I did a little math:

Assuming ND loses and falls behind Oregon, we gain in two polls, but Oregon gains in six. If both KSU and Oregon pass ND in all polls (and no other teams move), our computer ranking would go from .940 to .960, while Oregon's would go from .850 to .890. That would give Oregon a .0048 point lead over us, assuming the poll gap stays consistent. .0048 BCS points translates into approximately 7 coaches poll points OR 14 Harris Poll points that we would need to close the gap.

What happens to Florida is almost as important as ND, really.

if the human votes stay the same, your math is wrong....given what you stated (our computer at .96 Oregon at .89) we stay well ahead of Oregon

oh crap, you're right:

Now:

KSU: .9318
UO: .9166

Computers only change:

KSU: .9385
UO: .9299

It takes a shitload of voters changing their mind for Oregon to make that up (100 Harris points ~= .0117 BCS points; 100 Coaches points ~= .0267 BCS points)

i guess i just don't get it.  i mean, the charging pad is going to be in the same place as your cord would/could be. the difference between setting something on a designated charging pad, versus just plugging in the connector seems minimal, at best.

and you're right, places like starbucks are already going down this path, and we all know how i feel about hanging out at coffee shops.

I think a stationary pad is less cluttery in addition to being quicker and less likely to damage your phone. But like I said, nothing any phone manufacturer adds is going to change your life.
LTE radios, Quad-band radios, mini-hdmi connector standardization, high resolution touch screens, expanded internal memory, faster more efficient cpu's, better operating systems ....there are a lot of things that improve the experience much more than wireless charging.  because its a gimmick.

none of those will change my life. at all.

So CBS news literally just said..."The popular vote tonight won't mean a thing, it's strictly about the electoral vote"...what exactly is so important about our "right" to vote?

And another from someone else:

eventually, that's great, if you're a phone.  do you really think installing wireless charging equipment around your house will make your life significantly better than just plugging it in, so much so that you'd be willing to pay for the expense?

i mean, take your end table example from earlier, do you have any idea how far off something like that is, just from a cost perspective?  let alone thinking a tightass like you is going to be retrofitting his house with the necessary equipment instead of just plugging the phone into whichever power outlet is 3 feet away.

It won't start in homes - it will start with offices and institutions. They already include wired power options embedded in tables and desks so wireless charging won't be a major step for them. You'll probably also see it early in places like airports and hotels that I mentioned. Here's an example of a large office furniture company that is already selling wireless charging (and I have seen prototypes that aren't visible on the surface):

http://www.ki.com/products/415/2738/Accessories/Qi_Wireless_Power_Grommet/.aspx?ncat=2&sitecat=51

As for the house, I wouldn't replace any furniture for the technology, but I wouldn't mind having a couple charging pads for a phone - that cost would be minimal, especially since phones are starting to include them. Eventually I'd maybe have one on a bookshelf or something where I could charge a laptop when it's not in use. You can argue it won't make my life "significantly better", and you'd definitely be right. But there aren't many products out there today that would make my life "significantly better".

if that's the best pro-wireless charging analogy you could come up with, i'm going to go ahead and /thread the wireless charging debate, good job, "mo"

Why would someone be anti-wireless charging?

i'm not anti-it.  it's a gimmick, that's all.

I don't think it's a gimmick at all - gimmick implies that no one would want or use it. Nokia may be using it to "get ahead" or whatever but I predict that eventually every new phone will have the ability to be charged wirelessly.

hint:  we're way ahead

that's really interesting, and not so much because of KSU kicking unbelievable amounts of ass.

johnson, not the incumbant dem senator, dem asian military guy us rep, various coinpick local 'pubs, yes on gov's tax hike, yes on 2 yr budget, yes on limiting union pol influence, yes on abolishing death penalty, yes on ammend 3 strikes, yes on gmo labels, no on the other tax hike, yes on tax out of state business, yes on local libraries funding.

can't recall the other ballot initiatives i either voted for or against, but i love them all.  love voting on stuff.

