31-13

Cats!!!!!!!

It is very weird for us to expect a 3rd bad game in a row from the offense.

Iowa State and Texas both looked pretty crappy in their game.

It is time to get back on track.

My thoughts on John Currie:

His Supporters usually point to facility upgrades, fundraising and financial improvements as proof that he is a good AD.

I would point out that while the K-State Athletic Department had issues before John arrived, the Athletic Department had very little debt, had Coach Snyder and Frank Martin.

With the growth in Conference TV revenue we quickly improved the budget and added a bunch of debt to build our Football Stadium upgrades.  We had Football, Baseball and Basketball all win Conference Titles in the same year and that helped spur donor support.

I have heard that the Coaches and Currie were not getting along for years. For a while I was neutral on who was to blame but after seeing Currie handle other more public issues, I believe Currie is to blame.

Those other issues include:

1. Starship Enterprise incident, where Currie suspended our Band Director from going to Lawrence because some fans have a dirty mind.
http://ftw.usatoday.com/2015/09/kansas-state-apologizes-suspends-directer-of-bands-offensive-nsfw-halftime-show

2.  The Jamar Samuels western union suspension. (As described in previous posts).

3. The hiring of oscar Weber

4.  Not firing oscar Weber/ hiring Brad Underwood last year.

5.  The Leti Romero incident.
http://www.bringonthecats.com/2014/4/18/5629044/k-state-wbb-leti-romeros-transfer-appeal-denied

He handles issues poorly.

They are probably a 5 seed at the moment.  ESPN's Charlie Creme has us at a 6 seed before beating OU (who he has as a 4 seed).

If we beat Texas our chances at a 4 seed would be good and that means home games in the NCAA tournament.

Kansas State Football / Re: Snyder's 200th win
« on: August 30, 2016, 10:16:38 PM »
Pretty sure I've seen it referenced in here before, but I think whether Snyder gets his 200th win this season decides if it's his last. I don't think he'd ever admit it publicly, but I think he wants to reach that mark before he hangs it up. Think it happens this season? If so, which game? As much as I'd like it to happen earlier, I'll say it happens against KU in the finale. Would be pretty fitting to do it against a rival he's dominated for decades, in what could be his final game in Manhattan. Thoughts?

My theory is this:  After 5 games Coach Snyder will have 300 career games as a Head Coach, That is a good round number that enables him to retire and hand the reins to his son Sean. This is perfect timing for several reasons.

1.  Interim President  Richard Myers that believes in promoting from within (its a military thing)

2.  John Currie is worried about trying to get the Tennessee job and doesn't want a fuss over here in the Little Apple.

3.  Snyder would be leaving Sean with a young lineup which would really set Sean up for the next couple of years.

4.  Coach Snyder needs to retire soon if he is ever going to have a shot at his 2nd comeback.

It is an especially good day to be a Wildcat!!!!!

My advice is to watch the Women's Basketball team.   They are likely to get into the NCAA tournament this year.

8
Washington State seems similar in Tuition rates as well.  Their recent drop in Tuition would seem to be putting them almost as inexpensive as us.

1. Kansas State University is a combo Football/Basketball school. There is plenty of money, history and fan support to run both programs at a top 30 level. Any Athletic Director needs to realize this.  If sacrifices need to be made it should be to track, rowing, women's basketball and Stop Building Extra crap We don't need.

2. If Currie is such a great money manager, he shouldn't need to go to the Donors to buyout Weber. We should have plenty of money in the bank. As anybody knows, much of Currie's success is the result of significant financial gains achieved by the Big 12 and the LHC Bill Snyder/Collin Klein Title.

3. The only reason we overpaid Weber is because of John Currie.  We could be paying him $800,000 to 1,000,000 less. Which program wanted him?

4. Currie should realize that he can get a great price for Underwood. I think $1,000,000 would be entirely appropriate ( I would have lots of bonus money in the deal for tournament participation).  Oklahoma State would pay more but I bet Brad would come here anyway.

10
My assumption is Huggins and Michael Beasley returned our ticket sales to normal. Since then it has probably been flat.  I would suspect that a lot of seats will open up this summer and more deals will emerge.

11
Watching Brad's Jacks on ESPN2. Can't tell you how livid it makes me that Oscar is patrolling K-State sideline. Also Baker of WSU is a poor man's Walkup.
Because they are both white? They don't play the same posish

The are similar because they are both good, however  Walkup has a preference for the interior and Baker for the perimeter.

