Hello Emaws.

Last week, Oscar's ex-school honored one of your finest. I wrote about it

Here's the first time oscar employed the concept in a post-game comments (at 2:22).

He did it again yesterday.

Maybe he's not good at seeing the future, but good at recognizing it when it happens over & over again.

Hey EMAWs, long time no troll.

But naturally, I've been following along. You've earned a special place in the hearts of Illini fans who reject the glass is half-empty/half-full dichotomy in favor of the I don't care how full it is, it's urine view. Your Scout board is even worse than our Scout board. Your reality-based board (here) is more fun than our reality-based board.

The schism in your fanbase may not follow the same schedule as ours. But it seems like you're on Weber Year Five, which should save you some time. You probably know the history already, but I'll recap briefly. In 2008, Weber lost a school-record 19 games. He lost at home to Tennessee State and Miami of Ohio. That was Year Five.

In Year Six, the team Rough Ridin'ed itself to a distant second place tie in the Big Ten, a full game ahead of Penn State, which beat the Illini in Champaign by a score of 38-33. Minnesota finished two games behind the Illini, despite lambasting them 59-36.

Sure, you scored only 12 points in the first half against Georgia. But jeebus, at least the final score looked normal.

Chester Frazier willed that team to more wins than its talent deserved. I retain a lot of respect for Chester Frazier. I also like Chris Lowery. I recommend that you don't blame them for anything. (It's important to remember that no one but oscar Weber is to blame for oscar Weber. This concept can be hard to grasp in the face of Weber's incessant self-praise + blame-casting routine. You guys are smart. I think you'll be able to Point The Finger accurately.)

For me, yesterday's game recalled a time five years (and 11 days) earlier, when Weber was first OutFoxed. It was a time when Illini fans were becoming more vocal in their doubts, calling our Coach of the Year spade a spade.

From the AP: The Illini (8-3) never led in the second half until Demetri McCamey's three-point play with 35.6 seconds remaining made it 67-66. Sounds familiar, yeah?

I covered the game as well. I just looked back at my articles from that time, and based on reader comments, it seems to be the month when the wool left my eyes.

To all you right-on motherfuckers at Emaw,

I'm delighted to find an online forum where the "global moderator" is responsible for generating profane threads. Hear, hear!

Please ignore the following copy/paste hatchet job if you already saw it at Scout

Thank you for allowing me to join your conversation. I'm a fan of Manhattan, and enjoyed playing a couple of acoustic gigs at Radina's back when I was a traveling musician.

For the last four years I've covered Illini basketball for Champaign-Urbana's alt-culture magazine, and also its public radio station. Between the two outlets, I've reported serious (if bland) straight news and outrageous (if accurate) gay news.

On the bright side, I remember writing the phrase "oscar Weber is a genius until further notice," so I Googled it, and found that I'd written it three times.

Thus, here's the good news:

The bad news is more extensive.  My publisher would be happy to have you add unique hits to all the bad news, and I certainly encourage you to do so.

But for now, I'll trumpet only  piece. This was the day I recognized that three years of mediocre basketball was not the worst of our troubles. This was when I recognized we had A Serious Problem.

To pile on, I share the viral post-Purdue meltdown/press conference that garnered so much attention this February. And  Weber's farewell speech, from three weeks ago.
