Essentially Flyertalk / The goEMAW.com map project
« on: July 29, 2013, 04:59:19 PM »
Hello friends. As some of you know, I love maps and making maps. In fact, I love making them so much that I've decided to stop making snarky comments in michigancat threads and make some custom maps for goEMAW.com. I thought it might be cool to break down the demographics of the user base here at gE.c and show them to you in visual form. I'd like to make maps at both the state and county level to get an idea of where we've come from, where we've gone, etc.
Below is a list of questions that you can answer if you want. You can post them here or pm them to me if you don't want everyone to see your information. If you don't want to match your info to your username you can send an anonymous e-mail to [email protected] (prosecuting bad trolls on the internet since 2006!).
The questions!
1. What county and state do you consider yourself originally from? (If you're like me and you moved around a lot as a kid and have no ties to your birthplace, put the place you identify most with)
2. What county and state do you currently live in?
3. Did you attend EMAW?
4. If the answer to #3 is yes, did you get a degree from EMAW?
5. If the answer to #3 is no, did you attend another school? If so, where?
6. Did you get a second (or third) degree? If so, where?
Frequently Asked Questions you haven't asked yet!
Q. 42centraltexascat, what program are you using to make these maps?
A. ArcGIS 10.
Q. Will these maps be aesthetically pleasing?
A. Yes, SkinnyBenny. I don't want to shame the cartography gods.
Q. How do I know you won't use this information to out my identity on the internet if I'm a terrible/brown belt poster?
A. I'm interested in the stats only and will delete your info once I've copied the data into an attribute table. If you don't trust my word, then you can send me an e-mail from a fake account if you want.
Q. Can you make the maps interactive?
A. I only have a rudimentary knowledge of using Arc on the internet as of this point but I'm going to try and see what I can do.
Q. How many people do you need to respond in order to go through with this project?
A. As many as possible, but I'd prefer a minimum of 30.
Q. Is this a shameless way to try and atone for your run of terrible posting as of late?
A.
Go cats and such.
