You know who I think learned something from ten years ago? Texas and Oklahoma.

DING.

Now we get to find out if the rest of our schools learned something as well. We already know Bowles didn't. A big indicator that the Big XII survives is how long he's in the job. Keeping him is a 'Bob turns out the lights' indicator.

So Rivals has us tied with KU in class ranking and 247 has us 2 spots higher.     :billdance:

Disclaimer: it's rankings, so....yeah.

But the general idea that KU had a month more to prepare with a staff, including 'National Championship Les Miles,' and still managed only to be in the same neighborhood as K-State's class? You don't climb out of the cellar unless you improve your talent pool in relation to the other teams.

Names, guys. I want names.

We've already seen announced several: Messingham as OC, Klein as QB, Ray, and Riley to round out the offensive staff. Seiler and Klanderman on defensive staff.
We're just waiting for a formal DC announcement, as well as a few other gaps.

yeah thanks, i read the press reports too

Well, your post wasn’t clear you did, and I wasn’t going to rat out the pay site. Hazelton is DC. Sounds like the others are also set.

Some of the crap you guys have problems with is hilarious.

This is true.

All I really care about is winning and recruiting.

We won't find solace in new uniform colors, a wood block, the Cat Pack, or any number of 'traditions' if we lose.

JUST EFFING WIN.

Seems like a pretty insignificant elephant to me. The players like it. Most fans like it. Who cares if some don’t?

When the players don’t, dump it.

Yep. That's Fusker-level stuff there, if true. He's cooked.

Klieman got standing rouser at bruceketball halftime last night.   :billdance: was m.i.a.

Snyder was at the game last week. Also got a standing O.

I want a big Pacific Islander D Line coach that can teach all our guys to do a Haka pre game

*spits beer*

Man, do that in time to Wabash with the crowd? Lol

Pre-2018 Sean Snyder = One of the best Special teams coaches in the country
2018 Sean Snyder = terrible

@pissclams: oh, I'd be content to see him stay as STC. There's no doubt in my mind that he's the top STC in the country, and was likely distracted last year with other program stuff. And for me, the fact that he made it through the Prince years indicates he can do so for a non-dad coach without much problem.

But it's also logical to want to cut that tie on the sidelines, and that means SS goes to an AD role of some sort (which he did fine for years) or goes to another program. If he really wants to be a Head Coach himself someday--and not just at K-State--he's unlikely to want to leave the sidelines, and more likely to want to move to another program. Mack Brown provides as soft a landing spot as you could want if your last name is "Snyder."

Here is a somewhat random guess at a staff that are currently at KSU or have a connection with Kly:

DE / Co-DC: Blake Seiler
DT: Jamar Cain - Currently at Fresno St
LB / Co-DC: Scottie Hazelton - currently at Wyoming
DB / RC: Norwood
Defensive QC: Buddha Williams - Currently at NDSU

OL / OC: Tim Polasek - Currently at Iowa
RB: Kenni Burns - Currently at Minnesota
TE: Klein
WR: Jason Ray - Currently at NDSU
QB: Randy Herdberg - Currently at NDSU
Offensive QC: Courtney Messingham - Currently at NDSU (I doubt he would take this)

Special Teams: Atif Austin - Currently at NE Patriots (an assistant position coach)

Football AD BS job: Sean

Well, I think your existing K-State names are accurate, with the exception of SS if he sticks around (as opposed to joining Mack Brown's team as STC). I think the logical piece is for him to be an AD role of some sort, but his "I want to be the next coach" stint implies that's his desire to stay on the coaching side in some capacity.

But I think we'll see more from NDSU than your list above. CR, for example, I bet is likely.

Not sorry for my mini meltdown, but good two day stretch to be a CK early adopter.
Bowls are meaningless exhibitions that show little to nothing about a coach's abilities

Yeah, reading lots into NDSUs performance is a little....desperate. But many of our fans are exactly that. It does give us a snapshot, however.

Bowls are important for the practices, players/fan rewards, and somewhat for recruiting. But not as much for a win.

Mean Gene deserves apology from all of us at this point.

Bwahahahahaha

*deep breath*

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAhahaha...ha..ha.....ah

*sigh*

I'll happily--joyfully--eat crow (and write a check again) after we see the product on the field.

The energy, passion, etc is all awesome. And wasn't ever in question. It's hard to not feel amazing when we were so stuck in 1990s recruiting / program mode.

This seems largely irrelevant to me. Yes, the $3m to Bill is absolutely a buyoff for being “retired.” It’s also absolutely true he deserves it....and some boosters made sure that outlay wouldn’t really hurt.

Regardless, if you pay CK “only” $1.5m, he’s constantly getting asked about it for the next 6 months, and K-State gets the reputation for being cheap going into searching for staff interviews and replacing folks down the road.

Clover and WadeRam make my eyes hurt and are clear KSO spillover.

FTR, I vote BV, but heard the Vanier fam cockblocks the f outta it. Weird.

I don’t know that I’ve ever clicked through the KSO site.

