This is a partial copy/paste from Stewart Mandel's mailbag from The Athletic:
Q: You now run college football. You get to move four Group of 5 teams to the Power 5 and demote four P5 teams to the G5. Who do you pick, where do you put them and why? (Can’t think of a better time for a good realignment hypothetical with all the season uncertainty.) — Christian S.
A: Thank you for filling my weekly conference realignment quota. Though I’m kind of dreading the second part; fans of the four demoted schools are not going to be happy with me.
Move up to Power 5:
• UCF
• Cincinnati
• BYU
• Houston
Move down to Group of 5:
• Vanderbilt
• Wake Forest
• Oregon State
• Kansas: I don’t want to get too caught up in recency bias, but c’mon Jayhawks. You’ve averaged 2.1 wins a year over the past decade. Maybe go and try to dominate the AAC instead?
