Huge game tomorrow for the 'Cats. A win over Tech will really establish us as the LEAD DOG in the race for the big 12 title.

Texas Tech got off to a really good start this season, but they have been kind of shitty as of late. they struggle to score but are a very good defensive team. but you already know that because this blog is very smart when it comes to basketball.

I'm expecting a low-scoring defensive SLUGFEST, but I think we have better playmakers on the offensive end. Wade being the difference.

Alright. 'Cats going for 3-IN-A-ROW tonight in Norman against OU.

Will they do it? Methinks that they very well could!

Essentially Flyertalk / ATTENTION: csourky's/CAS Awards are BACK!
« on: January 02, 2019, 09:47:24 AM »
Hello everyone. Starting RIGHT NOW. The evaluation process for the csourky's/CAS Awards has begun.

It's been a long-awaited return, but it's back. So get excited.

The categories will be as follows:

Best Poster of The Year
Best Thread of The Year
Best Post of The Year
Most Improved Poster
Feud of The Year
Best New Poster
Worst Post of The Year

That's all the categories for now. Additional categories may be added later.

For nominations: Post in this thread and @ me with your nomination.

NOTE: Anything that has happened in 2018 doesn't matter. All csourky's/CAS Awards will be judged SOLELY off the BBS'ing that has occurred in 2019.

Don't be a clown about nominating a bunch of random stuff just to nominate it. This is the csourky's/CAS Awards. It's a very prestigious award and doesn't need a bunch of drivel mucking up everything, ok?

With that being said. Nominate away.

Kansas State Football / VANDY PREVIEW
« on: September 12, 2017, 09:09:58 PM »
Ok everyone. 2 games played. 2 dominating victories.

Will this trend of domination continue? Read on to find out!

Vanderbilt is a team from the Southeastern Conference (SEC). They are also 2-0 entering this game.

The Vandy offense is led by QB Kyle Shurmur (sp?) and RB Ralph Webb (no relation to Allen). In all seriousness, Vandy's offense could be one of the better ones in the SEC (all of the offenses in the SEC are very weak). Shurmur is off to a very good start this season and Webb is one of the best backs in the SEC.

Defensively, Vandy is a solid group. They return 7 starters from last years defense that played pretty well considering they were handicapped by a brutal offense. But with a better offense so far this year, the defense won't have to carry as much weight.

PREDICTION TIME: Vandy is a slight step up in competition from what our Cats have faced so far this year. Some Vandy fans have said this is the biggest game in the history of the program. I have no doubt that we will receive their best effort. But their best won't be good enough.

Behind a punishing ground attack led by Sisco + Barnes + Meathook and a prolific forward-passing game that hasn't ever been seen in the SEC, the Cats win 31-21.

Kansas State Football / Charlotte Preview
« on: September 05, 2017, 11:38:08 AM »
Well, here we are. Week 2 of the college football season and this week OUR Cats take on the Charlotte 49ers.

Let me cut to the chase as quickly as I can. Charlotte is a bad football team who we will have no trouble beating before heading into our game against Vandy (PREVIEW COMING NEXT WEEK!).

Charlotte lost to Eastern Michigan 24-7 in Yspilanti (cool name for a town). Hasaan Klugh is their QB. He threw for 114 yds and ran for another 100 last week. Brad Lambert (former EMAW'er) is their head coach and Matt Wallerstedt (EMAW football player and former RP assistant) is their D-Coordinator. i'm sure they will enjoy their time in manhattan.

That's enough about their football team. Here are some interesting facts about our opponent from the Queen City:

-Clay Aiken is an alum.

-Matt Hardy of professional wrestling fame attended Charlotte, but did not graduate.

-Joe Posnanski, formerly of the KC Star, is a graduate.

PREDICTION: As I alluded to in the beginning, this will be a cakewalk as we head to take on Vanderbilt next week. Sisco will continue his early season aerial assault on the opposition as the Cats cruise to a 49-7 victory of the 49ers.

