Kansas State Football / The SEC has this figured out
« on: November 18, 2012, 12:27:59 PM »
Listen to the pundits and the SEC is clearly the best conference in America.  Yet the bottom 6 teams in the SEC have a TOTAL of 6 conference wins...almost half of the conference has an average of ONE win.  Yet they are considered the strongest because the top of the conference is so highly ranked ([partly because they're records are padded by playing the puds in the bottom of their conference).  The top 9 teams in the Big 12 have TWO loses out of conference....TWO.  Everyone clamors to add Florida State or Clemson or ND...the reality is that we would be much better off to add 4 "Schools of the Blind" to the conference and play only 8 conference games.  Much like the SEC, we'd routinely have 4-6 top ranked teams each year giving us a much better chance at landing multiple schools in the new "playoff"...which is clearly the holy grail.  Unlike basketball where you want to play the best to prepare your team for the tourney, the goal in football is simply to land 2 teams in the playoff ($$$$$$)....after that who really cares?  I love the round robin, but it's not conducive to landing multiple teams in the new playoff.  It's just too demanding week in and week out.

How many teams would go undefeated playing ND's schedule this year?  10?  More?  The win at OU was the most surprising but after the way OU played tonight at WV, maybe not all that difficult.

Out played. Out coached. Physically beaten and battered. Embarrassed.

I knew losing was possible, but the way this happened is shocking.
I just can't figure out what the eff happened.  I assumed our defense would struggle, but we made their defense look all world.  the worst defense in football. I was prepared for texas to beat us but I thought we'd destroy baylor.  I'm just in shock.  :blank:

ditto.  can't believe their d manhandled us.  really incredible and shocking

Wait until Notre Lame stomps em next week then you're gonna hear just how good USC really is...how good you may ask...well good enough that  Notre Lame beating them may vault Notre Lame past us into the NC game against Oregon

What world do you live in?

Sorry, I was only wishing the team luck today and hoping the powers that be doesn't shaft KSU if they go undefeated and a couple of other teams do as well.

Oh, I apologize.  Thank you, good sir, for the pleasantries.  Appreciate your well wishes.

Hoping KSU makes it to the BCS Championship, I am from SEC country and I have really enjoyed following your team the last 2 seasons. LHC Bill Snyder has to be one of the best coaches in America. I hope once he retires, the foundation he has left is strong enough to always be among the top.

the eff?

Funkytown in Raytown, MO

_Fan I have an observation that I would like you to confirm is right or wrong, I am not all techie so I have no links.  On some of our QB read option plays last weekend it appeared the guard let the DT go by untouched so he could go block the LB.  I believe we do this every time for this particular play and Klien is supposed to do read the DT's angle of attack and decide whether to hand off or keep.  The TCU players seemed to just blast through and make the tackle where most DT's before would break down trying to figure out who had the ball causing them to be on their heels and us to run by them.  I ask this because I had some KSU fans telling me it was just because our OL was sucking.

Also, if I am correct with the above observation are you worried that Baylor and Texas now have the new "mold" for beating our run game?
I think he covered that in his fan_analysis a few days ago and if Texas and Baylor try it we'll be ready to make em pay

Sorry missed that.  Went back and read it and it appears I am right... I should have known I was right  :emawkid:

The best example is when Hubert got blown up on the goal line the 2nd play after their muffed punt. I'm sure most of our fans thought Whitehair was some sort of idiot for "not blocking" the defensive tackle, but in reality he was the read guy and TCU had some sort of run stunt with that DT coming if he was unblocked for the read.

However, the play that ticked me off was the first down play before that one. Hubert also got blown up in the backfield here, but that was only because Whitehair (left guard) got absolutely abused. If he just maintains his block on the line of scrimmage instead of getting blown up into the backfield, Wilson is able to get off on his block to the inside LB and Hubert walks into the endzone. We had position to block everyone for an easy score there, but Whitehair was terrible.

When i went back and rewatched the game I was disturbed by our o line play.  You pointed out Whitehair but Rooks was absolutely awful on a handful of passing plays where he was soundly beaten on outside rushes and spin moves.  I'm hoping we just had a bad day at the office.

As you mentioned I would expect Bennett to blitz and gamble quite often...it would be nice if we could execute a screen pass or the shovel pass....I've also missed the jailbreak screen we used to employ...all can be very effective against pressure.  I hope we bring it this week. :crossfingers:

Man, you can never check well enough for luking this season.

It was my fault for posting the link in the "media hates us thread" which has now turned into "media begrudgingly accepts our world dominance" thread.

only WVU's defense has been ANYTHING compared to what Baylor will roll out on Saturday.

I think it mght take a bit longer to wear it down but Finney, Rooks, Lucas, Whitehair will push their Dline enough to let our running game have more success than we've had vs....

TTech...tied for 2nd in Big XII before we trucked their ass
OState...2nd in Big XII before we trucked their ass in 3 quarters of play
TCU...yawned our way to a road win vs. the 3rd best defense in the league. OU and KSU being ahead.

and remember,

WE'RE EVERYBODY'S FRANKING SUPER BOWL..

Baylor will have to find a way to get off the field on 3rd down..and they haven't been able to against ANYONE, even their OOC crapheap.

and btw...we lead the Big XII in 3rd down conversion percentage...even with the Osstate and TCU games being a little slower in effeciency.

We GOT THIS. Baylor is another high octane 5-wide chuck n' duck offense that doesn't care about ball control and tackling. Bad mix when you're facing KSU. I'm just hoping for no injuries so the team can lick their wounds over thanksgiving break.

Rooks was awful vs tcu....awful.

Everyone thinks they're the first person to come up with the "play terrible bcs teams" scheduling philosophy.

Guess what. Everyone wants to play Indiana and Wake and Cal for their ooc.

From a computer standpoint you are way better off playing a good MAC or WAC team or other mid major than a poor major conf team.

Zimm had surgery today.

Rules out high ankle sprain, yes?

No.  Suregery is often done on severe high ankle sprains...when it's that serious it's usually a 6 month rehab.  If he really did have surgery that's not good.

keep hearing randoms around the office say Zimm is a high ankle sprain.  I'm convinced they got this wrong and they're talking about Lockett though.

No...lockett's ankle was rolled on...this is not a high ankle sprain.  Zimm's looked like a high ankle sprain, his toe got hooked in the turf and it twisted OUTWARD...unfortunately a high ankle sprain can be just as bad, and in some cases worse, than a broken bone.

The ND love shouldn't surprise anyone...were they one, last second, pushed 33 yard field goal away from losing to a 4-6 team that lost to Youngstown State?  Yes.  Is that important to the ND lovers?  Not a bit.  And that's what makes this so rough ridin' sweet.  Not a damn thing all their bitching and complaining is going to do about the fact that they are on the outside looking in.  Their tears taste delicious.  Feels good.

the arguement that they almost lost isn't a good one.  although i do agree on the delicious tears.

Of course it is.  Bama found a way to come back and win against LSU...props to them, the "almost loss" argument isn't a good one in this case...(regardless of whether it was LSU or Savannah State...Bama WON the game).  In the case of Pitt-ND, ND did NOTHING on that last fg attempt to WIN the game.  They didn't block it.  The miss wasn't caused by pressure.  The kid simply missed a chip shot.  ND didn't find a way to win, Pitt lost.  Big distinction in my book.

Okay so don't kill the messenger, but have heard from some football players (will not reveal names) that Zimmerman has a broken fibula, and will not play against Baylor, doubtful for Texas, but might be alright for the bowl game. Have heard Sexton broke collarbone, but Lockett is expected to be okay.

I believe this to be true.  Thanks for sharing Joe
