It's cheaper to pay lawyers than to pay your taxes.

"Ultimately, I am confident that the Supreme Court will not take what would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress," Obama said at a news conference with the leaders of Canada and Mexico.

This statement hit me really hard yesterday. It would seem that our president believes any law passed by a democratically elected body is exempt from following the US Constitution, and that the Supreme court has never struck down a law that has been passed by a majority. This is why we have three separate branches of government, to protect the people from this kind of mob ideology.  Also, I wouldn't call 219-212 a strong majority, especially since the last 4 democrat votes had to be purchased by him.

The law, bitterly opposed by organized labor in the state and across the nation, limits the collective bargaining powers of some public employees. And it just happens that the Hartland-Lakeside teachers' collective bargaining agreement expired on June 30. So now, freed from the expensive WEA Trust deal, the school district has changed insurers.

"It's going to save us about $690,000 in 2011-2012," says Schilling. Insurance costs that had been about $2.5 million a year will now be around $1.8 million. What union leaders said would be a catastrophe will in fact be a boon to teachers and students.

According to Gallup, 43% rate Obama a better president than Bush, while 34% rate him as a worse president; another 22% say the two president are "about the same."

That's 56% rate Pres Obama "about the same or worse" than Bush. I really enjoyed the headline.

As all of DC leaves work at the same time, the United States experiences a brief economic recovery.

Obama is coming after us, guys. Mentioned 6 times in his speech yesterday that  corporate jet owners (K-State grads) need to be excessively taxed to bail the US out of the current depression. I have the money, but it doesn't seem fair. Why should KU grads get a break? :shakesfist:

Did any of you know this starts in Jan 2013?

Quote
Beginning January 1, 2013, ObamaCare imposes a 3.8% Medicare tax on unearned income, including the sale of single family homes, townhouses, co-ops, condominiums, and even rental income.

In February 2010, 5.02 million homes were sold, according to the National Association of Realtors.  On any given day, the sale of a house, townhome, condominium, co-op, or income from a rental property can push middle-income families over the $250,000 threshold and slam them with a new tax they can’t afford.

This new ObamaCare tax is the first time the government will apply a 3.8 percent tax on unearned income.  This new tax on home sales and unearned income and other Medicare taxes raise taxes more than $210 billion to pay for ObamaCare.   The National Association of Realtors called this new Medicare tax on unearned income “destructive” and “ill-advised” and warned it would hurt job creation.

The rebels, armed with rocket launchers, anti-aircraft guns and tanks, called Wednesday for U.N.-backed air strikes on foreign mercenaries it said were fighting for Gaddafi.

Opposition activists called for a no-fly zone, echoing a demand by Libya's deputy U.N. envoy, who now opposes Gaddafi.

"Bring Bush! Make a no fly zone, bomb the planes," shouted soldier-turned-rebel Nasr Ali, referring to a no-fly zone imposed on Iraq in 1991 by then U.S. President George Bush.

Q: You stirred up quite a controversy with your comments regarding birthers and your plans to release more information regarding President Barack Obama's birth certificate. How is that coming?

Abercrombie: I got a letter from someone the other day who was genuinely concerned about it; it is not all just political agenda. They were talking on Olelo last night about this; it has a political implication for 2012 that we simply cannot have.

(Abercrombie said there is a recording of the birth in the State Archives and he wants to use that.)

It was actually written I am told, this is what our investigation is showing, it actually exists in the archives, written down ...

...What I can do, and all I have ever said, is that I am going to see to it as governor that I can verify to anyone who is honest about it that this is the case.

If there is a political agenda then there is nothing I can do about that, nor can the president.

Calm down, dude.  I'm not going to sift through 150 pages of bullshit just to make a post.  I realize it's stressful right now for K-State fans and your impending mid major status, but get a grip.

hey beems, thoughts on the Pac 10 plane heading back to the west coast and skipping the KU meeting?

I don't know... I've heard reports that a meeting will take place tonight.

That was from when the plane was going to Kansas City last night.  Now it's not.

Well, I've also been hearing reports that the Pac 10 has already offered KU, so maybe they had a teleconference or something last night and didn't need to formally meet face to face.

 :dunno:

They found out your airport won't support private jet travel and reneged.
