Kansas State Football / Re: Regarding the post "We can do better the Snyder!
« on: September 01, 2013, 07:49:33 PM »
The NDSU loss just brought back up to the surface the talking points from every1 who hated the Snyds re-hire, started calling him old balls, said we'd be stuck in mediocrity forever... just a desperation move by the athletic dept., etc.

Meanwhile, along the way, almost everyone had to admit that they were mistaken, or just tried to cover over the force of their original statements with sarcasm, etc (ex: when Snyder started winning, "old balls" is supposedly a term of endearment).

Now we lose to an FCS school, and everyone who couldn't deal with being wrong in the first place comes shouting all this stuff as a form of self-vindication.

Yeah, it's shallow, childish, immature, and annoying. It's part of the goEMAW culture.

To everyone else - sorry for the lack of sarcasm.  :frown:

Face it, you fell it love with the idea that Waters was an elite passer with the ability to run.  We all did.  But he isn't.  Sams could make all the throws waters made and create on the ground, which would have won us the game.

If this is true, then explain why he didn't get the playing time.

It's his first game.

Remember 10-7 EKU? That wasn't pretty either.

think of all the other beautiful zone dashes we could have saw.  instead we got waters getting stuffed at the line of scrimmage.  we can't open up the run by passing because teams will (just as NDSt did) just say "eff it" and blitz the rough ridin' crap out of us and watch jakey fall down.

Seemed like we either 1.) didn't have a good safety valve for Waters to check to on these plays or 2.) he didn't look for it. Just watching the game, it seemed more the former, which would really nullify the all-on blitz. However, would need to go back to those plays and look at the routes more closely. _Fan???

Kansas State Football / Re: Assessment of Waters
« on: August 30, 2013, 11:43:36 PM »
I thought Waters actually played pretty well. Should never have thrown the INT in-bounds, but it shows it was his 1st game. Much more disappointed in the o-line than in Waters. You can bash him all you want, but the lack of any run game showed that the line just wasn't there tonight. If we get more consistent line play, and w/ a few games' more experience, Waters will do very well.

We just don't have the personnel to expect a run game running draws out of the shotgun with little to no running threat at QB. When we lined up in the I inside of our own 5, the run game looked fine. If we had a running option at QB, the defense would have had a lot of trouble stopping the Sams/Hubert 2 headed monster. Hubert is no Sproles, though. He isn't going to do much out of the shotgun with Waters at QB, especially when all Waters can show is dink and dunk pass attempts.

I think that remains to be seen. Its definitely a completely different look than w/ Klein, and it looks like players and coaches alike are having a bit of a hard time breaking out of that mindset. In any event, none of that is Waters' fault.

This is not an issue of gun control or living in a gun culture.  This is an issue of parents putting their kids in front of a TV/video game instead of spending time with them.  This is an issue of single parent families working 16 hour days leaving kids at home to fend for themselves.   People are spending the early stages of their lives without some sort of meaningful human interaction or connection to anyone.   People that know what love is do not resort to this type of violence.

People in this very thread are referring to this guy as a dead beat/gun nut/loser/etc.   He didn’t get that way by having a fantastic family life. Maybe people will come out and say “he had loving parents, this isn’t like him, etc etc”  But maybe people thinking his childhood was just peachy is just evidence of how low our standards are.  People are quick to point out that this type of thing doesn’t happen in Canada or whatever other country has strict gun control – but what is their home life like?  What are the rates of single parents raising children / teen pregnancy rates / abortion rates / etc.

This just seems so evident of what the problem is, and is exemplified by everyone’s reactions.  Instead of looking to each other with sympathy and wanting to run and hug our children or anyone close by really – we argue and fight over crap that doesn’t even matter.  “Gun control will limit the damage” Is that honestly an argument?   Fixing a home life or a child’s up bringing cannot be fixed with legislation.  This problem will not go away by means of some law.   And arguing over the cook killing the housekeeper with the candlestick applies a smoke screen to the real issue.

HB, you're headed in the right direction with this. It comes down to the fact that our culture is declining at a rapid rate morally and spiritually. This has consequences. Most people that are abhorred by this type of thing don't realize that their actions (or lack thereof) contribute to the overall environment that fosters this type of result. Going all in on gun control rather than the cultural ideology and worldview that leads to this type of incident is one of them.

For those of us who remember '98, I think there is a large portion of  :dubious: and  :ohno: and a lot of . Anything less than a MNC game would conjure up a lot of very deep sadness like '98 again. Even if we get there, and lose, it would feel a lot like Rocky (he went the 15 rounds w/ the champ).

That being said, if we make the 'ship, and then if we WIN the 'ship? I don't think anyone who didn't go through '98 (and has a experiential knowledge of the pre-LHCBS years) could be quite as enthralled and fulfilled. Would be momentous.

Where's the KITN? Where is it? Will TX be the ultimate KITN? Are we destined to repeat the '98 KITN and die a slow, sad death???

This season is legend. You'll remember it all your life for all the right reasons!

Just proved we can win a grind it out game in solid fashion as well. Game was never really in doubt. If we're injury free, and the team can maintain the focus, I'm all  :emawkid:

FWIW, early on in the game (like late 1st Q/early 2nd), I told the wife that I was afraid CK was going to get injured in this game by the way Okie St. was playing. It kept on worrying me that we kept doing so many keepers. And sure enough. Just glad it wasn't worse  .

Even Harper admitted it was "pretty mediocre".  :frown:

_Fan - some thoughts/questions:

It seems to me from watching coal aggie that whoever is responsible for Tavon in coverage has to stay pretty tight or be ready to come up in a hurry after the snap because of the quick passes they like to throw to him allowing (even a little) open field for him to make people miss. Other corners could play a little farther off their receivers, no?

Along that same vein - was thinking about the strategy of playing "bend don't break" type of coverage/D with the team we have. Especially in light of the stats in the article above - do you think this is a conscious decision to force teams into longer scoring drives for the express purpose of limiting their number of possessions/game? If it takes a team longer to score, they are not likely to get too far ahead of our offense, thus allowing us to still be in the game in the 4th, where we have the advantage due to wearing down the defense/establishing play calling patterns which can then be broken for big gains.

Personally, I think if we can hold them at or under 35 points and continue avoiding mistakes, we should come out w/ a win. I'll call 41-35 KSU.  :crossfingers:

Check these stats (  :horrorsurprise: ):

Everyone seems pretty convinced that WV has a pretty good rush D. Sounds to me like we're being underestimated once again.
