I think the goal is a semi pro 32 team league and a break away from the NCAA

Whose goal is this? There isn't a single college athletic director in this country willing to give up the NCAA tournament money. The NCAA literally distributes a billion dollars a year from that tournament. I promise you there isn't one single goddamn team willing to breakaway for a 32 team division that the rest of the NCAA would miss for that tournament.

When people talk about breaking away from the NCAA, I always assumed they mean football only. All the other sports would stay in their current conferences and in the NCAA.

Watching Kurtz’s videos about Big 12 realignment, and I already strongly regret the UCF and Cincy additions. We should have just added Hou/BYU to replace OU/UT. And then held pat until some more things shake out.

The Big Ten’s TV contracts expire in 2023. That means they’re going to be negotiating a new deal over the next year or so. I have to believe the topic of adding teams from either the ACC or Pac 12 is going to come up. If reports are to be believed, the ACC GOR will be too expensive to break, so the Pac 12 is the only realistic option for the Big Ten. I think the Bog Ten should add 7 teams from the Pac. That would give them a total of 21 teams… three divisions of 7 each. Play 6 games in your division plus two games against each of the other divisions. The three division winners plus one at-large make the Big Ten championship series. Who are the 7 teams? I imagine: USC, UCLA, Cal, Stan, Ore, Wash, and ASU.

Once that is done, the Big 12 would have the opportunity to pick from what is left. Utah and Col would make sense. If we can find a way to get rid of WVU, add Ariz in replacement. How does this 12-team league sound?

Hou, Tech, Bay, TCU
OSU, KSU, KU, ISU
BYU, Utah, Col, Ariz

They are absolutely leaving, and I'd wager a great deal on the PAC and big 10 taking zero of the Big 12 leftovers....UNLESS, somehow the big 10 or SEC takes prominent schools from the PAC, and the likelihood of that seems very, very low.

I don't know why the likelihood of USC/PSU/UM/tOSU/Clemson getting poached would be less likely than UT and OU getting poached

For clemson, it’s because the ACC grant of rights goes until the early 2030’s. If it is expensive for OU/UT to break our GoR, it’s way more expensive for anyone in the ACC to break theirs.

For Mich, tOSU and PSU, they already make more from the Big Ten than what the SEC gets. Plus they have their fair share of name power in that conference.

For USC, they are a LONG ways from anyone else in this conglomeration. Unless the SEC/big 10 is adding several west coast schools, I have a hard time picturing USC moving.

Surely they wouldn't put a new indoor facility on the west side, hiding the WSC from view?

In terms of the national picture, the Big 12 is sitting squarely in the creamy revenue middle, with their programs drawing less than the SEC or ACC, but more than the Pac-12 or Big Ten.

Source: College Football Talk

Is that good? Does it mean we're going to steal USC? Probably.  :dunno:

Whoever wrote this is a dummy. The ACC is dead last in distributions. Our conference is behind the big ten and sec, and ahead of the pac 12 and acc.

http://awfulannouncing.com/league-networks/comcast-drops-big-ten-network-in-many-out-of-market-areas.html

That's a mistake by Comcast unless they expect their competitors to quickly follow suit. Unlike the Pac 12 Network, the Big 10 Network is carried by all the big national television providers. As the article points out, there are Big 10 fans all over the country and they provide quality programming. If you're a Maryland fan in DC, or a Michigan fan in NYC, you have no choice but to drop Comcast.

Cable companies are monopolies in their market areas. Where I live, I either get Cox Communications or I don't get cable. I assume the similar is true for Comcast markets. If they want cable, Comcast is their only option.

Gonna be awesome playing that AAC schedule in 2026.
Dominating like always; but without money.

I'd rather go Mountain West, but that's just me.

There's no reason that the Big 12 wouldn't still exist. Cats plus BU, ISU, maybe TT and OSU. Then add Houston, BYU, Boise, CSU and some other midmajors. It wouldn't be a power conference by any stretch, but the point is that other schools would come calling to us, not the other way around.

I'll say it again just for [you], so we can all agree.  We need UCF & USF for our conference.  This would put us in the second largest recruiting state in the NCAA.  We would have teams in SEC, ACC, AAC, BIG 10 and of course Big XII Texas.  At that point in time we could publicize that we are truly the BIG XII.  This will not only improve recruiting, but help with our network contract in a few years.  Also would mostly guarantee our future, with a twelve team conference that may end up with the largest TV following in the country.

if anyone is worried about the Florida teams, I do believe they are both serious about their football programs.   Look at the investment they both have made in their programs.  They both have quality coaches, and have had very good coaches.  They are doing this with a network contract that is about a tenth of what the Big XII deliverers.

Hey OU... you know how your fans are complaining about how you never get any big name teams in Norman like you used to with Nubby and A&M? Have I got some news for you! We are adding UCF and USF to the league so you get to look forward to those practically blue blooded programs coming to town on a semi-regular basis!! Yay!

The best way to kill the Big 12 would be to add small regional programs, with little history and no fans, that have practically nothing in common with any of our current schools. I mean, what are the things in common between OU and UCF? They both play football... other than that...?

Sean is the same age Bill was when we hired him. What if we can recapture that lightning?

