I think Skylar can throw the ball.  I've just always been mystified by one aspect of his game though:  You know how for the Steelers Big Ben would stand in the pocket (not a super mobile dude...) and some defender would come flying through and hit his leg, etc. and Ben would just go ahead and throw the ball like nothing happened?  Well, Skylar seems to fall down more in those situations.  Or he will often side step them, take off and then trip over the next yard marker on the field.  :dunno:  In today's NFL where QB's are either expected to be a bit of a threat out of the pocket or a super poised robot like Brady I don't know where he's gonna fit?

I feel a new "blue wings rising" type theme coming on!

Are Oklahoma and Iowa State really regarded as better than the Cats this year?  What am I missing?  I thought we had an advantage in Quad 1 wins or what not?  But I'm also a basketball moron so...

I believe I saw the term cornhusky used.

Since this thread has playoff expansion talk as well, I’ll put this here. I haven’t seen this option discussed before. It actually doesn’t seem too crazy. It starts with a Rose Bowl request that could probably cascade down to the other 5 NY6 bowls.

Basically, 2 of 3 years the Rose would host a quarterfinal at 2:00 PST on NYD. The 3rd year it would host a semi at a later date, but there would still be a Rose Bowl with the next 2 highest ranked teams from the BigTen/Pac12 on NYD.  Probably, this would cascade down to there would still be 6 NYD bowls as we have now every year, but 4 would be quarterfinals and the other 2 would still have regular bowl games. The two that have regular bowl games would then host the semifinals 7-10 days later.

Assuming the Sugar stayed on NYD night they’d have to split up the Rose & Sugar from having semis the same year. 2 of 3 years we’d had 2 quarters on NYE & 2 on NYD with every 3rd year having 3 quarters on NYD & 1 NYE.

Did the idea of an 8 team playoff just get nuked somewhere along the way?  I guess it always made sense to my brain (which is probably the fatal flaw in the plan...) to have the P5 champions and 3 at large.  Plus given the relative suckfest that has been the Pac12 for sometime now I don't understand the power the Rose Bowl seems to command?

Kansas State Football / Re: Targeting question?
« on: January 19, 2022, 12:00:15 PM »
i've seen it called where the defender was on a trajectory to make a completely legal tackle and then at the last second the ball carrier lowers their helmet resulting in a helmet to helmet. I think in those cases they need to give the defender a break. He was trying to make a legal hit and the only thing he could have done was adjust his trajectory in about 0.2 seconds to maybe avoid the helmet to helmet.

I realize they have pretty prescriptive rules on this but I think they need to also consider intent, especially since the result of the play could result in ejection. If the defender was doing everything to make a good tackle and then the ball carrier makes a last second change in direction/trajectory that results in a targeting calll...i dunno, i mean, what is a defender supposed to do other than only make arm tackles?

I'm usually pretty sympathetic to the defensive players too.  That's what prompted my post.  I felt like the running back lowered HIS head and smashed the defender in the helmet - knocking him out.  Made me curious if/why that shouldn't be treated in a similar fashion.

Kansas State Football / Targeting question?
« on: January 18, 2022, 10:48:27 AM »
I was watching the Rams/Cardinals game last night and when Budda Baker got knocked out by Cam Akers it made me wonder about targeting calls.  I've seen running backs lower their head and absolutely smoke defenders before but I couldn't recall ever seeing a penalty called.  Is the targeting rule only worded towards the defensive players?  Anybody ever seen a flag thrown on an offensive player for it?

Sark is a fat lump who has done poorly with top shelf talent.  If he fires somebody it could actually be seen as an ENDORSEMENT as to why they should be hired elsewhere?  And if Coleman really was let go due to a difference in philosophy then even better for him.  Not saying he should come here but just that he's better than some lame assistant sucking off the donor's tit while underperforming at a P5 gig...

You may want to mention that you're kind of a big deal on goEMAW.  I'm betting that will get you reinstated in a flash.

Their city name translates to Red Rocket.  When people name their town after a dog's junk... YES, it hurts the image of our program to play them.  No one wants to see that stuff.  Especially on national television.

Deep ball to Landry Weber, they never saw it coming
Might as well.  He just had one of the most pitiful attempts at a block on that wide receiver screen I’ve seen in awhile…

Every year… same crap.  Why must our shooting percentage be like a Royals player’s batting average??? It’s beyond frustrating and makes me hibernate u til the next football season.

Chas Nimrod is the best name in the world

Too early to claim him as my guy??  :dunno:

So they'll be snagging KU and Wichita State then, right?  Couple of storied basketball programs and you don't have to worry about football programs gobbling up revenue.  It's a genius play.  Wait until they tell that Leipold guy!  LOL

"Blue wings Reesing, Harbaugh, Hairball, Hill... Wave the Will Wheaton and death to Bill"

I've got sources that tell me this is what they chant in the locker room and they slap a poster that says this when they come out of their tunnel for games.  True story.

Guys and gals... I hate to sound like the pessimist here but is it time we consider removing the "going through" from this thread title?  Maybe we are hoping for something that just isn't realistic for our friends and perhaps we put too much pressure on them to change when a rough patch is just what they are?

maybe if he had 6 more years in a d1 program he would gain some consistency

I don't know how I (everyone...) missed this but it's a damn funny zinger that didn't get the love it deserves.

“The only five-star that we even concern ourselves with is a five-star heart,” Jones said
A truly remarkable quote for the coach of Tennessee.

But it would sell like hotcakes on a purple shirt at a Catbacker's event!  LOL

Why would a kid want to go play for a KNOWN loser instead of someone who just MIGHT be a loser?  Must just be a Nebraska thing...

I am glad we won the game and Will looked better over time... but I have to admit that I was a bit steamed when we were running the ball well with Jaren handing the ball off to Deuce then we put Will back in for the following progression.  1.) Will hesitantly up the middle behind 2 running backs for nada.  2.)  Will throwing 5 yards away from an open receiver.  3.)  Will hesitantly up the middle behind 2 running backs for nada.  I'm not too proud to say I had to walk away for a few minutes.  LOL

You guys are all so kind!  I think there's plenty of folks who not only like football but who would also pay a BIG10 dollars (Catchy little promotion you heard here first if our/their Athletic Dept. tries to cash in on it...) to not only watch the fightin birds get wacked on the field but also to see some prospective new BIGXII conference members or even some up and coming online charter high schools that don't exist pound the pigskin?  Either way, it's sweet of us to offer up the BSFS for them in their time of need.

I mean... we all have our favorite players and most business can surely figure out which face/name would sell the best for them but what about something like this from some loyal Cats sponsors?  When it's a blanket stipend like this for the men's football and basketball teams could there be any Title IX issues?

Help me out here... If you already have the field itself (turf) attached to your football facilities AND an indoor practice field - why do you need another entire field taking up space again?  Some of my fondest memories are of stumbling into or out of the stadium where that is in the rendering.
