Essentially Flyertalk / appliance talk
« on: November 06, 2023, 12:57:35 PM »
i'm probably going to buy a fridge, oven/stove and dishwasher in the next week or so.  anyone have any pro tips i should be thinking about before i do.

the only things i probably care about are the ice-maker and price, i think.  we're probably going to sell the house in less than five years, so i don't want to give the next owner stuff that's too good (unless it pays off in closing a sale, i guess).

Essentially Flyertalk / midlife crises
« on: September 21, 2023, 09:22:55 PM »
we're about at that life stage now, no?  anyone (else) experiencing one?

personally, i'm maybe doing so?  i've basically hit my financial goals and am in a position to execute on my life plan (not work, not live in fresno and instead spend my time rough ridin' around w. snakes), but i'm no longer sure that's what i want or what my wife would tolerate.  it's a weird feeling.

The New Joe Montgomery Birther Pit / the coming debt limit war
« on: May 01, 2023, 07:16:58 PM »
with yellen saying today that treasury may run out of money as early as june 1, feels like it's time for a thread to discuss this slow motion disaster.

Essentially Flyertalk / has goEMAW been purchased by twitter?
« on: April 18, 2023, 01:07:46 PM »
is posting kinda broke for anyone else?  i get an endless scroll off to the right instead of staying within the page field when i try to post or reply and i can't add a quote to an already started reply.

The New Joe Montgomery Birther Pit / no common ground, no ground at all.
« on: February 08, 2023, 02:05:49 PM »
started a new thread for stuff with no visible solution in the medium-term (longer is too hard to predict).  public transit definitely fits, and i'd add health care as well.  neither party is doing anything to solve the problems and don't even appear interested in trying.

we have 5 home games and 4 road games remaining.

The New Joe Montgomery Birther Pit / gender poll
« on: October 13, 2022, 04:53:56 PM »
the question is too long for the poll, so i'm posting the remainder of the question here.

i saw a tweet with poll results from this question and i thought it'd be interesting to see if goEMAW diverges from those results or not.

assuming i don't forget, i'll post the tweet with the results after the poll closes (in two days).

The New Joe Montgomery Birther Pit / ukraine invasion poll 2.0
« on: September 20, 2022, 07:08:36 PM »
four months have gone by, ukraine has mounted a successful offensive in the north and russia has taken some initial steps towards escalation/mobilization, so it seems like an opportune time to see how goEMAW currently views the war in ukraine.

the old poll is linked below.

The New Joe Montgomery Birther Pit / 2022 midterm elections
« on: August 25, 2022, 02:50:19 PM »
i didn't see a thread already started for discussion of the upcoming midterms.

some republicans appear to be beginning to react to the roe backlash visible in the kansas amendment vote and various post-roe special elections where dems have done better than expected.

i think i know how the board leans, but who knows.

just looked at kstate's record and realized that they're likely to end up pretty close to .500 overall.  so we need a thread to track the effort to get under that mark for a historic third straight year.

Kansas State Football / rules questions

is pushing the runner something that used to be illegal or did teams just figure out that it was advantageous like 5-10 years ago?

The New Joe Montgomery Birther Pit / political engagement poll
« on: November 27, 2021, 03:08:46 PM »
saw this and wanted to gauge it based on goEMAW users.  i assume most people here were regular voters ten years ago and also are now, so i just want to know if you generally are more interested in/more motivated by elections/voting than you were ten years or so ago.

dunno if this is better or worse than other versions, but it yields different results (and might thus better translate to vote choice?).

i need a thread to post stuff so i'm not tempted to throw it in the crypto "investing" thread.

i really don't even know what a counter argument would be.  a bunch of dumbasses would be mad at having their tulips turn belly up, i guess.

The New Joe Montgomery Birther Pit / tax poll
« on: June 21, 2021, 03:21:13 PM »
didn't want to make it too exotic with all sorts of options.  so if you only want to tax unrealized gains for the utra-rich just answer yes and if you don't want to tax unrealized gains, but you want to disincentivize portfolio loans and end the step up in basis for heirs, just answer no, etc.

Jerome Tang Coaches Kansas State Basketball / the fight for fifteen
« on: February 05, 2021, 10:12:13 PM »
six games to glory.  the easy part is done, each game just gets harder to lose from here on out.  history awaits.

oscar is trying to match EC Curtis with the worst losing streak in K-State history. In 1922 Curtis' Wildcats lost 9 straight, won a game, then lost 5 straight to end the season before starting the 1923 season with another 9 game losing streak. The media guide says 15, but the count is 14 by the schedules.

not going very well so far.
