Probably that one year they were kinda good.

2007
KU 46,784
KSU 47,383

Was this actually proposed by a professional design firm or just some rival fan trolling?

looks fine to me. Have the electrochromic glass so that you can instantly darken the room and have a projector screen come down in front of the glass for presentations. The screen lowering in front of a window isn't ideal but thats the trade off for a view of the stadium.

I hope KU paid no more than $5k to the Intern that ripped off TCU's stadium or HSK Dallas reusing its previous project. I even tried to paste near carbon copy images from google. (Look it up, you can find near identical vantage points from available media)

It appears like a pseudo Ryan field update/ Wrigley field update south of Addison that people lambast about that doesn't fit the neighborhood.

Looks like a major missed opportunity.

Its closer to SDSU in terms of the spikes, stadium layout (no big press box), decision not to "wrap" the stadium to cover the stands more extensively etc etc.

That said, I agree missed opportunity.

There is absolutely no way the final product ends up looking like that. The stadium's final capacity is currently set at 41,000.

The rendering looks like it holds double that.

Also, where's the limestone???

TCU's stadium holds 47k but I think it looks like it holds more... when you add a bunch of levels and stands to a stadium it makes it look more busy and large without growing the capacity. The old bowls (like what KU currently has) is the most efficient way to fit a bunch of people. That's part of the reason the biggest stadiums are essentially one or two large stands, not a stadium with 3-4 stacked stands.

5
Limestone is a material, not a design. Plenty of K-Staters get too excited about limestone so I get them leaking that but just saying there is a lot of limestone means nothing.

So is KU going with brick or limestone nowadays?

Did I say limestone was a design? I thought I followed that up with a design. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

lol fair. I think we will see many people talk about it like it is.

I must be beyond the age threshold to care about this. Which makes sense because I'm incredibly old.

A lot of the best fan gear isn't made by the major manufacturers. Homefield, Charlie Hustle, others are pushing more of the apparel that fans are snapping up.

Personally I lean more towards Nike, but I won't care that much if we go to UA. Back when our only options for gear would be Nike/UA or the K-State Super Store it would've been a bigger deal.

With Nike signing the deal with Fanatics to produce most of their fan gear I care even less.

The have a tarp on their stadium now, a la Baylor.

Those are shitty seats, and demolition starts in December. Renderings apparently are being released tomorrow.

KU twitter all horned up for today.

Its pretty easy to get people fired up for just about any rendering because 1. people want to buy in and believe what you are presenting is a big improvement 2. You control the camera, lighting, angles, etc. and aren't completely bound by budget and reality yet so you can make the design as nice as possible (or nicer).

So when they release their renderings today what I'll be looking for to see if it is actually good, or just lens flares and photoshopped crowds over a meh design is:

1. Does it bring new and better basic fan amenities (fix the broken things like non-working toilets, bring new experiences at all price points)
2. Is it something unique to KU or does it look like a rando stadium that could be located anywhere?

The last time they released renderings, the chopped up stadium looked like it could be for any program. Yeah, they had red and blue smoke in a rendering but in real life it would've worked just as well for South Dakota State as KU. You shouldn't need to plaster the colors or logo on the stadium to be able to tell who it is for. EX: the limestone collegiate gothic on the west side of our stadium doesn't work anywhere else like it does for K-State. The last round of their renders didn't tie back to their history or classic bowl design, the campus architecture, that hill they love, or anything that makes a game at KU unique. Will it be more of the same? Guess we will find out today!

UA seems to have done well with Utah and Texas Tech throwbacks in basketball. We already have a good template for those but hopefully they can continue that trajectory. I think they would do a nice primary (non-throwback) set well too.

I am sure they can execute our extremely basic football jerseys, not very worried there. Notre Dame, Navy Utah, and CSU have all had good basic and alts under UA.

Hoping the K-State soccer beer from Manhattan Brewing Co will be paired with a few more W's this year!

Ah yes, the Netflix defense.

I'm interested to see what they have for us because we already do a ton of retro stuff

Yes, most of what I see looks like common stuff I have, ‘47 I think.

That’s a good grift.

Wasn't '47, just something sold on the rack at dillard's in wichita. The white one worn at og pak was from the place in aggieville where all the kaws places are now.

Ballard's?

The "sailor caps" are actually stylistic representations of frosh caps fwiw. Its a common "collegiate" motif. Same thing for sweaters with the college's initials on it.