If I was at Wichita State,  I wouldn't take Walkup and sub him in for Baker.  I would sub Walkup in for Wessel (Walkup is much better).

12
 :runaway:

I have no idea of what to cheer for with this team.  Pete's argument is solid

I know I am cheering for Brad.

"Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart and you will find rest for yourselves.
For my yoke is easy and my burden light."

It is good advice, I think Perry Ellis should retire.

I am also hoping that oscar relinquishes his yoke and bestows it on Brad.

New chart format showing improvement (or lack thereof) over time. (each player is just compared to themselves, ie. bar sizes)

Wow. This chart really summarizes why I hate everything about this team.....   Our turnovers and 3pt % are getting worse for each player.... It is really disgusting.

15
Fan  I like it.  It took me a second to get used to it but I think it is pretty good.

16
The interesting thing about oscar is that 3PT% is the single biggest indicator of success or failure while he's been at Illinois and K-State.

Every season he's had a team shoot 35% or better from 3 he's had an NCAA tournament team that finished in the Top 40 of kenpom.

In seasons where his team shoots worse than 35% from 3, he's only had 1 NCAA team (2014 K-State, 33.1%) and they finished #43 in kenpom.

If you sort any other advanced stat there are at least 2 outlier seasons. 3PT% is the most telling stat for oscar's teams, even more than offensive or defensive efficiency.

This is completely accurate. That is why his teams fall on their faces so often against crappy opponents. This year is actually a bit of an exception since we haven't had a horrible loss.  This year we are just losing too much.

are there a lot of successful teams that can't shoot 3's well?

Obviously everyone want to shoot the three ball well.  Fan is saying that Bruceketball is very reliant on the 3pt shot and that shows up in stats.

KU's dominance in the conference is not based on the three point shot, they win the Rebounding Margin almost every year.  Frank Martin's team need to rebound as well.

What games are we actually going to be the favorite in?

Baylor     probably not favored
@OSU     favored
@TCU     favored
KU          not favored
Texas     probably not favored
@ISU     not favored
TCU       favored
@Tech   not favored

Vegas would probably put us at 6-12 in conference.

I suggest you guys bet on K-State getting to the Tournament since Vegas has us at 5000 to 1 odds.

If we are going to be a bubble team we need Hopper and Westicles to get their 3 pt% somewhere near the 30s instead of combining to get there

I think we are looking like a bubble team (which is a vast improvement over where I thought we would be) but I don't think that we can expect Hopper to improve his 3pt% much.  His best percentage was last year with K-State (29%).

Westicles will probably be fine and be in the mid 30s.

21
Hmmm.....  Depth will really be an issue for this team.

Conditioning seems weak,

oscar loves to manufacture foul trouble when it doesn't exist and completely shut guys down when they get in serious foul trouble.

He is unsure about Whomper (whether to redshirt him or not   :Yuck:

oscar is still oscar and we need to get a lot better on the road.

I can't get over that we had 15 wins last year and only one was a true road game (OU).

Remember this gem from Tim Fitzgerald  from Jan. 18th 2015   (K-State was 11-7, 4-1)

"In a strange turn there's been a segment of fans at Kansas State who have never really given oscar Weber a chance and every time things turn south they jump on it immediately. It is part of social media, a fringe element can all find each other and suddenly they have a club of people that believe in the same thing no matter how silly it can be, they listen to each other, they repeat the same thing over and over and convince a few other people and pretty soon we are all convinced that there is a big segment of fans who believe this stupid idea that oscar Weber should be fired after going to the NCAA tournament in 2 straight seasons."

I left when it got to 28-0.   I went home and watched the Royals and started slamming beers.

Had the Royals not been playing, I would have actually watched the halftime show and then left.

I will give it another try against Baylor.

24
The football team has a much better chance of postseason than the basketball team. I would stick with football.

Geary made plays.

The national anthem was good.

I have no idea what we are doing.

I want to replace these guys (in order of importance):

1. Offensive Coordinator

2. Quarterback

3.  Defensive Coordinator

4.  Need a good linebacker

5. Need a good safety

6. Cornerback

7. Wide Receiver

8. Kicker

I actually think that both the offensive and defensive lines along with running backs are functional if we have decent play calling and more help around them.
