Tulsa is extremely woof when it comes to team names. The obsession with oil names really hurts them. Oilers, Drillers, now Roughnecks. Add in blah names like Shock, 66ers, and Defenders  :Yuck:

Will be sad if the streak is broken.

What if the long snapper guy keeps the streak going. I mean, can you imagine anything greater than a long snapper being drafted . What if he got taken as Mr. Irrelevant. Imagine sitting here on draft day, starting to shed a tear or toe for the loss of the streak when, BAM, with all the pomp and circumstance that goes with Mr. Irrelevant they announce Marcus Heit, long snapper, Kansas State University  :sdeek:

 :D

Not a typo, I'm like a salamander, shed a toe grow a new one :billdance:

What's so controversial about the quote?

Naismith invented basketball in 1891, and created the KU basketball program in 1898.  He developed the sport during his time at KU, and lived to see basketball become an official Olympic event in 1936.  Naismith became a US citizen in Lawrence and is buried in Lawrence.  Phog Allen was instrumental in bringing the sport of basketball to the Olympics, and as the founder of the National Association of Basketball Coaches, he helped develop the NCAA tournament.  Both men invented and innovated the sport, and their origins are in Lawrence, KS.

Those are simply the facts, ladies and gents.

I think you're having trouble with the term origins. Last I checked Naismith's "origins" where Canadian. Also the quote specifically says began here. The game began (even if Naismith was the true and sole inventor of the game) nowhere near Kansas.

Incorrect.  Naismith developed and expanded the game at Kansas, and Phog helped basketball become an Olympic sport while at KU.  Phog also created the NCAA tournament and helped basketball become the game that it is today.  The sport of basketball has origins in Lawrence, KS.... there's simply no disputing it (unless you're a butthurt 'tater, apparently).

Ok, try reading slower and maybe you'll get it. You said Naismith and Allen's origins are in KU when actually they're from Canada and Missouri respectively. The quote states basketball began at KU which it did not, it began in Sprinfield, Massachusetts (if that's the true beginning).

No one disputes that Naismith to some degree and Allen much more so help develop it while at KU. But to say it began in Kansas is just completely wrong. That would be like saying Eisenhower was born in Kansas. Sure he grew up in Kansas but it's an indisputable fact he was born in Texas.

KU
KSU
OU –(former KSU coach Kruger from Silver lake Kansas)
Stephen F. Austin – (Former KSU assistant Brad Underwood from McPherson Kansas)
Southern Methodist --  (Former KU coach Larry Brown)
Wichita State
Oklahoma State – (Bill Self’s Alma mater)
Colorado – (Former KU player and Wichita State assistant Tad Boyle)
Michigan – Knocked KU out of tourney last year
Boston U -  (B team)

I mean… come on Lunardi… give me a break.

Yea, no way that happens. Just the 3 Kansas teams and both Oklahoma teams being in the same region make it pretty :dubious:

That would make for good pinstripes too.

We missed the boat by not having all sports wear pinstripes detailing the monumental accomplishment that is Titletown

Running back Adam Muema left the NFL scouting combine Sunday because he says God told him to do so.

KC will probably draft this guy, good spiritual values.

less about Yandle and more about the issues on how the roster was constructed and the issues they would have

They cared today, they just folded up and quit when they had adversity. Did you hear the post game interview with Parise, because thats what he said? Kane's hack and wack act in the 3rd period was deplorable and a sure sign they cared.

Yandle was the only one you really brought up as being an issue with the roster construction and like I said, he really wouldn't have made a difference. With the current crop of American players I think they built the roster basically how they needed to to have a chance.

They may have cared, but that there was definitely not the same intensity as there was in the semis. I also don't blame them too much for just folding up in the third. Most of those guys are getting ready to head back to teams that will be right in the thick of battles for playoff spots and seedlings and a Stanley Cup means a lot more than a bronze medal.

Kane was pretty bad in the 3rd, but as a Blues fan I'm not a big fan of his anyways.

I said this team would have trouble scoring goals

the Fins play in the NHL too, that's a wack excuse, fact is that team had quitters with no heart and don't care as much as playing for their country as other nations, Russia was afflicted with the same thing

I won't argue with that, but I still believe this was about as good a team as the US could put on the ice right now. And honestly, a bronze means a lot more for a country like Finland than it does for the USA.

I also think it's a little harsh to dump the whole team in that categories. There where a few players who where giving everything they had up until it became painfully obvious that others had quit.

Is this where we talk about the Olympic roster? Other than Stepan and Howard I'm pretty happy with the roster. Would've liked Bobby Ryan too but I can see why he was left off.

Keith Yandle was royally mumped. The highest scoring American defenseman the last 5 years. Brooks Orpik, wtf? The Penguins GM and head coach a part of the process and two penguins defenders were seleted who habe spent the better part of the winter hurt. Also eff Brian Burke

http://espn.go.com/olympics/hockey/story/_/id/10195703/how-us-hockey-team-bound-sochi-olympics-was-named

I sincerely hope the Americans lose and give up a ton of goals doing so, what a horrific way to compose a team. I will be cheering for Oliver Ekman-Larsson and team Sweeden.

Jack Johnson was the biggest snub in my opinion. and yeah, the penguins thing is very wtf. ill still root for team USA.

Jack Johnson only has 11 points and a +/- of -12. If they were looking for stay home defensemen they could do and did better than Jack Johnson. Keith Yandle is without a doubt the best American scoring defender. We don't have the most skilled forwards one would guess they would pick the most skilled defenseman available.

Eh, Yandle wouldn't have changed the outcome of either game IMO. He may have given them an extra scoring chance or 2 yesterday but the way Price was playing I don't think it would have mattered. Today they just didn't look like they gave a damn.

MIR's gonna get mad but I 1) legitimately have no idea and 2) wll enjoy him lighting me up MIR-style with the answer somewhere within the rant vs. googling it.

What to the girl hockey players do the other 3 years and 10-ish months?

it's actually a good question, some of them play in a "professional" league with 5 Canadian teams and a team in Boston, but not all play because they don't pay a salary, they only cover some expenses, the ladies have to buy their own sticks. They get a stipend for playing on the national team and they play into the spring with the annual world championships. Most of them work real jobs and play in mens leagues.

Yea, was actually a legit good question. Also should point out many of them are still playing collegiate hockey.

I stick by my statement earlier than I enjoy watching women's hockey almost as much as men's. I think it's the women's sport that deserves a true professional league the most but unless hockey in general can gain a larger following in the US it won't happen for awhile.
