Kansas State Football / Post game
« on: September 19, 2014, 01:18:34 AM »
Just made it to my hotel in Petticoat Junction. Very tired.

I am convinced the Magic Hat contributed to 3 missed field goals by a veteran kicker, I have no other explanation.

Will watch the recorded game when I get home - I am curious about the refereeing in this game. From where I was sitting I saw multiple no-calls on both sides.

liblibliblibliblib invited me to come sleep with him. I tried to be diplomatic, and split.

Superlatives will come later, but I was impressed with the fans and the team.

Good Night

Kansas State Football / Went out for some beer in Aggieville tonight

1. Told folks I know Bookie Pimp from a gay online dating service and that we sext each other every night.
2. Several KSU people commented on how many Auburn folks were in town. Considering this is our Super Bowl that makes perfect sense.
3. The same KSU people commented on how "cool" the Auburn folks here are.
4. Talked to a cute KSU coed who has obviously been smitten by a young AU gentleman she met tonight. Southern charm........ :Woot:
5. There are good local beers.

http://auburn.247sports.com/Article/PMARSHONAU-Score-big-or-lose-31219384

Bret Bielema doesn’t like it. Neither does Nick Saban and probably some others. But college football has entered a new era.

The time-worn phrase that defense wins championships no longer resonates. Today, you score big or you lose.

Driven by innovative coaches like Auburn’s Gus Malzahn, Ole Miss’ Hugh Freeze and a growing number of others, college football, 2014 style, has been on full display in the first three weeks of the SEC season.

There'll be more in the week ahead, staring with No. 5 Auburn's game at Kansas State.

SEC teams have played 10 games against each other or against other power conference teams. In nine of those games, the winning team has scored at least 33 points. Only LSU, in a 28-24 victory over Wisconsin, failed to reach that threshold. In five of those games, the winning team scored 41 points or more. In two of them, the winning team scored 52 points or more. In seven of those games, the losing team scored 21 points or more.

The game has changed. Players love it. TV loves it. Fans love it, too, for the most part. Those who pine away for the days of shutdown defense in big games are going to be disappointed most of the time. Too many elite athletes. Too much speed. Too many offensive coaches who are willing to play at a breakneck pace.

Years ago, when I was a young sports writer at The Birmingham Post-Herald, a junior college basketball coach called in to give us the information on his team’s game. They won 140-something to 120-something.

I said “Wow, not much defense, huh?” The coach laughed and said “The way we look at it, playing good defense is holding the other team to less than what you get.”

So it is today in college football. It’s taking hold in the NFL, too. Bielema, Saban and a handful of others might complain, but nobody is listening.

For defensive coaches, it’s no longer about how many yards you give up. It’s about holding teams to field goals instead of touchdowns. Not so long ago, giving up three touchdowns in a game would send defensive coordinators scrambling for answers. No longer, not against top-notch competition.

Auburn defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson, in his fifth decade as a coach, has had front-row seat for the changing of the game and the changing of the guard.

“That’s the way football has evolved,” Johnson says. “When you go back to when football started, there was not even a forward pass. All these things that have occurred over the last 15 or 20 years are just like everything that has occurred over the last 60 years.”

The offensive revolution started, really, in 1980. That’s when a rule was passed that allowed offensive linemen who were retreating to pass block to extend their arms and use their hands. In 1985, the rule was changed to allow all blockers to extend their arms and use their hands in all circumstances.

“Legalized holding,” old-schoolers grumbled. Few rules did more to change offensive football.

“You couldn’t pass block the way people are running offenses now if you didn’t change the rules,” Johnson said. “So they changed the rules to make the game more exciting and more fan-friendly. It’s just part of it. It doesn’t make my job any more difficult than the guy on the other side of the field trying to stop us. It’s all relative. Whatever fills those seats and cuts those TV sets on, that’s the way the rules are going to go. That’s the way it is.”

And nowhere is it like that more than at Auburn, where the mere presence of Nick Marshall, a new-age quarterback who can win with his arm or his feet, puts defenses in a quandary, where Malzahn’s offense can beat you throwing, can beat you on the option or can beat you running straight at you.

Blocking, tackling, toughness and execution still matter, too, and always will. But this isn’t your daddy’s football.

Kansas State Football / Bad news for K State (Bullshit only in this thread)
« on: September 15, 2014, 02:42:54 PM »
I have chosen to wear my 'lucky' hat to the game Thursday. Auburn is undefeated in games I have attended while wearing this hat, dating back to 2006. Unfortunately for the program I was working at a project in Michigan for much to the 2012 season otherwise it might have turned out much differently.

"I don’t if you noticed, but Auburn women’s golf team and head coach Kim Evans won their first tournament since 2012 this week. With that championship, head coach Kim Evans had come full circle."

In your face K-State!!!!!

Kansas State Football / Football this week(end)
« on: September 10, 2014, 10:18:42 PM »
Looking at the schedule for this week, only two games really look to be worth watching:
1) USCe and UGA - Is UGA really that good and will USCe's meltdown at home against TAM continue?
2) UF and UK - Which one is really the second worst team in the SEC East.

Two other games are worth watching only if you don't have anything more important to do like flossing your cat or cutting your neighbor's grass.
1) ARK and TT - We know the SEC-SEC-SEC will win this one, but by how much?
2) OU and UTn - Can UTn stay close in this one for a whole quarter? UTn has arguably the youngest team in Div I football, but they are talented youngsters.

Kansas State Football / Serious Questions - No Frivolity or Tomfoolery!
« on: September 09, 2014, 07:09:54 PM »
I am seriously thinking about coming out to the game.

1. Does anybody have a single ticket available?
2. What kind of ticket prices can I expect outside of the stadium?
3. Where do visitors sit? (in case I need to buy online, but not critical.
4. Is there forage available for my mule?

Not a troll, I promise. Your forum was discovered by one of the members of the Auburn message board I am a member of and some of the posts here were re-posted there. Few of our people are talking crap about the game; most are worried about it being a "trap" game.
I have read some of your threads about the state of your program and they uncomfortably remind me of our own posts during the 2012 season when we went without a single SEC win. Of course we ended up with Malzahn as HC after that season so that pain was worth it in the end.

In this thread, I will occasionally re-post articles from our staff about the upcoming game in case any of you are interested.
