injured
3. McFall has the best hands on the team, but is a huge douche.
4. BB runs hard, but Pease will probably be the starter. Says he is better than DT, runs harder but is quicker.
5. Hubert, BB, and Pease will all share carries
6. EMan is a monster at LB, much better than he was at safety
7. Darious Thomas is still trying to get cleared to play, but is going to class here

Good info for sure nice work

1.  I've been drinking the CK kool aid for awhile I think he's going to be good maybe even really good like Ell good.
2. Sorry to hear this he was better then people give him credit for before he got hurt.
3.  Every team has a white walk on with best hands on the team.
4.  Still not sure what to think about Pease. He wasn't anything special as a RB in JC but the reports are interesting.
5.  Figured as much don't think anyone on this team is ready for 25 carries
6.  I hope he does well at LB.   Lamur strikes me as a guy who tears it up in practice and then is just so so in games.  I'll take a wait and see approach with him.   The first summer he got to KSU everyone was talking about how good he was and then he was just kind of ok when the games started.  His brother is the same way scout team hero.
7.  This would be cool if he could play but I'm not counting on it.

Yeah that was a really bad Louisville team that shredded us too.   Neither of the coaches from that game are head coaches any more and neither well be again.  Prince made the defense run when they got home lilke at 3AM and it was a Thursday game so they had class the next day.  That was pretty much the beginning of the end for him.  It was clear that nothing had changed with the defense from the previous year and it was going to be a long season.

Success at the high school level is not i
always indicitive of success at the D1 level.  If the dude isn't willing to work hard (like all the other players in the country) he probably won't ever live up to his hype.  He won't be playing games against Wichita South this season so he may want to go ahead and put as much work in as possible.

Yes but he was already pretty productive in the SEC as a true freshman.  Had like 500 yards rushing and 100 something receiving as a backup to a guy that was drated in the second round.

Brod runs faster then people realize.  AT least he did before he broke his leg.  His forty time was in the 4.4's last year he was our fastest wideout on the roster.  He got deep a number of times with his double move but we had trouble getting him the ball.   I'm not really sure where the Brod can't run talk comes from pre inury Brod wasn't quite a burner but had nice speed.

I have eyeballs, and if you put Smith at the combine and put him in the electronic timing that they use there, he's at least in the 4.6 range.

Nelson ran something like 4.5+.  Figurs is the fastest person I've ever seen in a purple uniform (not named Frank Murphy), and he had the fastest time at the combine with a 4.29.

Brodrick Smith is NOWHERE near 4.4.  And if we're getting these numbers from some GPC update, you may as well set them on fire.

His fastest 40 time listed by the NFL drat scout site is a 4.50.  Those are generally pretty accurate times on that site not sure if that was from last spring post injry or  from prior.  I was told he ran in the high 4.4's last summer by another player on the team.  I guess I could be wrong but I don't think I am.  He told J-mart he ran a 4.43 coming out of high school which was probably BS but I don't think he was off by a full 2/10's.

At the end of the day it's about if you win or not.  Snyder can hire his son and he can give his grandson a scholarship if he wins enough.

From a pure football and roster pont of view I think we have more talent then we've had in a long time.  My opinion is we will have a pretty good season this year and then set ourselves up for a really nice season in 2012.  If you look at 2012 the roster is potentially stacked we graduate almost nobody after this season.   So I'm giving Snyder these next two years to see if he can make a run.   I wish we had a different d-cordinator but other then that I'm fine with the staff.    I'm also fine with recruiting I'm not big into the rivals rankings and I think we filled our needs nicely with this last class.

If you objectively look at Snyder's first tenure it was widly successful.  Some will say look at his last 4 years and he's below 500 but that is picking and choosing seasons.   The last 2 years since he's been back have been moderately successful.  Certainly enough to objectively keep any coach off the hot seat much less a coach with Snyder's prior track record.  So the results have been good enough these last two years and the program appears to be headed in the right direction.

LOL at thinking our 2011 class is "very good".

It might be decent who knows.  On paper it looks pretty good to me compared to a lot of classes we have brought in and at least they all made it to campus.   We finally landed some d-lineman and a good looking dual threat QB.

I'm not one to say recruiting rankings are worthless but when damn near every player is rated 3 stars how do you really gauge recruiting rankings from one team to the next?  Our class sucks compared to TX or OU but it doesn't look much different from a lot of the rest of the teams in the league.  KU's class was suppossed to be so good but why because they signed two smallish 4 star RB's?  Brock Berglund probably never plays a snap, they had one kid quit already, others don't qualfy.  We're just getting started and that ranking is out the window.  Hell per rivals two of our highest rated highschool recruits are grey shirts and are not even really in this class that shows you how worthless the rankings are.

They're allowed to talk one day a year on media day.