There was one guy that had a distinct style and was fairly prolific in terms of drawing similar animal heads + sailor cap but he was far from the only one. If you're running Small Pennant Company, LTD selling your product to colleges across the country you are going to use the same graphic as much as possible to save on costs. It wasn't like schools had an official logo to identify/ differentiate themselves either.

So now when schools go looking for vintage logos they come across the same neat logo from Small Pennant Company.

My guess is a white helmet with some kind of decal. Old flag Willie? Silver Powercat? Big Red One logo (maybe with state outline??) overly caffeinated willie?

If it was full jerseys I think we would have heard more about it and the swag team wouldn't be this involved with the reveal.

I think Nebraska should focus on fired/disgraced coaches who are looking for that one last chance to prove they have it.
Art Briles

That is the most perfect recommendation ever.  If he could hold up Lawrence Phillips as the ideal Husker for all to model after.

I really wouldn't put any disgraced coach beneath them.  Urban, Gruden, or Briles would not surprise me.

A lot of them seem to really want Urban.

It is easy to be frustrated with the "just happy to be here" KSU folks but then I look over to Ames and see them aw shucks-ing over a 7-6 record in what was supposed to be their greatest season ever...

Don't listen to them Tom, FCS matters too particularly our leathernecks.

Its good to keep an eye on the comings and goings of the old conference!

If both schools stay until the GOR is up, the remaining 8 will only get $10,000,000 each. That's not much toward that cost of Bramlage, it's going to likely be high 8 figures, if not $100 million plus. They should take that money, and put it in an endowment for athletics only. $10 million would yield half a million dollars in interest annually.

The idea of pouring of 100 million into Bramlage is very  :bang:

Virginia Tech recently did a renovation of their arena that was only the seating bowl that cost $90 million. The Bramlage renovation will be interior and exterior.

I mean the fact that we're already going to do extensive renovations and for the last decade+ have been making improvements is a very good thing. There are arenas in the conference that are older and not any better than Bramlage that haven't and won't be touched. Hilton isn't any better than Bramlage, just bigger. Nether is Lloyd Noble. We could leave Bramlage untouched and it would still be just fine in the realm of college basketball arenas. It's cool that were going to have an NBA style arena.

Bramlage is not going to be mistaken for any NBA arena unless you're talking about NBA arenas from decades ago.

FWIW the proposed Bramlage rennos were supposed to be less than 100 mil although with todays pricing I could see it rising to that level. Comparing Bramlage to Hilton or Lloyd Noble (which OU is looking at replacing) is a bar I would hope we would aim higher than.

OU hiring former Baylor/ Briles coordinator in Jeff Lebby. Wish I could say I was surprised...

I know there are other threads for stupid unrealistic facilities dreams, but I have always thought that revaming Ahearn to hold 8K or so would be fun, and make over half of it student seating...completely encircle the floor with first level student section and make a small upper deck almost all luxury seating and club for alumni who cough up cash.

Edgy people on this blog trash this Ahearn pipe dream but I have it too. Yes Ahearn sucks. Yes it's hot garbage and would be exorbitantly expensive to revamp. But arenas with history are cool too every once in a while for a small handful of non-con games a year, 'specially for those of us townie qat fans who are of the age where we just barely missed seeing a game in legendary 'hearn but grew up with everyone we know telling us how incredible it was. We all want luxury suites and jumbotrons long-term, but eff it...if we're playing Southern Utah, I'd stomach ancient and decrepit facilities to be able to enjoy a little history I missed out on. Especially if we use the old 1960s-era scoreboard where the game clock appeared to be an actual clock. You got a problem with my Ahearn pipe dream? Meet me up on the weird rafter/catwalk/press area (???) thing and we can settle this the way Dick Knostman and Lew Hitch would've.

Northwestern renovated their arena, Welsh-Ryan for $110 million. It was built in 1952 with a capacity of 9,500 and now holds 7,039 (Ahearn opened in 1950 with 14,000 and closed in '88 around 12k to give you a size comparison). Bramlage renovations are projected  at $85 million and will reduce capacity to introduce more luxury seating and a mid level concourse.

I mention Welsh Ryan because the interior might look familiar:

I am sure someone can photoshop a powercat onto the court.

DAMN! Someone else found the money, this dude didn't even have a losing record. One losing season out of the last 6 and that was exactly 1 game below .500

https://twitter.com/MarquetteMBB/status/1372965565871063048

He also never won his conference or made it past the round of 64 at the NCAAT. Most years they were around 6-9th in the Big East.

Very convenient they didn't have to photoshop a new color or logo onto his tie for the announcement. Saving some :th_twocents:!