But there is real money that continues to be opposed to BV. It’s not just a one-way street; it’s probably also part of why he’d not return, even if he wasn’t sitting pretty as DC for Dabo.

That’s just a guess.

clover, would you mind posting your e-mail address so that I can e-email you my letter to Gene for proofreading? I really think it is important that I say the right thing, but I don't want it to sound too much like what everyone else is saying so it looks fake. I just really really want to get across my feelings but dont want to sound creepy. EMAW a wildcat!

More idle speculation: We’ve heard, credibly, that the team was told they’d have a name within two weeks. We’ve also been told on several fronts that we’re getting close to being finished with the search.

If it was Klieman, it seems odd that we’d hear that announcement in the middle of FCS playoffs.

But today’s the team awards banquet (see Twitter ongoing). Dunno if ADGT is there, but if you’ve got an internal or person that’d already be at that event, that’s where I’d drop the news.

Just sayin’

FYI, banquet over. ADGT present. No announcement.

People have been blowing up my DMs asking for my opinion on this search. Until now, I have remained silent out of respect for principles of comity between our institutions. But a little birdie passed along some information, so on a 'lark I'll post it here.

The problem with football coaches is that they're all football coaches. This leads to rehashing and amplifying the same tired ideas. We've all been thinking inside the box. Consider, however, what great heights you could achieve by thinking outside of the box?

Damon T. Hininger.

No, he's not a football coach, but therein lies his strength. He's a businessman. But not just any businessman: He's the Chief Executive Officer of CoreCivic (f.k.a. Corrections Corporation of America).

CoreCivic (f.k.a. Corrections Corporation of America) is the second largest private prison company in the country--a country that is basically the SEC of incarcerating people. CoreCivic (f.k.a. Corrections Corporation of America) grosses over $1B in annual revenue, so he knows how to manage a large enterprise. And can you say MCMW, anyone?

Mr. Hininger can leverage his experience maintaining discipline and orderliness among his wards to instill the same qualities in his student-athletes. As a top exec, he understands the importance of surrounding himself with a capable and knowledgeable staff who can manage all the "football stuff." Oh, and did I mention he's part of the #Family? That's right. This proud son would not be a flight risk, as he would be happy to serve his Alma Mater for life.

What this program needs is a fresh perspective--a true outsider who can come in, clean shop, and bring a vision of program management that would instantly provide a competitive advantage against other, inside-the-box-thinking Big XII programs.

Are you bold enough to share this vision with him?

Bold enough? Nope. Nothing about that makes any sense for something greater than a D2 program. Let’s focus on winning games, not reinventing coaching structures.

Keep sending those emails Clover

Look, you may not like it, and you might feel like using a board to semi-anonymously troll about it, but if you want your voice heard, you’ve got only a few options:

1. Donate money. Be a booster. Give. The more you give, the more you are heard.
2. Become a legitimate reporter or radio personality with a platform to benefit the program.
3. Email or call those in #1 or #2 and hope they carry your water.
...
10. Post on a BBS, fuss online, and scream into your pillow.

So at least someone in the #3 category is turning their purple energy into some sort of action. Belittling them for it is just douchey.

Who wouldn’t want the Saban of the plains?

The "Saban of the Plains" line was funny.

Would I give him a shot? Sure. I'd hope for the best, as all K-Staters would.

What would that look like when we fall off televised games? I generally travel to a handful of games a year. I'd probably not. I might watch a few on K-StateHD, if I'm home.
But more importantly, my money reflects my enthusiasm. It's not tons, but it's something (more than the average bear, I know). It'd not go away, but my issue is that I've got TWO schools on my loyalty list (my eldest and I both are K-State grads, but my youngest is a land thief). So I'd probably just go to a couple more of those games, buy my first stupid crimson sweater, and silently die a little bit inside every time I had to hear that horrific, god-forsaken song.

And I'd pray, every day, that ADGT was secretly brilliant, and we had another lighting-in-a-bottle hire in Manhattan.

But I'd not bet much money on that at all.

Shopping for an OC for CK?

OMFG. It's been in front of us all along! ADGT = Catchacold!

It's Brent Musburger as HC, Snyder back as OC, and Bob Knight as DC. With some random cat as STC!

 :Woohoo:

Wouldn’t it be fun if it wasn’t any of those three dorks?
Do you know something that would let the fun begin?

We’ve been talking to P5 coordinators not named Venables.

God damn I would love it for ADGT to nail the hire with an awesome coordinator so people will rough ridin' shut up about how "small timey" he is.

We would ALL love an awesome hire. Every one of us. We'd happily eat every negative word said/typed/tweeted about Taylor.

We're just not very experienced at this coach-search thing, and some are a bit terrified.

I kinda want CK now.

You’re probably (82% sure) going to have to get over that.

crap.  Just our luck.  If CK goes on to tear it up at Utah State we are going to feel so stupid.

At Utah State? Nope, I’d be happy he had the smarts to stay in his recruiting territory and taking the next logical step. Then, we could consider him down the road.
