i think there is a very strong argument that with the pax americana era dying or already dead, we need to increase defense spending. we aren't going to do so, but we should.

I think the plan was stop the orcs (successful) and now they are just stuck in place grinding up the orc olds/pedos. Eventually putin will die and someone new will come in and possibly reach an accord.
the idea that russia would view losing a few hundred k soldiers (many criminals, drunks and ukrainian nationals) in exchange for taking eastern ukraine as a loss is pretty delusional, imo.
meanwhile, the united states in the last few years will have reneged on a treaty with iran, abandoned the kurds, abandoned our supporters in afghanistan and abandoned ukraine. i don't know why anyone globally would trust us to fulfill any commitment we might make.
