Essentially Flyertalk / Re: How Many Credit Cards Do You Have?
« on: December 15, 2017, 11:08:01 AM »
I need a new cc. I am about to cancel the CSR in Jan after I double dip the $300 freebie (assuming they still allow it). I think the Chase Ink Preferred business card looks decent with 80k pts for $95. Plus I could transfer my UR pts. I don’t really like the delta/United points and the SW CC bonus looks low right now. Any thoughts on how hard it is to get the CIP biz card? Should I get a diff card?

Flying to Edinburgh, Waldorf Caledonian, Virgin train to London, London Edition, flying home from London. Seems like I would be doing more things for 3/4 of a million points/miles. BUT NOPE.

Did that trip but in reverse a year ago. Even stayed at that Waldorf Hotel, complimentary of course. Excellent location and the Hotel has history like everything does over there but the hotel itself is a little underwhelming.  There are some excellent pubs northeast of the Hotel within walking distance. Edinburgh is a gem of Scotland.

Yeah, the location and the fact that I had over a billion hilton points to burn were the reason we're staying there. The Glasshouse on Marriott points looks more interesting (if we're just talking hotels on points) but I'm using those in London at The Edition and the location of the Waldorf is better. Any Edinburg pro-tips feel free to PM or post.

Edinburgh Castle is nice and easily walkable from the Waldorf. Pro tip is buy your tickets online. Did this while standing in line and bypassed about 300 people in line. The bar / shopping strip is pretty nice with a lot of options. I’d recommend a day tour. We did one that took us along the ocean culminating in the city that has St. Andrews Golf Course.  If you can go on Sunday you can roam the course for free.  Getting a tee time takes many months. Hit up any of the scotch distilleries you can. Glenlivet is amazing. The drive to get there is pretty intense. The drive home is even more so :driving:

We stayed at Marriott hotel county hall in London.  Location is really good but there’s a ton of options in London. London is pretty amazing.

Busted torsion spring on garage door yesterday.  Called a company I found on Angie's List/BBB.  He showed up the same morning and was done in like twenty minutes.  Works like a dream.  Pewpewpew -- handyman-ed!

I don't think calling a handyman counts as handymanning.  That's more like stevedaving.
Def stevedaving
Fuuuuuuuck working on those torsion springs, worst DIY thing I attempted.  Everything was fixed at the end, but I legitimately could have die multiple times because I was a dumbass.

Tried fixing my garages tension spring once. Almost died. The ratchet flew out of my hand with such force that I couldn't feel my hand for 15 minutes. Lucky the ratchet flew away from my head and not towards it. Would have likely killed me. My dad was hiding behind a door as I did it. Guess he was smarter than me.

Never again will I try that crap.

is that weird guy who was a basketball manager and hated daniel sams and who martavious irving called michelin man? I think he's the worst but don't know if he would qualify as "kstate twitter community".

@SeanEFrye Martavious, called him the Michelin man? LOL

My least favorite K-State tweeter is easily @TheRealMikeT, eff that guy.

My fav is @hotdogskc. This handle is just so funny and on point.

Laird:

I've seen like 1 recruiting video now but that has to be the worse of them all. Best thing he does, I guess, is tie his shoe laces reasonably well. The effort on the sand slam was poor. And he did like 3 down and backs on the vb court.

I miss Wes Mantooth.  :frown: He really got me good early on. #PIKing

Me too WC. Me too, but I bet he's lurking...  :D

Wacky I had a "Hail to the Chief" Joe Montana poster on my closet door, a Neil Smith Jersey, a DT58 (RIP) jersey, a 19 Montana Jersey, a pull over starter jacket, shark tooth hat, the whole ensemble. I loved those Chiefs with all my heart.
 I have a joe montana jersey and two autographs from him. One of those was a specialized NFL playing card for his Monday night victory at denver in the final seconds. It was a gold card edition. My friend back in the day mailed it to him and he signed it and mailed it to me. It was his gift to me since I moved away from him and we were bff's growing up. It was nice of him, cause my buddy was a bronco fan.  :D

I did that too with the joe Montana autographs! I have two! I thought all NFLers were as studly as Joe so I tried it with Drew Bledsoe. That rough rider never sent it back and I've hated him ever since. He really ruined the patriots for me.

