The new roster came out with listed weights.  This is the biggest KSU has been on offense.  We are going to pound the ball relentlessly.  Look at the bulk of these men.

OG - Beachem 320, Matthews 321, Mitchell 307, *Adler 314, *Rivas 356

*added Rivas and Adler to this group of interior lineman because these two freshman are more talented than the interior OL vets listed.  I would not be surprised if either eventually plays.

TE - Valentine 270, Gammon 267, Lenners 254

Run the ball. The TEs are huge.

RB - Barnes 227, McCoy 233, Burns 215

Good lord.  Burns has some junk coming and he was a state sprint champ.

Finally, Chabastin Taylor measured 6'4 223  :emawkid:  that size to go along with his speed = dreamboat

Kansas State Football / Chabastin

He is probably going to need his own thread.  Qualified for Texas state meet in 4x200 relay and he also qualified for his regional final in the 100 (that would make him top 32 100 meter sprinters out of 200 4A schools in Texas) and he looks like this.

Kansas State Football / Ian Boyd's take on KSU's 2017 class (nice read)
« on: February 07, 2017, 01:13:31 PM »
http://sportstreatise.com/2017/02/breaking-down-kansas-states-2017-recruiting-class/

Fun read on his thoughts and how they fit into the program.  He had some interesting ideas for different positions than what they were recruited to play per the official site.

Glad I read this as I didn't recall liking Kuduk as much as Boyd does.  I had not seen Kuduk's senior film (just jr yr video back when he committed).  Damn, Kuduk has outstanding feet, solid quicks, good flexibility and pad level.  I can see why he loved him.  He looks like a 3-yr starter.

A few nuggets:

loves Wheeler (thinks he is a steal to get as a grey)
loves E. Walker
thinks KSU might use X. Davis as a TE, Misko as a DE, Owens as a wide receiver.
Absolutely loves Patton as the guy to replace Lee
says Chabastin is a monster
creates a nickname for Strickland, "Strychnine" (because KSU now has two receivers - Pringle being the other - that opponents will have to double)

Kansas State Football / meh, sucked to lose that one BUT..

Snyder is building defenses like he had in the late 90s - early 2000s.  That is evident.  A lot of quality, young talent on the roster on that side of the ball.  And he has recruited well for the OL.

I'm extremely confident we'll have a tremendous defense and a very solid OL next year.  There is a lot to be happy about with the current position of this program.

We do need to plug in a few playmakers.  This will be a good season but the next two seasons might be even better.

Kansas State Football / good read on how Snyder is more "spread" than all..

He is so good they think it is a slothfense when in reality....

This kid can play.  Look at the speed to separate at wide receiver.  Love him as a strong safety or even possibly a cover will LB.  but he looks like he might even be a stud at receiver

Now we know why Snyder wouldn't touch him.  KU fans acted like he was the bomb and it was a huge recruiting coup.  Welp, they beat out Washington state for the kid (nobody wanted him) and he couldn't anchor against the run if he had the gun he was using in the attempted robbery.

Thanks.  You've been a great audience.

LT/LG combo in 2013.  best offensive line in Snyder era.  Can't wait tell they get into that sh*t talkin' juco NT that signed w/ KU (combs, I believe).  They will make his day a living hell.

Running really nice 100/200 times early in the season.  Pretty obvious espn scout fell in love w/ him as soon as they saw video...size, athleticism, speed, beauty

This dude is a Jordy type athlete.  Go ahead and laugh...it's not an exaggeration.

Mark it down.  Snyder will take this white KS kid nobody had heard of and club other teams 4/5 star talent w/ him.

Ye who non-believes has been warned!

Kansas State Football / NSIAP: Michael Smith on Burton...
« on: January 01, 2013, 05:52:00 PM »
Quote
He's probably got as big an upside as anybody we have had in our program in quite some time," said K-State receivers coach Michael Smith. "He has the size, he runs well, he is a tremendous athlete, he is a smart kid. He has a tremendous upside. Going into spring ball he is going to be in the mix. He has earned the right to compete for a job. He has done some really good things."

guys, he's going to be really, really good.  i will not relent on my take.  got all of the tools.

btw, given that nick marshall visits on 1/25 and that we're the only team w/o multiple starting QBs returning...seems like we've got a shot.  the suggestion made on this board by a poster (sorry I forgot who) to get both marshall and waters then move sams to stud wide out position?  glorious.  i would be feelin' it if both burton and sams were playing wide out.