Dana Dimel from today's media

On Freshman Quarterback Daniel Sams…
“I don’t see him playing that much this year. He may have a chance to play some at wide receiver but that might not happen because of the depth that we have. We have some really, really good depth at that position. Daniel (Sams) might do that down the road but right now we are going to have him stick at quarterback.”

Who knows maybe he is just playing it cool.

I for one hope he gets his head on straight and reports for camp when school starts.  If he does that he can still factor into things by the time conference play starts.  He's a headcase but he's one fo the more talented guys on the team.  Certainly one of the more talented D-lineman we have probably the most talented when he has his mind right.  We have better depth there this year but you still need playmakers and he is a guy that can make some plays.  Even last year when everyone says he was crappy we would  have lost both the Iowa State and UCLA games if not for the fumbles he caused down the stretch in those games.

Kansas State Football / Re: Tanner Burns
« on: August 04, 2011, 09:41:42 AM »
did you see him in the spring game?

I did not, but I strongly doubt that he is worse than Hartman.  Hartman gets clownsuited every single game defending the pass and he cannot tackle.  According to sd, Burns led his team in tackles as a frosh.

Well Tyson was second on our team in tackles last year and was just a few tackles away from leading the team.  Stats can be misleading and you also have to factor in Burns was playing at a mid major.   I'd be all for anyone that can get Tyson off the field as well but this kid wasn't going to do it.

was he any good or junk?

he led San Jose in tackles as a frosh iirc :dunno:  we weren't very good at tackles last year  :frown:

San Jose had a similar type of defense the year he played  to what we had last year.  Maybe even worse if that is possible.   Anyway safety's make a lot of tackles on bad defenses look at who our leading tacklers were last season.

464
This is in response to Manhatter My quote function is jumping around and driving me nuts so I didn't use it.   Sure it's easier to project a WR but it's not all that easy to project an all american at any position.   Especially since this kid has never even been a full time WR.  He's never really been a full time anything and I think OU liked him as a safety if I'm  not mistaken.

He will get a shot at QB at some point in time and he will play there if he's the most capable QB we have on the roster.  We're simply not going to have our best QB playing WR it won't happen not with this team or any team.  But My main point was it is kind of silly to annoint any unproven newcomer some kind of world beater regardless of position.  He's a good athlete he had nice offers but not all those kids pan out.  There are a few can't miss kids like Dez Bryant or something but this kid is not one of those.   Let's get him in here and see what he can do before we earmark him anything.

465
You guys are all frickin nuts for annointing Sams as the next big thing before he's ever even seen the D1 field.

exactly.  I think it's far more likely he's the next quincy morgan than michael bishop.  but this fanbase is so locked into getting another bishop it almost doesn't make sense to try and reason.  We had a higher scoring offense than Mizzou last year with Carson freaking Coffman.  We don't need Bishop but we do need players around our QB.  We don't need an electrifying playmaker at QB to have a solid football team.  Collin Klein is more than enough to have a quality football team.  What we need is an OL that develops, Bryce to be a player, and a defense.

I think it's just as crazy to annoint the guy the next Quincy Morgan as it is to annoint the guy the next Micheal Bishop  He's a good looking athlete we'll see how it goes from there. He was recruited to play QB and he's the only young QB on the roster right now so I assume at some point he'll get a look there. We Probably won't need him there until 2013 though so in the meantime I see no reason not to see if he can help at WR.

I don't think it is a given that he'll step right in and be one of our top WR's though.  WE have morer competition there then you give us credit for.   I know you like Bender but he's just a committ and who knows what happens if Nebraska offers him to play QB.   Too early to talk about SAms being a career WR because of a guy that hasn't played his senior year of high school yet.

466
I think Sams will be a pretty good runner at the quarterback position. If he is also a dynamic thrower, then why would we want him to play anywhere else?

Klein is likely to start the next two seasons at QB.   Do you want to sit Sams this year and next or would you like to get him on the field and use his athletic ablity at WR?  I can see the argument for redshirting him this year but I can't see the argument for not trying him at WR and at least getting him on the field in 2012.

If he's one of our top 4 WR's then he needs to play this year at WR and see the field.  IF he's not in the top 4 this year then you redshirt him and let him practice at QB this fall and spring.  However, he still goes back to WR next fall assuming Klein is effective as our starter this season.   Then come the spring of 2012 he can compete for the starting QB job if he gets beat out by a younger guy like Bender then he's a WR from then on out.

Kansas State Football / Re: KU's 3-4 front 7
« on: July 31, 2011, 09:19:02 PM »
It is very Ron like much like him I think they are only doing it because they don't have enough DT's to run a 4-3.  You won't hear them say it but it's got to be the case.  They didn't even run a 4-3 in the spring they're switching now at the start of fall camp.