-Nothing new in here really. But a nice article nonetheless.

This goes a few different ways for me.

At the game/tailgaiting: Coors Light/Natty and Jack Daniels/Crown

At a bar/house watching the game: Coors Light/Natty and RBV.

I often get asked, "cas4ksu, you are an adult now, why do you still drink natty."

Answer is simple. Because it is a great beer to drink 15+ of.

Kansas State Football / Central Arkansas Preview
« on: August 24, 2017, 11:01:15 AM »
Central Arkansas is our season opener. But, of course, you already knew that.

What you might not have known is that the creator of 4chan (Hiroyuki Nishimura) is a grad of Central Arkansas. Who knew?!?

As for their football team, they are a very respectable FCS team. They are projected to finish second in the Southland behind Sam Houston State and they are ranked #15 nationally in the preseason FCS poll.

They return their quarterback Hayden Hildebrand (HH). HH was pretty good last year throwing for 19 TDs and 10 INTs. They also return their leading rusher and from last year from what was a good offense (33 PPG). George Odum was their top tackler last season for a defense that allowed 22 PPG.

Some other notes:

Primary color is also purple.
Scottie Pippen went there (may have already known)
Charlie Strong went there (may NOT have already known)
The university is in Conway, Arkansas and they are a sister city with Quakenbrueck, Germany.

Prediction:

A lot to take in here. Central Arkansas is a fine FCS team, but K-State should have no problem winning by 3 or more TDs. I expect that Cats to pick up where they left off last season in terms of running the ball efficiently. I also expect Ertz to have a good day throwing the ball as the Cats cruise to a 42-14 win.

Kansas State Football / Ranking 2017's games in order of difficulty:
« on: August 16, 2017, 01:52:32 PM »
How do you see them? Here's my order:

1. @OSU
2. OU
3. @UT

4. TCU
5. WVU
6. @TTU
7. @Vandy
8. BU
9. ISU

10. @KU
11. Central Arky
12. Charlotte

The first tier of games are far and away the toughest IMO. We'll probably be a touchdown or so underdogs to each of the Oklahoma schools and pretty much a pick 'em against UT.

The second tier games I feel pretty good about. TCU could be improved this year. The Hoopies could be tough. Always get a little nervous with Tech on the road. We've had some trouble with there in the past. Vandy on the road early could be a little test. Baylor under a new regime.. who knows? ISU plays us tough always. They got bumped to the second tier due to their number of near misses.

Third tier of games are simple, no-brainers that you can put in the win column. No discussion needed.

What say you?

Sounds like he's out for today and possibly next week.

This is according to Matt Walters on Powercat Gameday.

Fellas, it's time to go on the record and say what you think OUR Cats football team's record will be.

Anything you have said in previous discussions about your season prediction is now thrown out. This is the end all be all, if you will.

Have at it:

vs. South Dakota
@ UTSA
vs. LA Tech
@ Ok. St.
vs. TCU
vs. OU
@ UT
vs. Baylor
@ TTU
vs. ISU
@ KU
vs. WVU

An excerpt from his annual preview magazine:

(Talking about Hubener)

"His backup, former walk-on "Bazooka" Joe Hubener played in 7 games."

17
Alright guys, hear me out. Personally, I don't think we are going to be all that good this year. BUT WE COULD BE, I SUPPOSE!

With the way the schedule sets up this year, all of the marquee games are at home. This bodes well for Gameday chances.

I think we have a pretty good shot of being undefeated for the TCU game at home. If we were to beat TCU, then OU is in town the following week and OU I think will be undefeated for that game as well.

While College Gameday isn't nearly as good as it was in the past, it would still be a cool thing to have Chris and the Boys Rece and the Boys in town.

Kansas State Football / If you were a 5-Star QB...
« on: June 26, 2015, 07:52:47 PM »
Where would you go to college?

This is always a good bar debate topic that my friends and I get into.

