If Lon can be out-coached by oscar twice in one season, he can be out-couched by anyone.

Having the 4th and 5th best schools in Fl in the conf won't help us get better KS walk-ons.

Trade WV for Louisville. Pick up Memphis and Cincy as well?

Jerome Tang Coaches Kansas State Basketball / Re: Hey Will Spradling
« on: March 22, 2014, 06:45:48 AM »
In the end, Sprads was a guy who played a ton of minutes for 2 different average basketball coaches. If he'd gone to a school with better coaches and athletes then he probably would have averaged less than 10 minutes per game. If he'd gone to a school with worse coaches/players, then he'd have played just as much but he'd be someone else's problem.

Will Spradling's career mimicked the K-state program while he was here:Kinda successful-ish at times despite failing the eyeball test.

THIS
I just want to win a god damn tournament game. If oscar can't do it, he needs to get the eff out.

This team over-achieved at times this year. One would think that the TOs and long stretches of scoreless offense would improve with another year of maturity. However, oscar's offense will continue to look terrible when we play against teams with better athletes and teams who emphasize defense.

I don't think oscar is a terrible coach. I just don't see anyone winning any basketball league that I care about by running the game that he's preaching.

I think it's kinda fitting that this kind of game came against Iowa State because we are becoming ISU. From 2013 onward, we're going to be the type of team that "can beat anyone at home" but drops too many on the road. Perhaps that's all we've ever been, but it just feels a lot worse now.

I love the "it takes time to put in a new offense" talking-point that Fran was trying to feed us on TV last night. Remember when Brad Underwood  put in a new offense over a 9 day xmas holiday.

I feel that every game we play the rest of the season (except KU and maybe Baylor) is going to be undecided going into the 4Q, so they'll all be edge of your seat, nervous games for me. I'd say the ones i'm most scared of are WVU and UT. WVU gets the slight nod because they actually have a good QB.

I bet he doesn't have a single dark hair on the balls of his. Just old grey balls.

Not because of the game as much as the injuries.

Plus, WVU and TX look much better than I thought they would. The BIG XII in general might be the deepest its ever been. 1-9 are very strong.

I think WVU looks just as expected, but they haven't played anyone at all yet. The biggest worry about them is how easy their schedule is this year. All of the ranked Big 12 teams go to Morgantown this year with the exception of UT. I think UT does look better than I expected though. All that being said, I still think we end up 10-2 or 9-3.

I don't mind the QB numbers at all. The 145 yards rushing with 2 TDs is kinda worrisome though.

Kansas State Football / OU Game Time
« on: September 09, 2012, 05:37:27 PM »
I know there's nothing official yet, but we're all pretty sure that the K-State/OU game is gonna be on FOX. So that means it will be a 7 PM game most likely, correct? When will they officially announce the network and time of that game? TIA

The secondary gets a pass from me on coverage...not on their shitty tackling. I feel like the entire scheme of the defense is the keep the play in front of you, that's why we let teams abuse us over the middle and in the first 20 yards on outside. Seems like a terrible rough ridin' plan to me, but wtf do I know.

I heard that LHCBS talked about the shitty defense in postgame presser. Probably should have thought about the shitty defense 8 months ago when he hired Retread McGee.

There is nothing to see here until they sort out the "playoffs."

If the SEC gets their "best 4 teams" model then FSU and Clemson may want to join our conference to make some extra money. Or they may not. Probably not.

But if the big 10 and Pac12 get their "conference champions" model, then FSU, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, and everybody else will all be begging to get into the Big XII.

We'll probably want to go to 12 and have a championship game.  14 is a pain in the ass.

Ira's right, that nailing down the championship structure is the next hurdle.

But, Clemson and FSU are coming, regardless, IMO.

Well, I think Florida State is, eventually.  I think Clemson really wants to come.

I think the Big 12 wants Notre Dame and Florida State so we can stop at twelve.

