Kansas State Football / Re: Holler for the Band!!
« on: September 11, 2015, 12:26:11 AM »
The league did do something, the fine and suspension came with the Big 12 reprimand. It looks like Schulz and Currie either had to do this or had to tell the conference to GFY. I don't think the university wanted to turn this band thing into college footballs version of NFL vs. Brady, maybe Wefald and Krause would have, maybe Bosco would have who knows but these guys aren't going to rock the boat.
We didn't have to make it NFL v. Brady.

We could have accepted any punishment by the league and maintained that there was no obscene intent and emphasized that any phallic depiction was purely coincidental, which anyone with a modicum of common sense would agree.  The narrative would've been "ha ha ha, it looks like a dick, but good grief, Big 12, give the guy a break, he obviously wouldn't have meant to do that."

Instead, K-State threw Tracz under the bus and insulted the man who has worked for the university for two decades by making him run halftime shows by some dumbass SGA committee.  And this is all especially rich coming from Schulz, who takes every opportunity to poke fun at KU on his very own twitter account.

Not to mention, all Schulz and Currie do is rock the boat.  They did it with EMAW, they did it with Jamar, they did it with Leti.  If they weren't so concerned with doing everything they could to ensure that K-State took the high road at every juncture, K-State wouldn't look like dumbasses as often as we do.

I haven't read all of the posts after this one so it may have been addressed by now but your indignation seems to be misplaced. The conference did not slap K-State, and have no doubts it was K-State as a whole not just the band, because of any perceived phallic symbol, they made that clear in their release that has been posted more than once. They got in trouble for having the kayhawk on the field and KU's flag and blowing them up. Why in the world would Schulz and Currie even mention the issue of defending the band against something that the conference didn't mention. Why would they acknowledge the crybaby ass victimized KU fans?

I...still don't know why we punished ourselves.  Do people honestly think tracz meant to do a blowjob thing?  If it was unintentional, then what the hell did we do wrong?

Lack of oversight. It's his responsibility to make sure his award-winning marching band doesn't employ sexually ambiguous formations, and he failed.

I don't believe it was intentional, but he and/or the band definitely deserved to be punished in some way. Schulz "keeping his mouth shut" (ha!) would have made this blown away at all. Someone from either the University or the league was going to have to do something.
I honestly would've preferred the league do something rather than K-State.  The handful of posters here are the only ones I've seen that thought Tracz did something wrong.  And when we issued the punishment on ourselves, the decision was virtually universally criticized as absolute nonsense.  I'd much rather have that public scorn and my own anger be directed at the league stepping in and issuing this absurd punishment than our own university.

What would Wefald and Krause do?  Probably something hilarious and maybe kind of embarrassing but in a more lol way.
Wefald wouldn't have done crap besides say "listen, there was absolutely no perverse intent by our band director, and to think there was is ludicrous."  I hate being on the side of "well that's just the pussification of america," but honestly, we had no reason to imply that Tracz meant for it to look like anymore than a cheesy sci-fi battle.

Don't forget, and this cannot be emphasized enough, this is the guy that thought EPAW was something that people would get behind.

Only FBS game tonight features our next opponent, Louisiana Tech, against a pretty good Western Kentucky team. Tech is down 7-0 early. FS1
While it's storming here I think I'll watch the second half.

Louisiana Tech's offense is doo doo, will be the worst we'll see this year.

Well there certainly isn't a Berniebutthurt thread is there.

You republicans better get one started because he's definitely going to win New Hampshire and if he wins Iowa as well it will be over.

I didn't say other people weren't outraged as well.

There is no ProgLib outrage about his candidacy because it is amazing news for Democrats. Bernie Sanders is the biggest beneficiary of Trump winning the Republican nomination because the question of electability disappears in the general election. So other than him being a deplorable human I am cheering my ass off for him.

Hillary is only a thing because there is nobody of note running against her.

Hillary is a thing because she has worked in politics for 45 years. She is a former Secretary of State, former Senator, she is a part of a political dynasty, she lived in the white house while being involved in policy for eight years. The only thing that she doesn't have that every atypical presidential candidate has is a crank. You can call her a liar or whatever but comparing her candidacy to a guy who has only addressed foreign policy with "I will be so good at the military, your head will spin" is rough ridin' insane. Anyone who asks why is Hillary a candidate when cornered about Trump is either a gigantic rough ridin' moron or a misogynist, there's no other explanation.