Bill had spent several years coaching at several places in California and Texas, then spent a decade as OC at Iowa prior to becoming HC at KSU. Sean has spent about 20 years as director of football operations at KSU, and the last six years or so as special teams coordinator. In order to recapture his dad's lightning, Sean would need to gain a ton of experience overnight without actually doing the kinds of things required to gain that experience.

I think it is inevitable that re-entry will stop at some point in the near future. People going in and out of a stadium represent a security risk. Somehow it hasn't happened yet, but at some point there is going to be an incident at a stadium that prompts all leagues and schools to end the practice. It's hard enough to quickly but effectively screen 50,000-100,000 people once... having to do so multiple times is asking too much.

As for me, I never leave. I get to go to maybe six or seven games per year. I can hang out with family or friends virtually any other day. If I'm going to spend thousands on donations and tickets, it's not going to be so that I can watch part of a game. I love tailgating before the games, and we often times sit around and knock back a couple more afterwards while waiting for the lots to clear, but during? I just don't see the appeal. To each their own, but that's just not for me.

The line dropped to +3.5 earlier this week and moved back to +6 after UT announced the true freshman would start.

That's Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!), imho

Or... the line moved back as word started to leak that Ertz would be limited.

6 losses? Ain't happenin'

it 100% could happen if we don't win on Saturday.

Agreed. If we can't beat Vandy or Texas, no way are we beating the good teams on our schedule. OU, OSU, TCU, TT... these all look like losses to me.

With Ertz playing limited snaps, our offense is a complete disaster. The defense starts strong but is constantly put on the field in bad situations, and starts to wear down in the second half.

I joke sometimes, but the eff KU chant is super small timey and puts us on the same level as TAMU's obsession with Texas.

This as much as the language is why it's an embarrassment. Just dumb.

Agreed. While I agree with the sentiment, the students need to come up with a better and more creative way of putting down our rivals. And they need to use it during the actual KU game.  "Eff KU" during Baylor pregame is middle school crap.

Sorry, still bored. Total wins by decade.

2010s
KSU 62-31
KU 14-70

2000s
KSU 71-54
KU 57-63

1990s
KSU 87-30-1
KU 58-57-1

1980s
KSU 22-86-3
KU 37-69-6

1970s
KSU 36-74
KU 45-65-2

1960s
KSU 18-80-1
KU 49-49-4

1950s
KSU 30-67-3
KU 43-53-4

1940s
KSU 14-75-4
KU 45-48-6

1930s
KSU 48-34-8
KU 37-44-8

1920s
KSU 39-33-9
KU 32-37-10

1910s
KSU 50-29-6
KU 45-23-8

1900s
KSU 40-35-2
KU 64-25-7

Before 1900
KSU 4-7-4
KU 57-18-2

Thoughts: up until WW2, KSU had a relatively decent winning percentage. Then everyone else got serious while we sat on our thumbs for 50 years. As good as Snyder has been, that's a LOT of bad football to overcome.

Nearly 30% of KUs all time wins came before WW1. Yowza. They finally dropped below 0.500 all time a couple years ago. With 620 all time losses, they're a couple of bad years away from tying KSU in the loss column.

Back to appreciating Barnes... kid has some gigantic arms. Bet it's impressive to watch him do work in the gym.

One thing that I think people are forgetting is that there are two schools that can end the Big 12. Texas is obviously the big dog, but OU also has access to the launch codes and their fingers on that big red button.

If the next couple of years prove that the Big 12 is too disrespected to get our conf champ into the CFP, OU is going to push that button.  We don't only have to worry about whether Texas will cede power and go elsewhere... we also have to worry about OU acting like a loose cannon. And does anyone think Boren is not a loose cannon?

Ideally, the Big 12 needs Texas or Oklahoma to get into the playoff and win it. Failing that, the Big 12 needs to consistently get its champ into the playoff. Failing THAT, the Big 12 is going to simply dissolve when the GOR and TV contracts end as OU goes elsewhere.

for the last time, ku football is not hurting.  they're back and it's time we get used to it.

Back? When did they ever arrive?

1995 and 2008

Wasn't it 2007 when they had their great season? Idk, it was too long ago for anyone to really remember.

I'm worn out by this thread. Let me wrap some things up. I've spent the last seven years walking a tightrope. I'm thankful it's over, but there are a lot of shades of gray here.

For example, we should all be thankful for the incredible facilities transformation that took place under JC. You can come up with many reasons why it happened, but at the end of the day he offered the blueprint to get it done, the push to make it happen and unlike every AD before him, JC did not compromise on quality. He thought K-State deserved the best. We should all be thankful and hope that mindset doesn't end.

Also, Coach Snyder does at times need to be told no. I'm happy about the scheduling changes. I'm overjoyed that JC literally tore down the old Vanier Complex despite HCBS calling it "the perfect" football facility, which it clearly wasn't.

JC's failings came in personnel management and his need to assert authority and always meddle in his programs. It was truly bizarre and completely unnecessary. I feel for my friends at the Tennessee Rivals site.

I've elected not to drag a specific student-athlete into this discussion because he was put in a very uncomfortable position by an AD who tried to use him as leverage to annoy HCBS and his staff.

I am certain of one thing. This could be a very active off-season.

rough ridin' hell. This coming year has the potential to be a really good one. We have enough issues and distractions already with Snyder dealing with cancer. The last thing we need is drama created by a now-former AD.