What's going on with the SEC right now in terms of how they're dealing with 14 teams is pretty illuminating.  They pretty much all hate it, except for MU and A&M, which is to be expected.  And they're open about hating it.  LSU is making a big stink about having to play Florida every year, and they make a good point about inequity.  Why should they get the strongest program in the East (long-term) as an annual rival?  Why does Bama get to beat up on Tennessee?  Why does Arkansas get to beat up on Missouri?  Assuming A&M gets better, who's to say So. Carolina will be any good after Spurrier leaves?  The in-fighting that goes into those decisions drives a wedge in the conference.  Considering where we've just come from, does the Big 12 want to jump right into that mess?

Bowlsby is a sharp guy.  He knows how twelve is ideal for numerous reasons.  If Dodds really feels like he can deliver ND in 2016, and Bowlsby can spend the next few years working on Swarbick (who is a friend of his) we'll sit on our hands until then.  IMO, that was the real intent behind his "fraternity" remark and the reason why everyone hammered home the, "We're happy at ten," stuff.  I don't think it was lawsuit driven.  I think Neinas and Bowlsby have laid out what the future looks like and how those two open spots will look like golden Wonka tickets about five years from now, so everyone is content to wait.

If we let it play out for a few years, and let people see the financial impacts of the new system, we'll have people knocking on our door.  No one knows how much the TV contract is going to be, officially, yet.  No one knows how much money we'd get from a playoff cut.  No one knows how much the SEC/Big 12 bowl game will be worth.  If the LHN can take off, maybe a Notre Dame network can take off as well, which would make it even more likely they'll come here.

But it's going to take some time to work through all of this.  FSU just got some unexpected money from the ACC that will cover their shortfall, and the playoff doesn't go into effect until 2014, so there's no immediate need to do anything.  At this point, if I'm really being pragmatic about it, I think they just let this Big 12 stuff fester for another year, like A&M did, and then get serious next year.

And I said it earlier in the thread, and I'll say it again.  I can easily see a scenario where we add FSU and go to an eleven team configuration for a couple of years until ND can join.  If we really, really think we have a shot, we're going to wait it out.  There's no need to bring Clemson in now.  They aren't going anywhere.  If Notre Dame passes and signs another long term contract with NBC, then we can go out there and grab them then.

Pan, that all makes sense when you lay it out on the table like that. Assuming we add FSU sometime in the next 1-3 years and then wait on ND, isn't there a chance that ND is 5 years more mediocre by 2017? Seems to me that they're becoming less and less of a player in all this as time goes on because they're so plain. Am I missing the boat on all this?

Twitrumors of Louisville in place of GT as #14.

That would be a terrible trade.

Well, they can't really fire him now. They'd owe him almost 9 million bucks. Might as well support him.

I don't know Self's record with big men, I do know Danny's.  Not saying Ellis won't be good, just saying losing Danny will have an impact on his play.  Hell, the new guy might be better, I don't know.

Only you would fall for the Manning-bigman garbage. :jerk:

It's not garbage, stunts.  Manning was a big draw for big men recruits, and his experience in the NBA and knowledge of the game definitely translated to his coaching ability.  KU's big men have improved every single year they've been in the program.  Look at their progression as opposed to a player like Jamar Samuels, who didn't really improve at all after his sophomore season.  Manning's impact might have been slightly over-hyped, but to pretend like he didn't have any sort of impact on the development of KU's big men is absurd.

I hate when Beems is right.

The run and gun stuff is only ever really successful if you have dominant players...which we don't/won't. Therefore, I'd love some sort of gimmick* offense (Princeton, Pitch-Post, Triple-Post) but maybe have a decent shooter or two as well.

*By "gimmick" offense, I mean that everyone knows that we're a triangle team even though we only run like 30% of our sets as triangle and the rest of the time we're doing something more traditional.

I would take Boyle as well. Has BCS experience and hasn't been total crap. Both of those are improvements over Jankovich.