I mean, he's certainly not saying it was a male genitals and that everybody's just too PC about.  He's saying it wasn't a male genitals.  that if you watched the show and heard the announcers and the space ship blowing up the space invader (CONTEXT) you wouldn't have had allusions of sodomy in mind.

except people did have that in mind, including super big KSU homer Real Mike T (who also probably loves to hate on people for being too PC).

I was starting to doubt that I was on the right side of this, now I'm sure I am good. Thanks MiCat

No link but I was listening to the KU game and to no one's surprise Bob Davis went from utterly confused to what was happening to thinking they were ripped off to sad acceptance after David Lawrence convinced him the refs didn't cheat KU.

I want Mack to be the next coach of the Fighting Kansas State Wildcat Football team, give him 4 years let him win another Dr. Pepper and crush UT, and then let him ride off in the sunset.

You're gE'ing here, right?

NOT gE'ing at all here, but how rough ridin' hilarious would it be to mush Texass for a few years with the coach they ran out to hire Charlie F'n Strong?!?!

I mean he got fired because he wouldn't/couldn't get recruits to the University of Texas. Tyrone Swoopes was his quarterback, he broke their like 24,729 year streak of NFL draft picks. How in the world would that work here?

Thanks for completely missing my point... All I'm saying is that he's a WAY better coach than Strong and it would be fun/funny to see us beat UT with Mack while Strong is playing the part of Rhanni Princess.

 :buh-bye:

because black

Another "swing and a miss"... Not race related at all. Strong, like Prince, is following a long tenured (bordering on legendary) coach and falling flat on his face while setting that program back another 4-5 years.  Nice try, racist.

Help me out with something I'm having a hard time remembering. Did Charlie Strong have success as a head coach at a FBS program before he was hired at UT?

they seemed pretty decent @ zona.

Arizona was missing their all American linebacker, if not the best defensive player in the history of the program he's in the conversation with Tedy Bruschi.

ginned up entirely by twitter trolls who have nothing better to do than take a screen shot (and usually a cropped screen shot at that) completely out of context.

Joe Hubener is our quarterback, and we barely even had to recruit him.

When Mack Brown was rolling his strength was recruiting, his player development was always questioned.

I'd give him credit for trying to change the subject, but that's not even what he was doing.

Is there anyone at all, other than the dude who took that cropped photo from the press box, that was actually at the game that saw the performance who thought they were putting a penis in a jayhawk's mouth? I didn't nor did anyone around me did.

People who did not see the halftime show seem to be convinced that they were putting a penis in a jayhawk's mouth without regarding that their opinion may be coming from their initial exposure to the incident/controversy/whatever.

You yourself thought it was phallic at the game and you weren't even paying attention, because literally no one ever pays attention to our boring halftime shows.

Yeah, I thought the ship looked phallic. I didn't see a male genitals going into a jayhawk's mouth though. If I did I certainly would have paid closer attention, took a picture, and posted it on here and twitter.

Tracz should be fired, or at least banned from speaking.

http://www.kansascity.com/sports/college/big-12/kansas-state/article34560399.html
It doesn't seem like he understands why people took special notice to the show.

Huh? He's right that there is absolutely nothing wrong with referencing rival mascots. It is a harmless, good-humored tradition. Not sure if you noticed, but he was sanctioned for the use of the Jayhawk - not the Enterprise.

He's also right that this controversy is "downright stupid" - ginned up entirely by twitter trolls who have nothing better to do than take a screen shot (and usually a cropped screen shot at that) completely out of context. What he couldn't say is that the administration's official response was also downright stupid, throwing him under the bus and only reinforcing the lunatic mob. When these trolls do their trolling, there is only one appropriate response: ridicule. Instead we apologize.

Let's be honest, he was sanctioned for the simulated fellatio, despite what our PR wizards said in the press release.

Also, the 30 second video was far worse than the cropped screen shot.

"Our PR wizards" didn't say that, the Big 12 Conference did.

They actually said it better than we did:

Quote
inappropriate use of a member institution logo

heh

Quote
"The actions of the marching band depicting the disintegration of a member institution's mascot was inconsistent with the principles and expectations of the Big 12 Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct Policy,"

"inappropriate use of logo" and "disintegration of mascot" = "simulated blow job" in PR speak.

Do you not know that the spaceship blew up the Jayhawk and the KU logo on a flag in the middle of the Jayhawk?