Wasn't oscar linked to the UCLA job last year? It's pretty obviously he's pulling a Mike Anderson here. I knew he didn't mean it when he said he hoped to retire here. Just so disappointing.

Jason King

@JasonKingBR: Ben Howland would be a good hire for Marquette. Wonder if they'll contact K-State coach/Milwaukee native oscar Weber. Has done gr8 job @ KSU

Sorry Chief.  Thanks for the info tho.

I have a beginner question that is probably answered 5x through the numerous pages, but I signed up for a Marriott CC, got the 70k bonus pts in the summer time period and promptly cancelled the card.  So I did the same thing in late November all over again and then in January they said they would not be giving me add'l 70k pts.  I asked them why and they said b/c I have already rec'd the bonus from a previous card transaction.  I did this for my wife twice w/ no issues. So I asked the guy how long I would have to wait to get the bonus pts again and he said 5 years.  Clearly that was not true b/c my wife had no issues.  Has anyone done this w/ Marriott?  How long do I need to wait to do this again?  I could just switch brands and I might just end up doing this.  Which one is the best as far as cc bonus pts?  I don't want to pay the annual fee for a cc and I don't like paying for hotels as I haven't in years.

There's no question Romero's a stud. The team just isn't very good. Ashia Woods is fun to watch.

And Romero is getting better every game. Woods has been a pleasant surprise and should get even better. We need to improve the inside game, as always.

"Make or break"? Just fire her and replace with cheapest option possible. WGAF.  Her salary (greater than bare minimum) should go to something that has value.

I guess given my avi, I should post in this thread but WGAF. Deb and her asstnt/wife Kammie or whatever used to have lover's quarrels in front of the whole team during practice. Fire her and replace with the MHS coach, whoever he/she is.

:dubious: good call because it's completely unheard of for a head coach and the lead assistant to have disagreements.  Are you going to tell us next that some players don't like each other. Oh the horror  :horrorsurprise:

It's tough to explain bec I don't know what the argument was really about but it was clearly not about basketball. The whole team looked at each other and it got super awkward.  Kammie had the look of "oh crap wish this laundry was being cleaned behind closed doors".  I'm sure all college coaches lose their minds at times but this left the realm of basketball. I don't know maybe this happens everywhere?  :curtiskelly:  When Frank threatens Spracnes family in a fiery death I'm sure he does it a non personal matter.   :nono:

Movies are childish?

In my opinion they are. But like I said I don't really like them at the movies. Would rather watch a movie at my house.

taping a 6 foot straight line is actually really hard

Don't get all engineer'ey on this.  You just pull the tape out, put one side down, pull it taught and lay it down slowly as straight looking as possible using surrounding lines and angles as reference.  If you don't notice the tape as not being straight with a little review once it is stuck down, you won't notice the caulk not being perfectly straight once it is installed.

This. And use the tub as a guide. It doesn't have to be perfectly straight. Just keep it relatively straight in relation to the tub.

Let's say you get some caulk on the tape.  When you remove the tape, doesn't it pull caulk from the areas where you want caulk?  Lke, surface tension, right?

Not if you don't wait awhile to remove it. I suppose if you looked closely you may seem some of that surface tension you speak of but I've never noticed it.

i don't like taping either, fan.  i find that no matter how nice the tape, you're going to get better results being careful with a careful, steady hand.

my bathtub, however, looks like it was caulked by a third grader (me)

A bathtub is about 6 ft long. You're telling me you can't tape 6 ft in a straight line? Maybe you should call a handyman.

did not say i can't tape 6 ft in a straight line

Its an easy way to get good results. Never had a problem with it. You should give it a try.

why don't you feel comfortable going to movies with grown men?

I think going to the movies is meh at best. I find myself getting bored quickly. But to go with co workers ranging from 35-50 seems weird. I'm an adult. Seems like I should do adult things like drink or something.
so you'd go grab drinks w/ them but won't go see a movie with them?

That's right.
