The SEC and the Big 12 each have half their conference in the top 25. They are basically identical conferences in every way.
Except the Big 12 is a much better basketball conference.

My belief is that the average mouth-breather will watch what they're sold. When there was balance in what was promoted the average CFB fan watched what was on. Now that ESPN has helped convince folks that the SEC is all that matters, why watch the rest of it?

Interesting premise though, although I think it has more to do with the lackluster games so far this season.
Games are no more "lackluster" than in the past unless, of course, you subscribe to my original point. The only games really getting promoted are SEC conf games and OOC games they (SEC) have a chance to win. We heard nary a word about OU v UT-lite, but they pimped our game vs AU pretty hard.
OK, you are right. There is a vast conspiracy between the SEC and sports media to make the rest of the college football world irrelevant. You win.

So how does that work? Does the SEC? Were they like grandfathered in?
Technically speaking they are not allowed to ring the bells except for certain times like between plays, but in reality they do it all the time, especially in big games. The university often has to pay a fine to the SEC after those games, but it is a comparatively small one. When MSU goes on the road in the SEC, the fans are carefully checked for the bells at the gate.

Pig Sooey is pretty annoying, as is the OU fight song they play between every play. Cowbells would probably be 3rd in my ranking of annoying, but then again, we haven't played them yet.
Can't speak to the OU fight song, but the "Pig Sooey" is positively tame compared to the cowbells. I literally take earplugs to MSU games.
