Glancing at some of UK team stats and game logs, here are a few things I took away...

Offense -
1) In their 18 SEC Regular season games, they only shot 15 3pt per game, making 5 (33.0%)
2) Their overall eFG was 49.2 in those 18 games
3) Have a good FTR of 45.0 in the 18 games
4) They are 9-1 in last 10 games overall, and their shooting has been much better. It is 56.2 over that time

Defense -
1) They defend the 3 pretty well.  Their last 24 games(so since start of SEC games) 42% of Opponents shots are from 3. However, teams are shooting only 29.2% from 3.  Only 2x in 24 games has a team made 40% or better.
2) In those 24 games, teams are making right around 50% on 2pt.
3) They don't force a lot of TOs. From a quick glance, I only saw 1 time in the 24 games that they forced 20.0% on TO.

Jerome Tang Coaches Kansas State Basketball / Barry/Dean BIG 12

Barry =
21.3 pts
56.6 eFG
72.0 FT

Dean =
19.7 pts
67.2 eFG
80.8 FT

Combined=
41.0 pts
26-57 (45.6% 3pt)
75-132 (56.8% 2pt)
**Big 12 games

Dean is 48.4% in his last 18 B12 games from 3pt.
About 3.5 attempts per game.  Need this to be 5 attempts per

These 4 teams are arguably 5th-8th in B12.

Let's put WV Tech Ou Ku in Tier A
TCU KState Texas Baylor In Tier B
OKSt and ISU Tier C

So if TCU KSU UT and BU can do this to get 9-9...
Go 4-0 vs Tier C
Go 3-3 vs Tier B
go 2-6 vs Tier A

So far....
Vs Tier A =
TCU 0-3 (2 home L)
Ksu 0-3 (2 road L)
Texas 0-1 (home L)
Baylor 0-2 (both road L)

Tier B=
TCU 1-1 (2 road)
Ksu 0-0
Texas 1-1 ( 1 home 1 road)
Baylor 1-1 (2 home)

Tier C=
TCU 0-0
Ksu 2-0 (1 home 1 road)
Texas 1-1 (1 home 1 road)
Baylor 0-1 (1 road)

1) biggest positive for me is the lack of TOs.  In 10 of last 11 games, our TO% has been 17.0 or under. 5 times it was under 14.0

2) Team FT shooting - last 11 games we are at 76.3% which is very good

3) The Big 4 is at 35.7% on 3 pt shooting. The 2 awful shooting games prevented this from being 40%

4) Maiwen has made 29 of his last 34 2Pt FGA.  He's 36-45 on the year.  Best game of the year last night

5) Wainright - 28 Rebounds & just 3 TOs, while hitting 56.3 % on eFG in his last 111 minutes on the court (8 games).   Those add up to solid numbers per 100 Poss (it's 10 Reb 1 TO per 40 min)

6) Diarra - Scoreless in 5 of last 9 games. Shooting just 44% eFG and 2-14 3pt in those 9 games.  I sure hope he brings more than this in B12 action. His 1 TO in last 84 minutes on the court is only bright side.

7) 9 of 12 games, we shot 56% or better on 2pt%. 57.5% on the year on 2pt FGs

Wes DJamer and Ervin .....17-21 FG, 14-17 FT, 16 Rebounds

25-31 on 2pt as a team. Lol at the Wake D

Lost this game because of him.

Pathetic all game. Picks up his dribble like an idiot.

Just 1 of his countless terrible plays in this game

Jerome Tang Coaches Kansas State Basketball / 8-10 vs 10-8
« on: March 04, 2017, 02:38:26 PM »
10-8 record
4 wins on the road
2-4 vs 3 teams that will be 1-4 NCAA seeds
2-2 vs other NCAA tourney teams
3-1 vs 2 NIT teams
3-1 vs Red River bottom dwellers

Knowing what we know about the other 9 teams in this league, everything above would have totally been acceptable.  A 10-8 record for Us. Baylor and WV (who we split with)both will likely have 6 losses.  Isu and Osu would have 15 losses combined (maybe 16 depending on Ku-Osu game).

But the reality is the Brutal February in Manhattan going 0-4 is one of the biggest disappointments in the post Huggy hire era.  That's the bed that we made. That's the mess we gave ourselves.

Regardless if we beat Baylor and sneak into the NCAA Tourney, that won't change that going 8-10 in the Regular season is still a disappointment.

The Weber years are over. They are done. The haters can rejoice. The non haters like myself.... Well we must realize the time has come.... Time to move on to the next coach.

I'm only sad if we lose the 5 potential key performers going forward, I want Wade Stokes Brown Sneed and Diarra on this team next year. I'm not sad oscar won't be coaching them.

1) Kam & Barry 50 TOs in Feb. Over 7 per game
2) Barry 3-19 3pt in Feb.
3) last 6 gms, Sneed 3-17 3pt. Only 10 Reb in 110 min
4) DJamer just 22 Reb in 160 Min in Feb.  That's about 4 Reb per 30 minutes which isn't very good.

5) 0-4 at home. Giving up 1.15 PPP
6)allowed runs of 29-11, 30-13, 27-10, 14-0 and 31-14 at home
7) We had 12 & 14 pt leads in 1st hf disappear vs KU/OSU. We fell behind by 14 and 19 in 1st vs TCU/isu

11
3 home. 3 road. 1 SprintCenter.
Win 5 of those and we will be in comfortably. Either in the 8-vs-9 game or 10 seed.

Go 4-2 and lose Sprint Center game.... I still think we will get in. 10-11 seed. I don't think we would fall to play in game on Last 4 in

Finish 8-10, go 1-1 in KC and we will be playing the waiting game. Truly hoping other teams are losing games. Probably a coin flip either way. If we did go 8-10 we probably face WV in KC. That win would help.

