I received an email from the Ath Dept asking for feedback on the MBB program.

Jerome Tang Coaches Kansas State Basketball / Sprint Center vs A&M

Does the game today against A&M signify how the rest of the season is going to go?

The way I see it: Win, and we still have the chance to not be terrible. Lose, and it's time to just turn off the lights and start getting ready for football season again.

I think today is a huge game for this team. Unfortunately, I don't have a good feeling.  :frown:

Kansas State Football / 2013-2014 K-State budget

I'm sorry if this was discussed on here somewhere else.  If so, feel free to shoot me and bury me out back. (Also, delete thread.)

Here is the link to the 2013-14 K-State Athletics budget. I have a few questions that you may help with.

On the expenses side, I see that debt service is projected to be $5.48 million.  How much debt do we actually have on our books to make our annual payments be this high?  It has to be near $80 million, doesn't it?  Why do we have so much?  I thought we've been raising record amounts of cash donations to help pay for some or all of the BTF and WSC? If so, why have we issued so much debt?

Last year's budget card projected revenue of $3.85 million from K-State Sports Properties (our Tier 3 contract).  This year's budget card projects the exact same amount.  There was a bit of a hubbub last year when it looked like many of our basketball games wouldn't be televised due to negotiating issues between Currie and Learfield/FSN.  That dispute was eventually settled... did we not get a raise out of that at all?

The Direct State/University funding line is $0.  Does that mean that starting this year, KSA will receive zero dollars from the state or the university?  Meaning, the Ath Dept is 100% self-sufficient and receives zero public funds (public meaning tax dollars).  Are there 'indirect' funds coming in from the University or the State?  What are they and how are they used?

Last year's budget card projected $12.7 million donations.  This year, it projects $16 million.  THat's a pretty big jump.  Is there any concern that our donors are starting to get tapped out, after giving so many millions for the BTF and WSC in the last couple of years?

Kansas State Football / Big 12 TV contract
« on: October 07, 2012, 01:48:52 PM »
I've noticed all year that the Big 12 is getting almost no play on the ESPN networks.  We've had some really big games this year, and they've  almost all been on one of the Fox networks.

Going through the composite conference schedule and looking at who broadcasted what games, I see the following Big 12 games were on ABC/ESPN:
UVA at TCU
OU at TT

That's it.  There have been a couple of road noncon games on ESPN, but those don't count as part of the Big 12's TV package because they were road games at some other conference.  (Texas at Mississippi, Baylor at UL-Monroe)

According to the Big 12 news release about a month ago when the contract was signed, ABC/ESPN is obligated to televise 19 Big 12 games per year thru 2015 (and then 23 games per year starting in 2016).  There are only 8 weekends left in the season and ABC/ESPN still needs to pick up 17 games, so that means we're going to see a minimum of two Big 12 games on ESPN every week for the rest of the year.  If K-State can keep winning, I really like our chances to cash in on that and get a bunch of appearances on the college football mothership.  The more ESPN exposure we can get, the better IMO.  I like the Fox package, but ESPN has an entire media empire built around promoting the teams they broadcast and they're going to spend a lot of time broadcasting the Big 12 the rest of the year.

I see that today is the priority deadline for renewing season tickets.  Does anyone know how much season ticket sales have fallen compared to last year?

Kansas State Football / Arkansas loses another

First McGee leaves for UAB.  Now John L Smith leaves for Weber State.  Is Petrino hard to work for????

BTW, when does Smith start at Weber State?  Is he staying for the bowl or starting immediately?