If a team doesn't have enough interior linemen for a 4-3, they don't have enough for a 3-4, either, because 3-4 defensive ends are interior linemen, not edge rushers.  By switching to a 3-4, they now have their only 3 experienced interior linemen competing for one spot on the field.  Their 5 inexperienced 4-3 strong-side defensive ends are competing for two interior lineman spots on the field.  Not only that, they are also somehow magically putting more speed on the field by moving their weak-side 4-3 defensive ends to linebacker.  Buffoonery, I tell you.

I don't disagree with any of this.  It looks like they have several tweener types that are smallish for DT but probably not explosive enough to play end in a 4-3.  They mentioned they tried Lendowski and Young as 4-3 DT's in the spring and they didn't workout there.  I guess they think they'll be better fits as 3-4 DE's.  When you're stuck with a bunch of Peyton Kirk types like they are I don't know what you're suppossed to do.

When we played 3-4 we at least had a guy like Rob Jackson that made an NFL roster and Ian Campbell who made a practice squad and had a double digit sack season in the big 12.   Obviously we sucked anyway with those guys but KU doesn't have a down defensive lineman that will so much get a phone call from an NFL team and they're trying to run the 3-4.

468
who cares if he can throw?  he will asspound people with his running.  didn't he asspound texas with hus running?

Correct.

Kleiny this year will be a LOT like Beasley.  You'll see some fake-option passing (remember that beauty that he tossed for a TD in Boulder), they have to bite on it.

We have already seen Kleiny throw this exact same pass ( ), cept now he'll be tossing it to Harper and/or Sams (yes, Sams).

After Kavs left, Snyder completely switched to yards per completion as his measuring stick for the passing game.  He was to nail you deep every once in a while.  Partly because you can get a big play that changes the momentum of the game, but mostly because it keeps those DB's back there and gives his QB options for running like a bagillion times more a game.

Yes with the QB run game you outnumber a 7 man front.  So the defense has to bring up a safety and then you throw behind them deep.  If you have a guy that is a threat to run and can hit an occasional deep ball it is very hard to defend.   We know Klein can run and I believe he can hit the occasional deep ball.

Kansas State Football / Re: KU's 3-4 front 7
« on: July 31, 2011, 01:33:14 PM »
We never had much speed at LB either when we played the 3-4.  Maybe a bit for the start of the first year then we had like one injury to Antwon Moore and we were done.  The same thing is going to happen to KU.  They're talking how great their LB's are and how much speed they have but as soon as they get one guy hurt then they'll be in trouble because they have maybe two or three fast LB's and that is it.   Their LB's were slower then ours last year and that is saying something.

Pretty sure the game is tonight (Saturday).

Klein had 140 some yards rushing against MU on 18 carries.  He was also 4 for 6 throwing with a TD pass.  Hard to say he was horrible at any point.  They did shut down his running early in the second half and we stuck in Carson to try and make a come back.  But Klein came back in later in the game and threw a pretty long TD pass.  We moved the ball pretty well against MU in both halfs the turnovers just killed us.

Carson also had a nice long TD pass running the 2 minute drill, fwiw. No QB is going to have a horrible-looking stat line when they only throw 6 passes and the defense is unprepared to face them. Mizzou adjusted in the second half and we couldn't move the ball because Klein was a horrible passer. I do think Klein will be improved this year, but last year, Coffman was clearly the better option. I wouldn't just take it for granted that Klein will be an improvement over Coffman.

Carson played well vs. MU at times save for the turnovers he moved the team well.  I don't disagree that Carson was the better option last season.  I do think Klein will likely  be better this year then Coffman was  last year. He's just more talented and a better fit for the offense.  Look at how awful Coffman was his junior  season.  QB's tend to look awful a first and then improve a lot in Snyder's system as long as they work hard and are not dumbasses.  Given there wasn't much of a gap between Klein and Coffman last year I would guess he'll improve enough this off season to supass Coffman's level of play.

The question is not whether Internet dating isn't desperate, it's how hard do I mock my co worker

If he's a buddy of yours and not overly sensitive go ahead and mock.  That said if I were single I'd be internet dating.  I've been married for awhile and never did the internet dating.   I"m actualy a little bit jealous that internet dating, facebook and all that crap wasn't around or at least wasn't mainstream when I was single.

keep in mind, we threw Klein out there to the wolves. He was out there without our two leading recievers. He was throwing to Bachamp and Quarles for chrissakes.

Yeah, but every throw I saw him make ended up in the dirt about 10 yards in front of him. I don't think the receivers were to blame. Hopefully he's gotten better.

Couldn't of been every throw he was 11 for 18.  More then anything he just didn't throw the ball much and looked all out of rhythm when we called a pass.