We went 2-4 vs 3 Top15 teams. Nothing wrong there.
Need to finish off sweep of OU & Texas.
Going 4-4 vs Isu/TCU/OSU/Tech is fine too.
If we did all that, it's hard to be too mad from where our projections were in late December.

That said, lot of work to do to get those 5 wins. Somehow get a 6th and win #22 and the Tech/TCU losses are forgotten IMO.

Jerome Tang Coaches Kansas State Basketball / 8-33 FG from shooters
« on: February 06, 2017, 10:19:27 PM »
First, thanks Barry. Thanks for continuing to jack up 17 footers and 3pt when you were ice cold and your shots were not close.  You played so hard on D, why be a dumbass on Offense with stupid jump shots

Barry Kam and Sneed just ice cold. 8-33.  Kam hit some big 3s even if his shooting # doesn't look good.

2-6 Free throws in crunch time. His defense too... 1st possession for them on OT, there was no reason to switch. There was no screen. He just stood in a spot and expected Stokes to switch.  34 hits an open 3.
How bout stay with the taller player Wes. Tired and Lazy.  His steal D was too little too late. The damage was done

Jerome Tang Coaches Kansas State Basketball / Last 6 games, 1st half..
« on: January 28, 2017, 11:12:49 PM »
We have shot just 47.0 eFG. We have only 0.96 PPP
Outscored by 37 pts in 1st half.

1) Down 18-12, 13 minutes in vs BU
2) Down 43-26, 20 minutes in vs Isu
3) Down 39-22, 20 minutes in vs Tenn
4) Down 38-28, 19 minutes in vs Huggy
5) Down 18-12, 12 minutes in vs Tech

Seriously, that's 100 pts in 84 minutes right there.
Down 11.2 pts on ave at our worst point.

I have given up on the Division. Clev plays Det 7x and I hope they go 5-2 or at least 4-3 vs them.
We play Clev at home games 160-162, and they could be resting their everyday starters a bit and not throwing their starting pitchers as much.

We have held ChiSox to 3 or less runs in 5 of the 6 games at their park.  Hopefully our pitching can keep that going this weekend so we can get a series win

Bad, bad, bad.

1-15 FG, 7 TOs. 3 pts in 19 poss

I'm watching the Chiefs now. Have to watch rest of Cats on DVR later tonight

Jerome Tang Coaches Kansas State Basketball / FT shooting
« on: January 02, 2016, 12:11:37 PM »
In our last 3.5 games, we are 52-92 (56%)from the line.  We aren't a good shooting team, so hitting FTs and keeping our TOs down will be 2 of the bigger factors IMO in conf. play

Our TO% hasn't been great lately either, but we did a nice job the 1st half vs Huggy (OR% allowed on the other hand was as bad as it can get for a half)

Last 4 games....Duke Def. is allowing 0.87 PPP, 41.3 eFG%

Duke is +59 while Wisc just +28 on scoreboard.

He's 35-13 in Sweet 16, Elite 8, Final 4 gms.

Roy is 22-12. Pitino is 22-10. Calipari is 19-8. Calhoun is 15-8. Izzo is 18-11.

21
Shooting under 50% in B12 play.  His rebound numbers are down. Seems like he is missing countless shots inside close. I thought Malik played better than him 2nite.

Dissapointing and pathetic at times from the Senior

22
I am getting sick and tired of seeing both point guards on the floor together.

Also sick of seeing Gip play  limited minutes because he refuses to play Gip and Hurt together. Gip has 0 FGAs because our ball movement is dreadful and Gip has played about half of the game. Hurt May be a liability on D at times but he can score and he is our best defensive rebounder by a ways

Westicles has been the worst player on the court today, but I have no idea why he refuses to play Edwards at the 2 and plays both Jevon and Nigel together.   Our ball movement is just terrible and our PGs are such liabilities against zones.  Too much dribbling, poor passing decisions or they force the ball by dribbling into the D and make wild passes

These combinations of players he has out there on the floor are not getting the job done.

23
I'm sure I will be in the minority when I say this....but I feel we just need to play Foster/Westicles/Edwards all 80 minutes at the 2/3 spots.  Edwards has been a disappointment for sure, but I don't want him and Westicles to just rotate in and out at the 3 spot

I don't want to see both PGs on the court together.  I would be ok if they didn't even play 40 minutes combined, and we went a few minutes with no PG.   We did it a lot last year.  Spradling was 2 guard that brought the ball up the court last year. Nigel is really the same thing...he's not a true PG either.

Both of them do it, but Jevon especially.... Too much dribbling.

Jerome Tang Coaches Kansas State Basketball / Starting 5 ...
« on: November 07, 2014, 09:22:22 PM »
I didn't see a topic thread about this. Apologies if I missed it.

oscar stated he may not settle on a true starting lineup til Maui trip.

I've been saying for some time now, here is my starting lineup....

G - Foster
G - Edwards
C - Hurt
F - Westicles
F - Gipson

Gut call but I think both "point guards"  don't start. I think they will come off the bench and play 23-27 minutes filling in for Foster Edwards Westicles.

Not sure right now how many minutes Bolden will play.  I think Malek Harris won't  play much in the beginning at the 4 ( still adapting to college ball). NiƱo will be first 4/5 off bench.  We can play small with Nino Gip, but I think we'd prefer to not do it for long stretches.

I have always liked the Sparty program and Coach Izzo.    And I know one thing for sure.   Wherever he goes in the NBA.....

I will be an Adreian Payne fan.
