The watch party in Zadar for the Denmark game was pretty damn amazing. Guess I picked the right World Cup travel destination this year.

Ja sam Harvatskan!!

Copper Bowl you bastard i can't believe you hid those amazing scotland photos in this thread

 Figured the mods would have done the cross-posting to the Vision Quest thread for me...  What am I actually getting in return for this monthly fee?

For the sake of Christmas, I implore you cynical bastards to SUSPEND YOUR DISBELIEFS and enjoy a pretty decent, if overly long sci fi movie.

And arcing cannonballs are cool AF.  :Woohoo:

I think I'm finally ready to try to improve my speed, rather than just run a million billion miles. Anyone have any good links/plans to improve speed? Will probably run another marathon in January 2019.

Run more

"K-State" is a register trademark of Kansas State University.

"KSU" is a registered of Kent State University. Kansas State is allowed to use "KSU" because they can prove use of the mark prior to the trademark registration.

Mods, please bury this.

Gearing up for first marathon this fall. Sticking to the Higdon Novice 1 plan. In reality I'm probably a bit more advanced than that, but the last 10 weeks of Novice 2 just looks like too much wear and tear on my body. I hurt myself trying to ratchet up too fast last year and had to scrub the training.

The running is definitely helping me with my super weightloss challenge. I've dropped from 206 to 193 in 16 days. Goal is to hit 185 by Day 30. In addition to the Higdon runs, which I do early in the morning, I'm also running 20 minutes on the treadmill at a rolling incline most evenings. Gets a nice burn going right before bed.

Good luck - I think both of those plans are lousy - one 20 mile run isn't sufficient.  And it comprises 50% of your weekly mileage

That said, they will get to the start line, allow you to experience the dreaded wall like every marathoner should, and hopefully get you to a place to suffer through the last 4-8 miles.

Did a 4 mile trail race last month. 5200 vert. Love me some mountains!

5200 feet in 4 miles?  That's steep.  I would definitely be power hiking not running that.

Yeah, assuming that's both up and down, otherwise we're talking about a 25% grade. But still a bunch of ascent for that distance.

Yes, This Is the Place!  Nice work this week.  Where do you run to get the vert?

Two runs (one with 3,200 (10 miles), one with 2K (6.5 miles)) were in Frozen Head SP in the Cumberland Mtns of TN. The other was a race in South Knoxville.

Take it you're out west?

Oh, and by "runs" I mean slog fests at really slow paces, scrambling over and limboing under downed trees, 100% humidity - more walking than running.

4 runs, 41 miles, 7400 ft vert all on trails this week

I'm ready for this beast, I think

Is this where we check in our vertical gain for the week? 6 runs, 40 miles, 6,700 feet of gain, mostly from just 3 of those runs.

That race looks hella fun - and painful.

Commence FB vomit.

Scotland Day 1 Update
Facial hair status: peach fuzz
Most Scottish thing I ate/did: Toured Glengoyne Distillery. I mean, it was just half a mile off trail.

Or, ate a scone on top of a Scottish Hill (see photo)

Miles: 22 (was supposed to be 19, so some of Will's "bonus" miles?)

Damon, had those pints on your behalf.
MB, I mean I HAD to sample those wee drams during the tour, right?

Currently cozying up on the banks of Loch Lomond, enjoying some lasagna. Day 2 should be even a bit tougher, so the plan is for an early night.

Scotland Update, Day 2
Facial hair status: fine sandpaper
Most Scottish thing I did/ate: Maybe it was the macaroon bar in the mist along Loch Lomond, or challenging a feral goat to a dual.

23 miles of technical hiking, occasional trail running. The clouds lifted in the early afternoon to reveal some unbelievable views of the loch and the highlands looming above.

Scotland Day 3 update-ish
Facial hair status: coarse sandpaper
Most Scottish thing said/done. Easy, anointing myself with the waters of St. Fillan's holy pool. (Claims to cure insanity. We'll see. )

Not as much in the photo department because so much time was spent dodging muddy pools.

But landed in a gift from heaven, perhaps literally. Currently writing this from a cafe in an old church. Best wifi and americano found so far.

12 miles in, 11 to go. Legs feel the accumulated fatigue, but otherwise fine. Staying at an inn 3 miles from anywhere tonight.

Also, baby lambs (I know that's kind of redundant) are really, really cute.

Legs, feet, and toes in good shape. Heart in even better shape.

Scotland Update, Day 4

Let's break from tradition so I can just set everyone's mind at ease. Yes, I survived being charged by angry Scottish cows.

You see, cows act like prey until they think they, or especially their calves are actually to be prey. So when I clapped my hands to "scoot them along" it seemed to work, that is until a calf suddenly bolted. Then 2 mean momma cows and two mean steer with big horns stopped accepting my dominance and full on charged. As I turned to run (wondering if I could actually out run a cow) I tripped, and fell into the drainage ditch beside the path.

That's not water in that ditch. Yes I smelled like manure for the rest of the day.

4 angry eyes and two snouts were within inches. Thankfully they must have thought I smelled too bad to take any additional risk.

Anywhoo, that was yesterday. Today was glorious. Kind of lamenting that tomorrow is my last day.

And yes, I was audience to a free air show at the end of my day. Nice.

(Birthday)

What a way to celebrate. 16 more miles in the Scottish Highlands. Mother Nature cooperated by allowing his Majesty, Ben Nevis, to show his face. I'll post one final recap, maybe, but it's time to find some coffee. Cheers!

@tdaver that is one impressive time.

And I'm doing the West Highland Way, in Scotland. 105 miles in 5 days. Pubs every 10ish miles. Outlandish views. Such as:

Anyone been to Louisville? Have always heard good things, will probably only be there for a day.
For a one day trip, I recommend Churchill Downs Musuem and Slugger Museum. Booze in the Urban Bourbon tour. Good food near 4th Street Live (our P&L) as well as Baxter Avenue and Frankfort Ave. All have good beer choices. Wacky enjoyed drinking in the old church on Baxter.

Ali museum trumps Churchill Downs, unless you're a degenerate gambler.

Was there. Not gonna lie, felt an evil presence in the stands that night.

I ran a marathon a little while ago. Didn't go as fast as I would have liked, but I knew I wouldn't meet my goal time if it was hot outside. It was low 70s and full sun on race day, which was no bueno. May post a full Peggy Po/Nancy Neg breakdown at some point if I have time.

Will probably focus on speeding up my 10k time and settle in for a lot of 10Ks and a few half marathons. Don't really have the time or husband/dad capital to run another marathon for a while (maybe ever).

I'd eventually like to tri (get it???) an Olympic-distance triathlon. Any Cat fans out there who have completed triathlons before?

Triathlons are hella fun - the problem for me was two-fold:

Not a great swimmer
Long bike rides and lower back no bueno  :dubious:

Also, hard to feel like you're really good at any of the three disciplines.

But they are hella fun  :driving:
