wait, wait, wait. so him being a career woman-respecter and the fact that he was drafted by and played his entire career for the yankees is reason to hate the guy? oh ok. he's going to be #6 on the all time hit list and he's going to have a career batting average of over .310, over the course of like 18 years. i respect his consistency. also he is pretty outspoken about not driving after a single drop of alcohol, also pretty outspoken about his respect for just about every opposing teams' fanbases. idk, weird guy to hate.
I respect him as a player, but his legacy is overblown, and the gifts and standing Os by opposing teams are annoying. He's been a very, very good, very, very healthy and consistent player. He's good, and its ok to celebrate what he's done in baseball. But yes, the way he treats women is very RockState2000-y. He just has more cash, but it makes me dislike him personally. I'm old fashioned mocat I can't help it.
Not drinking and driving is classy tho.
Also:
Yankees suck. Screw them.
I don't really have any problem with Jeter and enjoyed watching him play, I just think these "farewell tours" are ridiculous. If there's some significance (rivalries, player used to play there, etc) sure, give the player a ceremony and gifts. But, for example, the Houston/Mariano Rivera thing last year felt forced and awkward.
