Kansas State Football / Re: The CSU to Big 12 Argument
« on: September 05, 2018, 07:40:37 AM »
CSU vs CU at Mile High Stadium tonight at 7:30PM MST.  TV: CBS Sports

Luckily we don't have Pac-12 refs this year.

I like CSU and would much rather have them in the conference than Baylor. I'm pulling for your team to put it together and make a bowl game. Good luck!

This is not a compliment Mike, just so you know.

Would wear!

I would consider anyone wearing this a "T-Shirt Fan" who probably never set foot on campus.

Dillon's shirt.

https://www.prweek.com/article/1491030/sources-baylor-used-mole-aid-comms-during-sexual-assault-crisis
Just read deadspin's coverage of this.  Why the Big 12 allows this university to coexist in the fraternity is beyond me.  The entire institution is beyond redemption.  I know some were worried about the effects of punishing the entire institution would have on non-involved student athletes, but that can easily be remedied by making Baylor pay for their education elsewhere and allowing immediate transfers when their athletic department is banned from all competition.

Just read that prweek link...geesh. Student activities employee/lackey on campus provided intel on rape survivors' political actions to BU administrators. Administrators call their multi-million dollar for hire communication consulting firm to see what the next step in damage control will be.

There has to at least be a conversation at the conference level on other options, right?

I'm more annoyed about the powercat position than the incorrect helmet color.

The logo...jfc. This shirt is hurtful.

Mississippi, full of poors. Can confirm.

Are there any grumblings, legitimate ones, that the conference might actually seek to excommunicate these zealots? Hell, even Colorado State looks better than these guys at the moment. Although, I'd probably just add Cincinnati to give WVU a play pal.

The idea that Bill is making any decisions about his own football future based on rough ridin' Brent Venables is Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!)-o.

I honestly don’t care if he’s holding the university hostage or not he doesn’t have more than a few years left in him anyway.

Exactly, let this east coast loser hold his money. He's not EMAW with that kind of behavior, imho.

How in the hell did no one think to invert the powercat and the state?

No crap...

One theory...bigs are not central to the oscar Weber system, therefore he doesn't expend as much recruiting capital on a resource that is already overvalued because of limits to market supply? In general, current era Nova excluded, the blue bloods get the quality bigs, with certain programs in which the big is central to the system getting in on some as well (Huggins comes to mind).

Another theory, there are less quality bigs coming out of high school than the past as a result of nobody being trained to play with their back to the basket, at least relative to the way it used to be?

Chances it is back are <= 10%

The worst.

In 2023 we need to grab the two Arizonia schools and the four California schools and call it a day.  Of couse at that point we could just flip the SEC & BiG 10 the finger.   :bigtoke:
If we're gonna fantasize about swooping up 6 PAC schools, my vote would be:

UA
UCLA
USC
UW
UO
CU

The only reason for the Arizona and California schools is it will also have the benefit of turning the PAC 12 in G5 conference; after the leftover schools merge with the Mountain West conference.  Plus we would only need to travel to two states with the benefit of a large population for the media contract.  Texas and Oklahoma schools would love this arrangement.  Of course our media contract would be as valuable as the Big 10 or SEC contracts.

What are the chances some merger occurs and leaves us out with the Mountain West?

B. Kerkhoff was on The Program recently, he and Petro both seemed in agreement that being the first to 20, through a merger of Big XII and PAC 12, might be the smartest route. I remain skeptical that the payouts would be good enough for this to happen though. They also surmised that TCU and Baylor could not be part of this merger, as the PAC is not interested in these cult schools.

It is not all that surprising that the two main KS universities have older people running the show, it's pretty common across higher ed. Although, this comment has me concerned a bit about our dear old AD:

“That's one of the beautiful things about K-State is our fans are extremely supportive of our program,” Taylor said. “Pound-for-pound in terms of our number of alumni and the areas in which we pull from of our fan base, I would say our fans give — I've never done a study — but I would say our fans support us a great deal ... and equally as well as anybody in the country.”

Hey Gene, you're the AD, maybe spend some time doing that study that you've never done? Concerning to me is not age, but the regurgitation of talking points that aren't evidence based from university leadership.

Been awhile since I've lived in KS, but I think many more families are price conscious now. Given the lack of state support for higher ed in KS, KU and KSU look a lot more unreasonable to the average Kansan, especially when you consider the community college options. How is enrollment at community college's in the state?

All of this is to say, KSU was probably in for a decline. I'd view this more as a trend in higher ed in general, than something KSU specific. Even some "prestigious" schools are struggling with enrollment right now. FWIW, I work in a state higher ed system that is well supported, relative to most states in the country, where full time (12 or more credit hours) in-state tuition per semester is $3,335. We can keep this so low as a result of support from the statehouse. I'd lay the blame, in the KS case, with the statehouse more than internal KSU factors.

Honestly, I’m glad there is no realistic path to getting Pitino, because I’d want to so badly even though I’m like 75% sure he knew about all that stuff.

Ha, exactly. Me too.

You read that sympathetic piece thinking maybe Rick is right, maybe he didn't know, then 7 seconds pass and you're reminded that this is merely the delusion he is trying to craft in order to get a job again. I would participate in that delusion though, totally.

70
what the hell is he still doing at WSU?

Nah, it's because he's unmanageable and the jobs he wants don't want him. He's absolutely put himself out there.

I'm fairly certain those guys can meet their needs with or without Greg Marshall.

71
I want us to create more fast break chances too,  ur we were atrocious in transition. We had fast breaks end in zero points a lot.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I second this, but at least against UMBC our transition D was good, they didn't get much in the fast break either.

72
Good timing to offer Greg Marshall.  He might be grumpy after taking phone calls from disappointed Koch people tonight.

Definitely worth the offer, although it appears Danny Hurley got a nice offer from U of Pitt yesterday, so maybe Marshall is not in the running. Are Marshall's kids school age? That has to be the only thing keeping him from taking another job? If not, what the hell is he still doing at WSU?

Kamau is thinking too much offensively. You can see his hesitation. He wasn't always this way. He belongs on this team, I'm kind of surprised how quickly people have reacted against him. That being said, he is playing awful basketball right now.

As far as the game, we didn't make 3s, probably why we didn't win handily. You could argue that not getting to the rim and scoring prevented us from getting decent looks from 3, but I felt like we were getting looks from deep, just not making them. I think the pace of play was largely due to limited scouting time, as people have noted, plus both teams are fairly slow pace of play anyways.

Kentucky has athletes and are probably playing their best ball of the season. They'll have significant time to prepare for us. We desperately need Deanwolf to be the best player on the floor Thursday in Atlanta. Will Mawien guard Knox? Or Dean?

several players are getting bruced this year, if i'm kam, i'm pulling my head out of my ass before i'm on the list

Who do you expect to get bruced?

74
any one get the shot of him hugging oscar?

We get the a team announcers but the production truck completely crap the bed, didn't even show a replay. It's not like they didn't spend the entire damn night talking about this. Then they damn near missed the second hug too. Of course oscar talking about this in his post game press conference was major lol.

Yes indeed. I guess we don't get elite producers when on the Turner side of the broadcast? But really, not getting that replay of the first hug was a huge fail.