For the sake of this argument, if you want to be a dual-threat or pocket type QB that is entirely up to you. Offensive systems and coaching styles are also applicable to any school. (ie: Let's say you are an engineering nerd and love Atlanta, GA for whatever reason, but you are a pocket passer so you don't think Georgia Tech is an option. Well it is an option!<<< PUN INTENDED!!!!)

Also, GA Tech has a horrendous stadium. So don't consider them.

So what say all of you?!?

Kansas State Football / Let's talk Spring Game/Practice ITT (!!!)
« on: March 28, 2015, 12:36:32 PM »
What are you wild Cats fans looking forward to seeing/hearing about leading up to the Spring Game?

-Is Bazooka Joe spinning the ball better than anyone we've ever had?

-Is Warmack looking like a future Doak Walker semifinalist?

-Is Stanton Weber channeling his inner Wes Welker?

-After a full offseason, is Clink looking like the player we thought he would be?

All of these questions (AMONG OTHERS) could be answered in this thread!!!

UT has looked much better since we shut them out, anyone else think that UT might win this one?

Really enjoy looking at the trend lines for their top 25 FEI ratings.

Basically, what the FEI does is it eliminates end of half clock kills, adjusts for garbage time at the end of the game, and rewards a team for playing well and still losing against a good team more than it does playing poorly against a bad team and still winning.

They were particularly high on our cats last season, having us only losing to Baylor and Okie State in the regular season. They did have us losing a close one to Michigan in the BWW, so that hurts their credibility a bit. We all make mistakes.

A good time waster at work if nothing else on a Friday.

Apparently he is done working with KMAN and is going to start a career in banking in MHK. I think he'll still be the sideline reporter tho.

If you have ever had the pleasure of hearing Dlew12's imitation of Matt Walters, you may have thought you were listening to chilidog matt himself.

Kansas State Football / Let's talk Auburn...
« on: May 31, 2014, 09:40:56 PM »
Similarly titled to my OU thread. I don't think there is much question that the Auburn game is the most anticipated home game in quite awhile, but what do we make of them?

It's been talked about plenty of how fortunate they were last season (tipped ball against UGA, Davis against Bama) and they replace arguably the best player in the nation on their offensive line and a stud back with Mason. However, by returning Marshall their offense shouldn't suffer much.

Their defense was suspect all season and their biggest question has to be their secondary. Last year it was 102nd in the nation in passing yards per game. Obviously this bodes well for Lockett.

Come game time, Auburn will presumably be ranked in the top 5 and probably a double digit favorite at kick. However, I feel like that will be mostly due to the public. No team has been bet more in Vegas to get to the playoff and win than Auburn. Also, Nick Marshall has had twice as much money been wagered on him than any other player for the Heisman thus far.

Is Auburn a product of public hype? Luck? Combination of the two? They could have just as easily been an 8-4 team as an 11-1 team.

I don't know, but I definitely think we have a solid chance of upsetting them.

Most pundits are picking OU to win the conference this year, which is understandable coming off of their Sugar Bowl win.

But how good are they actually going to be?

I think Trevor Knight is overrated. Did he play great against Alabama, of course. But to expect similar performances over the course of an entire year is a bit of a stretch. Remember, if it isn't for Blake Bell, OU is not in the Sugar Bowl.

Others have pointed to their defense as being the reason they should be the top team in the conference:

Their average of 5.2 yards per play (given up) on the season is far from elite, as it ranks 4th in the Big 12 and 42nd nationally. And in their last three games their yards per play was one of the 20 worst in the nation.

Using metrics provided by FootballOutsiders, it shows they have a favorable ranking of their defense, as they rank them in the top 15. However, any metric that has Auburn's D in the top 10 is a little bit confusing.  http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/feidef2013

In talking with Dlew12 awhile back, he brought up the point that we generally play OU tougher in Norman than we do here. '09 and '01 come to mind as games we entered with a far either worse or inexperienced team.

Hopefully this year we can do 2012 all over again.