Kansas State Football / Let's discuss OSU's great rushing attack...
« on: October 29, 2012, 01:27:13 PM »
averaging 3.75 ypc in October.  Mustered 2.6 ypc (Randle 2.8 ypc) vs. KU.  Ran it for 3.7 yards per carry (Randle 3.9, Smith 1.0) vs. TCU.  Had rushed it 28 times for 101 yards vs. Iowa State (24 of it came on 3 scrambles by Walsh) when Randle popped off his 62 yarder (Iowa State got gassed because their offense couldn't stay on the field).

OSU has faced both KU and Texas, the 8th and 10th rated rushing defenses in Big 12 play.  In conference play OSU is 4.5 ypc and 187 ypg while KSU is 5.2 ypc and 215 ypg despite facing better run defenses in WVa (yes, they have a solid rush defense), Tech, and OU.

Me thinks OSU needs a true freshman QB to have an amazing game to stay in it.

btw, OSU's defense appears much improved until you see they've faced the two worst offenses in Big 12 play, ISU and KU.  Plus a TCU-led offense that had a freshman QB and even he got hurt during the OSU game.  Prior to Paschall getting drunked up the horn frogs were not putting many points on the board.

discuss...

Kansas State Football / I'll repeat about play of Whitehair...
« on: October 29, 2012, 10:41:49 AM »
multiple times he would get out into space and just eliminate a corner (found him picking on #31) or a LB (specifically #13) and just eliminate anything resembling their participation in a play.  Most of the time a quick corner or LB (which they are) will just easily avoid a offensive lineman in space.  Whitehair is an elite player...they couldn't shake him and he made his blocks in space look routine.

long time NFL starter in the future.  I think he's already one of the top offensive guards in the country and he's a freshman.  He fills in at LT when Lucas goes down...easy.

everybody talks about Oregon's ground attack.  They get explosive play after explosive play on the ground with Barner and black mamba.  Yet KSU is running it .5 yard farther per tote.

This is Snyder's best power running game, ever.

21
KSU with a slight edge at wide receiver.

This would explain why schematic advantage enjoys the current discrepancy in each category:

scoring offense:
KSU 40.5 (19th)
KU 21.0 (107th)

yards per play:
KSU 6.87 (14th)
KU 5.19 (bad)

points per play:
KSU .64 (very high)
KU .29 (very low)

3rd down conversion pct:
KSU 56.8 (6th)
KU 25 (117th)

passing efficiency:
KSU 165 (near the top)
KU 96 (near the bottom)

sacks allowed:
KSU 2
KU 9

yards per carry:
KSU 5.66 (9th)
KU 4.61 (53rd)

Kansas State Football / and Stiverson is back to practicing...
« on: October 02, 2012, 01:02:30 PM »
very good news.  A quality offensive line might get even better with Boston at right guard.

23
(6.87 yards per play) and 57th nationally in yards per play surrendered on defense (5.25 yards per play).

But I would add the caveat of how many teams have faced the caliber of Miami or OU as an opponent to this point?

There are some defenses that rank ahead of us at the moment that are not as good as our defense.  Of course, given the two offenses in Missouri State and North Texas it was apparent we just let them have some yards between the 20s.  Seems funny that North Texas put up more points than did either Miami or OU (on the road).

Kansas State Football / this Snyder-Stoops gif is greatness!..

hysterical this kid is just a freshman.  Lucas just erases his side.

Guys, this is a really good OU defense.  It was focused, playing at home, and had two weeks to prepare.  So we get 5 yards per carry and the QB is never touched on 20 passing attempts and VERY rarely did we go double tight....not even sure we did.

This offensive line is really, really good.

Watch Whitehair...athletic, very strong, stout, stud!!  There are times he takes the upperclassmen DTs in Walker and McFarland and just walks them backward for a nice place to sit and watch the play.  He is extremely mobile while moving laterally...dude is really, really good.