Gov's tax hike is a sham, none of the $6 billion will make it to children - it will go into an account labeled for education and right out the other end to the general fund, and if it doesn't pass, he won't cut any money to schools.

yeah, I voted no on that hike. The school ads were hella misleading. (<-local term)

Was the union deduction issue just that people could voluntarily submit paperwork to have it deducted by payroll or are California districts closed shops?  As a right-to-work state I think the payroll deduction is a good counter-balance.  Unions will be completely irrelevant if they aren't.  It is mostly a small dedicated group that negotiates now with little to no input from the majority other than a pro-forma vote on the negotiated agreement, with massive disinterest.  If it goes away and people vote to dissolve the union, working conditions, salary, benefits will all be significantly worse.

The prop allows union workers to opt in if they want automatic payroll deduction for the purpose of campaign contributions. Same for corporate employees. Basically allows all employees to contribute to anybody they wish or not at all. Pretty simple. Unions are freaking out because it could allow for a more balanced government in CA that is now basically owned a and run by the unions.

Yeah if it is expanding the right, that is fine.  I mean I think charities and interest groups should have free reign at tax time and on payrolls.  It is convenient and proven to increase donations.

Um, that's not what it's doing. It's saying dues collected via payroll deduction can't be used for political donation. There are other parts, too:

Haven't seen these guys on here yet.  Name is Lucero, make sure you find the alt-punk-country band from Memphis and not the Mexican one.  I don't know anything about the Mexican one.  However I think these guys are pretty sweet and I caught a couple of their songs on the new album getting played during a game on tv.  Like when they're transitioning to commercial and they play a song and put the credits in the corner you know.  check it

Lucero is good. If you like them, you should check out Felice Brothers:

it still stands.  they are regular crazy, and then they add another extra layer of crazy on top.

Nope, it's like the difference between a serial killer that kills 49 people and a serial killer that kills 50.

mormons are way more batshit crazy than regular christians.

no, denied.

But I do know Catholics don't consider Mormons to be Christians.

have you ever read all the crap that they believe in?  batshit crazy.  they believe that in a war between good and evil, black people are black because they are neutral.  i mean, wtf.

all religions are like that fwiw

yes, but my original comment that krusty denied was that mormons are more batshit crazy than regular christians.  this statement is very true.

No, they're all off the charts crazy. I mean once you believe in Resurrection and spirits and the power of prayer you lose your ability to look down on ANYONE for being crazy. Catholics STILL tell people a God will send them to a fire pit for eternity if they use condoms. But Mormons are the crazy ones? OK.

We've already had this discussion though in the religion thread, feel free to reread.

We have damn near 100 point lead in the Coaches poll over ND, its safe to say ND is 4th in the majority of the voters polls

the margin between us and ND doesn't matter - what matters is how many voters have us ranked UO-ND-KSU vs. KSU-ND-UO.

what's awesome about it?  i've never had a problem plugging a cable into my phone.

I've had a micro USB port get damaged so it wouldn't charge and I had to return it.

I use my phone as an alarm, so having it wireless means I don't have to plug the phone in the dark, and when I grab it to shut it off in the morning I won't risk pulling it too far from the plug and damaging the port.

I think it will get really cool when the wirelses charging/power stations are embedded in nightstands and desks and kitchen counters and things. Laptops and kitchen appliances will be able to be powered/charged wirelessly. Hotels will have them so you won't need to unpack your charger when you travel. There are obviously a lot of hurdles and standards to develop, but it will be pretty cool as the technology improves.

My USB port is pretty jacked right now.  It still charges but the cable falls out if you look at it wrong.  Not too worried as my upgrade just occurred so now I just need to decide what phone I'm going to get.  Hey, Rusty, how does insurance/warranty stuff work with prepaid plans?  Pretty similar to regular plans?

I don't know, it was under warranty and I didn't have a problem replacing it. I don't have insurance or anything.

In the AP poll we have 16 2nd place votes, 42 3rd place, and 1 4th place

AP doesn't matter.

Oklahoma State tried to influence votes.

And the computers are nice, but we will gain ground on Oregon in human polls if ND loses.

I'm guessing more voters have us ranked Oregon-ND-KSU than KSU-ND-Oregon. Therefore if ND loses, we gain in human polls.

No, you are bad at guessing.

It's highly unlikely that I'm wrong.
