Kansas State Football / Re: Ron Prince Tracker
« on: September 08, 2019, 03:26:46 PM »
Excellent article from former DUD and STUD John Feinstein on Ron.
Quote
After graduating from Appalachian, Prince took the LSAT and thought about applying to law school. But Cullen offered him the chance to come back to Dodge City as a volunteer assistant, and he decided to give it a try.

That began a journey during which he worked for 12 teams over more than 25 years. His previous experience as a head coach was the almost impossible job of succeeding LHC LHC Bill Snyder at Kansas State in 2006. The Wildcats beat fourth-ranked Texas in that first season and went 7-6, going to the Texas Bowl. Two 5-7 seasons later, Prince was fired.

“I like to tell people that the only thing better than being hired at a school 12 miles from where you grew up is being fired at that school,” he said. “The support I got from the community was great.” He paused. “And I do still have the best first three years on the job record in the history of the school. I’ve always been completely at peace with what happened there, for good and for bad.”

I have no idea what he meant by "the only thing better than being hired at a school 12 miles from where you grew up is being fired at that school."  Is he saying he was glad he was fired?  Is this some obvious idiom I'm missing?

I'm guessing he meant that if you're going to get fired from a job, it should be when you have supportive people around.
I thought so too, but is that really better than being hired in your hometown?  Just an odd turn of phrase.

If it was said in the context that it's an inevitability that a coach will be fired (hell, Snyder was), it makes a bit of sense.  Words could've been reordered to reflect that coaching 12 miles from home's greatest benefit comes into play when being fired, even greater than when being hired.
Interesting perspective from Ron there.

The reality is, no one in the community was supportive of Ron. Amazing how time and utter self delusion can cloud one’s memory.

Kansas State Football / Re: How good is our OL?
« on: September 08, 2019, 03:19:21 PM »
Had a grueling film sesh today, trying to get ahead of all the BEEF stories the media will be printing soon about our stable of BEEF this year.

From what I saw today, the BEEFiest part of our BEEFactory is the interior line. LGs Curl and Rivas, C Holtorf, and my personal All-Preseason BEEF selection so far, RG Mitchell, are maulers. These guys are champion-bred, BEEF-fed, stud muffins. We did a lot today to pull these guys around or send them immediately to the second level to seal off a linebacker, and these guys dominated. Klieman likes to send the backside G straight at the middle LB to seal him off, while pulling the C around playside to meet the playside LB at the point of attack. Our Gs really move second level quickly, and use good footwork to seal away that backside LB. Holtorf moves pretty well himself, and pulling with some momentum looks like a 300 lb fullback. One thing they really didn't explore today, but you might keep an eye on, is that the backside G going straight second level is leaving the backside DT unblocked. If they are using sweep action from the RB to the playside, the QB could key off the free DT and potentially keep the ball and run right at the gap that the DT left if the DT follows the RB (for examples, watch the GIlbert 15 yd run on the first drive or Jordon Brown's TD run). On the Holcombe truckstick play, we did a read option key, but it was a drastically different blocking scheme.

The other thing you love to see is pass-pro: specifically, RG Mitchell absolutely deleted his man on the pass rush on a couple plays. You couldn't even call it a pocket really, because he stood his man up at the LOS and they didnt get any farther back.

Our backs are really solid this year, but running behind a wall of BEEF (beef curtain?) in this kind of scheme makes them look really good.

On another note, I would love to see some _FAN analysis of the new O.

This is the highest football IQ thing I’ve ever heard Sean’s name associated with.

Kansas State Football / Re: KU football is hurting

So now that KU football is under investigation by the NCAA, what kind of a kick in the nuts would it be if they had to vacate their wins? Conversely, is that a punishment? They have nothing to vacate for Beaty’s first year  :dunno:

4
Wefald dismissed that option.

Wefald also thought Prince was a home run hire, so eff him. Get the AZ schools.

Shut this thread down. No post season for the Cats.

I think Herron will move to another position. He's athletic AF.

Stockpiling a bunch of hs QBs and finding different positions for a bunch of them seems like solid strat imo.

Has been Klieman’s MO for the Bison.

Each person whose conversation included talk of money had a different parameters, mix of money for salary, assistants and recruiting.

The committee will be meeting shortly to review terms of a contract in a few minutes. No word yet for who. Member I know is not high on Klieman, but it doesn’t take a unanimous vote so it doesn’t really mean anything.

Is this the candidate who allegedly will be a pleasant surprise to you?

Don’t know. Lid is tight on this one. No one knows going in.

Let's say he does present Klieman and the committee votes him down. WTF will we do then?

There were three other interviews that went well and terms have been...negotiated is the wrong term...discussed in a formal way. So he could be prepared to present an alternative in the same meeting.

instead why not just delegate responsibilities to the coordinators and the position coaches?  we'd save a lot of money on HC salaries/benefits and get rid of the problem of having to replace a legend.

granted i've not played football but why would this concept not work?   sometimes when you're working with the many limitations that a school like kansas state has, it pays to think outside of the box.

fire away with the reasons why it can't work, but maybe spend a few moments thinking about why it CAN.

let's roll 'em to purp.

Do we look like communists to you?

Thanks Luke. Going to file this under UPDOG.

I think the key will be to email all KSU fans and asking them to forward our emails to the AD. That’s basically two emails for the price of one and I think Gene would really appreciate that.

Isn't there an algorithm that we could just spam Gene from any ksu.edu, k-state.edu or any gmail account that has ksu or kstate or k-state in it?

Should we send emails, Blackcats?

How many does ADGT and/or Venables need to see?

How many do you think Clover can pump out? Like Russian levels?

But what if?

Wow!  What if it was!

I'd have trouble walking from the constant boner, but my stride is sadly comfortable today.

It's not. Ricky Rahne is heavily rumored to have gotten a an interview.

Wouldn’t it be fun if it wasn’t any of those three dorks?
Do you know something that would let the fun begin?

I kinda want CK now.

You’re probably (82% sure) going to have to get over that.
