All snarky replies aside. Who on here is making the trip?

We almost decided to drive out from the Dallas area this week...

However, we left it up to our 12 yr old 6th grade boy because his youth team has a game this weekend.

As expected, he realized that Texas peewee football is a bigger deal than SEC football and decided to stay and play saying... "I'd probably want to go if it was a big time opponent like Iowa State or Baylor, but I've never even heard of that team before."

 :dunno:

Just refresh his memory:  He was only 11 when this "team" beat K-State 31-10 at their place and rushed for 380+ yards.

Ah do have an insider at The Mississippi State University, just so you know doc.   :gocho:

Cool deal.

Back to the game.  Game time temps are looking better. Around 85 at kickoff and only up to about 92 with a heat index of 101.  For those going to the game you can take in one bottle of water into the stadium  and there will be bottled water stations available underneath separate from regular concessions. Safe travels and Hail State!

War of Northern Aggression?  Lol. No! And where did I say that? The South seceded for slavery, period. All I stated was that those men who died for the Confederacy didn’t own slaves and were misled by the rich and powerful in control who wanted to keep their slaves. No, and I don’t think my black friends at my tailgate would call it “The War of Northern Aggression” either.

Paige Shoemaker ring a bell?  Racism isn’t relegated to a geographical region.

"let's protect monuments to those that owned slaves and fleeced commoners into dying in a war that won't benefit them at all, even if we can somehow win"

-sincerely,
The south

It’s one thing to erase history and another to quote a minority voice. While both are wrong.... keep riding that high horse.

I’m actually going

Cool deal. Come tailgate with us! We will have food and drink.

Why do you still worship them then?

Oh I don’t!  It was a huge mistake. Embarrassing. Wish it had never happened. But I can not control things that happened 110+ years before I was born. I don’t hold you responsible for European colonialism. So why am I being held responsible for things that I cannot control. My ancestors actually migrated from the North post Civil War. So I’m not a proponent and never have been of secession or segregation.

Let’s just say brothers didn’t kill each other over slaves that they didn’t own or couldn’t afford.  Only a few elites owned slaves.  It was the wealthy that ran the state government and in positions of power that sold the war to the poor as being a war over “State’s rights” or sovereignty. They are also the ones that wrote the articles of secession. Not your average poor farmer that owned no slaves. Mississippi is now one of the most racially diverse and racially harmonious areas of the country. Unless you are an Ole Miss fan.  Those people are insufferable.

The Cam Dantzler one wins!  And Mutt is actually an Ole Miss fan that trolls posing as a State fan talking smack.

How much of the town was built by slaves?

LOL Like the Kansas territory didn't have slaves...

And none is the answer.
I like that you glossed your statement by saying Kansas "territory." The State of Kansas never had slaves. We fought a war against Missouri to be sure of that.

No glossing.  Just stating facts.

Ok so just to clarify you're referring to post-louisiana purchase territory but pre-statehood? So like circa Kansas/Nebraska Act? Just want to make sure we're all on the same page here. Thanks go cats

Yes. I know all about the Bleeding Kansas.  And we know the history of the Civil War down here and not the liberal version taught in our public schools.

Yeah some drunks got into a fight and one got sucker punched.  Allegedly, the culprits weren't even students at State but in their mid 20's; reliving the "glory days" I suppose.

yeah, we have them around our campus, too. They're called graduate students

Sooooo you're graduate students aren't students?

Lib-controlled google?

Well Mississippi is definitely not liberal....

The cotton district looks neat.

Weird that it's all owned by the mayor. He's like the feudal lord of Starkville it seems.

Not the mayor now.  But it is a pretty cool place.  They close down the street for certain events and because it has "resort" status when the street is closed you can bar hop with drinks in hand.  Any of you from Wildcat nation making the trip should check it out.

And yes he owns most everything in that area.

Ew

The heat index was 115 in the student section.  Most of the west side was in the shade by 3:00 but that won't be the case with the early game.

why does it take so long to get in stadium?

Idiots running the metal detectors and limited gates open.  Many people complained to our AD so hopefully it's improved this week.  Last game was poorly attended due to the heat and it still took forever.  Tons of folks stayed at the tailgate and watched the game on TV in the shade.

OAN:  You can drink beer on campus while tailgating even though it's "against the law".  Just bring a cooler and put it in a cup.

Are we allowed to put ice in the cooler? I've heard it's illegal to drink cold beer there.

Also are the "adult milkshakes" mentioned earlier warm?

I'm sure by game time they will be warm as will all of our arses.

LOL  Yes you can have ice.  Plenty of cold beer sold in Starkville.  Now back when I was there in the early 90's, they only sold it hot at the stores.  But that law was changed a looooooong time ago.

And get to the game EARLY.  Last game I was in line to go into the stadium at my traditional 45 minutes before kickoff and I missed the first series.
