Regarding the main question in this topic, I'm going to take a strong stand and say "I'm for it"
I may be an infrequent poster, but JaylenHouse emboldened me to shake things up.

Sorry to keep beating my The Rest is History drum ITT but they just did an interview with Tom Hanks about going to the moon that was both fascinating and entertaining. Highly recommend if you have any interest in space exploration whatsoever.

Wow, I never knew Tom Hanks went to the moon!

Taika Watiti on Smartless has been my favorite. I do enjoy the podcast, but I feel like every time I'm really excited for a guest, they joke around with each other for 50% of the show while the guest is waiting for them to finish.

I've been driving a lot lately, and I also really like listening to Smartless. Every episode has stuff in it that makes me laugh. However, they are all terrible at interviewing. The hosts (esp Jason) love to hear themselves talk, but they rarely get around to forming an actual question or even letting the guest reply before they start talking over them. Not sure if this is an intentional running gag, or if that's just who they are, or maybe a little of both?

I got eye surgery right at 10 years ago. Thousand percent worth it. My doctor did tell me that it would only buy me another 10 years or so before I may need glasses again though. He said once you get to 45 all bets are off.
Got similar advice (got lasik around 40). But sounds like usually the concern is for near sighted problems, so cheap reading glasses are all that's needed and not all the time glasses

Yup, I got almost 20 years of perfect vision from lasik (both eyes corrected for poor distance vision), then my near vision started to go downhill right around age 45. Now I need reading glasses, which is probably just part of the standard aging process. I still consider Lasik as the best money I've ever spent.

We have come so far so quickly.  I have hated the Cowboys since I was old enough to understand my uncles’ commands to do so. They have been in the upper echelons for ages.  In contrast 7 years ago no one outside of KC knew we existed, apart from loyal Melissa Etheridge fans.

Yup, most of this is just a factor of the number of times people tweet about the teams. Ex. I doubt the Jags are one of the NFL's most beloved teams, just one of the least talked about. It'd be interesting to see a ranking by proportion of negative opinions /total tweets.

Hamburger, iceberg, peas, bland diced tomato -- that's a school-lunch level effort.

The total incompetency people show when bagging my groceries drives me (and my eco-friendly bags) to self checkout every time.

Paying other people to do stuff for you rules. It’s great for the economy!

This is probably the least midwesterny idea ever posted, but SD certainly will have a much better aging process than the rest of us.

very cool video of a mountain lion sighting in daylight near Brewster (NW KS):

Lucky to get that video!
Somebody was showing me a trailcam video today that he claimed was a mountain lion. Your video confirms that what my friend saw was a fox.

Green bean casserole
Strong suggestion!

So this is probably buried in the thread somewhere, but what is the most white-midwesterny dish to take to a pot luck?
Specifically, it's supposed to be a pot luck where people bring things related to their heritage. I'm thinking velveeta nacho sauce (velveeta + rotel + cream of mushroom soup).

scared to ask what Oregon represents

Also Alaska and Hawaii

Nothing more than = never visited (also includes Rhode Island). Eventually, I will green those 4, whenever I get there (I’m a 50 state bucket list guy).

It's remarkable how many states you have visited but somehow California isn't one of them. Self imposed?

I’ve been to California a couple times, for a couple conferences with boring colleagues, and one time to visit a friend who doesn’t drink, so I have not been drunk in CA. No boycott, just haven’t had the opportunity.

Aue naturale. Does deodorant count?

Same, I'm not sure I've worn cologne since maybe high school? Prob did in college a bit. Seems unnecessary at this point in my life.

I can't imagine that anyone who regularly showers and wipes after pooping would need anything close to nicname's doseage. Nicname must have a pong that I've only ever encountered from a few Middle-eastern Uber drivers.

I'll admit the reason I don't have pre-check is laziness. Can one of you more industrious people tell me what hoops I need to jump through?

make an appt. online, show up with the required documents (DL and Passport is what I had to bring) and have your finger prints taken, sign something, walk out, get TSA pre like 3 weeks later. It's literally 10 minutes. then you can just renew online after 5 years.

You can do TSA precheck at Staples (at least in NC)

Went to Lonnie's Reno Club on Saturday night with my whole family.  Can't believe this thing isn't more widely known.

Basically it's a pre fixe dinner with a show in the basement of the Ambassador hotel.  Food is pretty good, but the show is something else.  It's a 4-piece jazz band (with some world-class musicians), fronted by the titular Lonnie McFadden, who sings, dances, and plays trumpet.  Between songs he engages with the audience (the venue seats probably 50 or 60) and talks about the history of KC's jazz scene.  The show and dinner is about 3 hours or so.  It's not a cheap night out, but one of the most fun and unique experiences I've ever had in Kansas City.

If you're looking for an evening out with a date, or something to do with a visiting out-of-towner, this comes highly, highly recommended.

This looks awesome -- gotta check it out. Thanks for the tip.

what is hiding under those lovely eggs?

barbacoa, hash browns, and cojita!

Man, once every 2 or 3 years, DaBigTrain sure has a fine breakfast!
Hope you're not just living off instant oatmeal in the interim.

That's a cool and informative map, esp. when you make it full-sized!
I wish the colors were easier to tell apart.

We've seen how constant access to digital technology, social media, etc. has made the generations that grew up with it happier, with a greater sense of purpose & connection to the natural world, and basically eliminated emotional problems, anxiety, and social-adjustment issues. Couple that with the trickle-down economics that are implied in the article, and what could go wrong?

I don't really care what happens to my body after I die. Like at all really. Within reason anyway, i don't want to be just thrown in the street. If I was forced to choose, my answer would be whatever my kids want. If my kids make me say, i'd say cremate and spread me around some place cool. Some in my family are obsessed with this. They want very specific grave sites, stones, positions, etc. They also want me to choose like right now where I want to be and get frustrated when I say I don't want to be in a giant box in the ground with a big shrine above me. I think its ridiculous. They really get mad when I say things like, "what if all those people under there were wrong and are just trapped down there forever instead of being spread out and being part of a tree or something".

My mother's side of the family has pre-purchased plots and my mom reminded me the other day she has one at Sunset next to her parents and that her entire funeral was paid for and I was like okay, that is good I guess but dang

Then donate your organs!!

Seriously, maybe let your residual cells and tissues have a purpose?

Saw D&D at the theater a couples weeks ago, and it far exceeded my low expectations. It's a fun movie, and the movie is much better than its trailers. You don't need to be a DD nerd to enjoy the movie.

Why does the Baha mar hoops website make no mention of KSU playing there?
I only see a list of embarrassing scrubs, including Kansas City Roos listed.
