Essentially Flyertalk / The goEMAW.com map project
« on: July 29, 2013, 04:59:19 PM »
Hello friends. As some of you know, I love maps and making maps. In fact, I love making them so much that I've decided to stop making snarky comments in michigancat threads and make some custom maps for goEMAW.com. I thought it might be cool to break down the demographics of the user base here at gE.c and show them to you in visual form. I'd like to make maps at both the state and county level to get an idea of where we've come from, where we've gone, etc.

Below is a list of questions that you can answer if you want. You can post them here or pm them to me if you don't want everyone to see your information. If you don't want to match your info to your username you can send an anonymous e-mail to [email protected] (prosecuting bad trolls on the internet since 2006!).

The questions!

1. What county and state do you consider yourself originally from? (If you're like me and you moved around a lot as a kid and have no ties to your birthplace, put the place you identify most with)

2. What county and state do you currently live in?

3. Did you attend EMAW?

4. If the answer to #3 is yes, did you get a degree from EMAW?

5. If the answer to #3 is no, did you attend another school? If so, where?

6. Did you get a second (or third) degree? If so, where?

Frequently Asked Questions you haven't asked yet!

Q. 42centraltexascat, what program are you using to make these maps?

A. ArcGIS 10.

Q. Will these maps be aesthetically pleasing?

A. Yes, SkinnyBenny. I don't want to shame the cartography gods.

Q. How do I know you won't use this information to out my identity on the internet if I'm a terrible/brown belt poster?

A. I'm interested in the stats only and will delete your info once I've copied the data into an attribute table. If you don't trust my word, then you can send me an e-mail from a fake account if you want.

Q. Can you make the maps interactive?

A. I only have a rudimentary knowledge of using Arc on the internet as of this point but I'm going to try and see what I can do.

Q. How many people do you need to respond in order to go through with this project?

A. As many as possible, but I'd prefer a minimum of 30.

Q. Is this a shameless way to try and atone for your run of terrible posting as of late?

A.  :don'tcare:

Go cats and such.

I bet it's kougar, since he's really dry rubbing it out to his Will hatred right now.

32
Like today, if we had a goal there's no way we would've lost. Gipson as goalie

33
Seems like it would bring a lot of excitement and eliminate the gimmicky teams of the world like Iowa State. Thoughts?

34
I don't think anyone can deny it. I'm sure plenty of elite basketball statisticians on this website will back me up.

Guys, we need a new rival. The hate and anxiety before and during each game just isn't there for me anymore, which means it probably left the rest of you two years ago. So who do we turn our anger on next? Flood Aggie is too pud of a school for our standards. Do we join the rest of the league in wanting to crucify Scott Drew? Do we get a heated shindig going with the Pokes? Do we call up Wichita and get an ad astra series goi--

Your thoughts, friends?

Is our "motion offense" really a "motion offense" or is it really a metaphor for the hard working Kansan that overachieves but never quite achieves widespread success when it counts?

Was Gipson's work in frustrating Withey's offensive movements a celebration of Gip's "below the rim" capabilities or was it a shining example of the lessening of the gap between whites and blacks in a post-racism society?

Doc Spradler's struggles: do they represent his inability to be successful against physical teams with lots of speed or was it a repudiation of the idea that having an entitlement complex brings one success in life?

Angel Rodriguez: Is he our best chance at creating offense, and is he a social commentary on the inherent benefits and risks of creativity in the workplace?

oscar Weber: Did he really outscheme Self last night or was he an example of how an otherwise unremarkable insurance salesman from Milwaukee can achieve great things with a bit of tenacity and elbow grease?

Thanks for your basketball answers about basketball.

A sign of growth for this team or merely an outlier?

Kansas State Football / Game time/network next week: 7 on ABC!
« on: October 27, 2012, 07:11:09 PM »
Here's the Big 12 slate for next week.

OSU at EMAW, 7 pm, ABC
Texas at Texas Tech, 2:30 pm, ABC
OU at ISU, 11 am
TCU at West Virginia
KU at Baylor, 2:30 pm (no tv as of today)

Night game? 2:30? I think Tech-UT will probably get the night slot but would love a 6 pm kick. Given that OSU is 5-2 I think there's a decent chance FOX picks us up again.

It's good to know that our football players are aware that West Virginia is an unincorporated commonwealth of the United States that only exists for the sake of producing MTV reality shows. The problem is, having a team that doesn't actually come from a state in our conference makes our fine conference look like garbage. Therefore, I'm starting a movement to bring light to the dark, shame-filled corner of our American tapestry. Let's bring these people into the loving embrace of America and grant them statehood. Sure, it'll be a project that will make Reconstruction look like a day at the beach, but they're part of our country too, and we have to show our love and compassion for them.

Let's talk about how we can take our movement to Congress in this thread.

Those of you wishing death on posters on this website have been reported to the Department of Homeland Security. So, that means basically all of you.
