The New Joe Montgomery Birther Pit / Re: 2020 presidential candidate 'crats
« on: February 16, 2019, 10:27:55 PM »
Is this where we discuss the litany of unaware white Berniebots professing on twitter that "Barbara Lee is canceled" because she had the temerity to endorse Kamala Harris?

I follow more than a few of them and haven't seen evidence of this beyond:  "I obviously really respect Barbara Lee but I think she is wrong about this."
Yeah it hasn't got much traction all. I bet some of the absurd Bernie haters are pushing this narrative pretty hard though

No, it was definitely Bernie supporters, I mean all you have to do do is search Barbara Lee cancelled on twitter. There were several others not using her full name. Needless to say, I was disappointed. I was a Bernie Sanders delegate for heaven's sakes. There was a strong contingent of African Americans leery of Bernie Sanders supporters and their reaction to that endorsement didn't help and was the first real sign I saw that they may have a point.

i'd love it if you can show me any of them addressing the issue in anything other that anti-trump platitudes.  i guess harris has proposed h-1b quota reform, but that'd like, almost offensively minor in ambition.

Not addressing it doesn't mean they don't believe it should be a priority. It will certainly come through in the debates, it's not an issue you stump on unless you are from a border town.
Border security and immigration reform have been tackled by the last two Democrat presidents. Just because there's pushback on what Trump considers immigration reform doesn't mean there's a million miles of space for others to fit in. I want to abolish ice but that doesn't mean I don't think there should be millions, if not billions spent to technology at the borders, not enough focus on the northern border.

Kansas State Football / Re: KU football is hurting

1957

That's how far back you have to go before KU holds the series advantage over K-State. In other words, you have to be 61 or older today in order for KU to have beaten K-State more times than K-State has beaten KU in your lifetime.
Not sure what kind of counting backwards methodology you are using but KU won most games up until the 90's. If you look at it by the decade K-state was able to get 3 wins tops. I get the argument, that KU fans are stuck in the past, but it would be more accurate if you were arguing that they would have to be a fan in the 70's or 80's.

It does suck how much games hinge on whether teams make or miss shots.

KU ain’t losing at home to WVU or OU, and I really doubt they drop @OSU or @BU. I’d give them a 50/50 chance of beating KSU at home and TTU on the road, so I think 5 is the number.

They lost at West Virginia WITH Marcus Garrett & Legerald Vick, I don't know how in the hell anything is a sure thing for them.

Who is brave enough to acknowledge this woman is a moron and a fraudster sent to Congress by a gerrymandered district? She’s all yours, Dems. The future is bright!

This chick appears to be barely literate. She can’t even read the “questions” written for her.

Did this link to a different video than what kkksu thinks it does? I missed anything that could be construed as "barely literate." Questionable tactics but it seemed to me her questioning was clear, certainly was to the dude sitting there.

Nah, he's right 4 wins it outright. 13-5 won it by two games last year.

That's interesting charting. I'll surprised that were behind Baylor in 2 point jump shots. I'm assuming we get zoned more than anyone else and with how well they rebound, I'd think Baylor doesn't get zoned much.

Essentially Flyertalk / Re: Hamilton OFFICIAL MUSICAL THEATER THREAD
« on: February 15, 2019, 12:31:20 PM »
I've fallen behind on my reviews but I want to talk about Dear Evan Hanson. It was a very good musical. The writing is good, the music is excellent, but I'll never watch this again. It was a damming indictment of our society, how amazingly self-absorbed we've become. The thing is, I don't think whomever wrote this musical did it in mind of this being a cautionary tale. It almost felt to me that the abhorrent behavior, of literally every single character in the show, is excused. It attempts to be a dramedy but I didn't laugh one single time because I was uncomfortable from start to finish. It is the polar opposite of Wicked, which was sugary sweet with zero substance. Being the father of two tweens, and someone who works around kids, I'm already very angry about how we, as a society, have chosen to raise our kids. This was the manifestation of every awful thought I've ever had about Gen X'ers and millennials as parents.

Thanks fan. It looks like projecting seeds will be a nightmare this year.

it looks like that now, but everybody has 6-7 more games + conf tourney to help sort things out

I'm not confident the NCAA knows how heavily they'll lean on the NET and how they'll deal with conflicts with the other data points. I don't think it helps that they didn't do a media mock session this year.

"Do not over respect these guys, OK. This is a basketball game against a team that we are better than." Shaka Smart

What precisely should he have said? They kicked the crap out of us in the previous game. Would you rather he say, "guys I don't care if these guys are in first place, we beat their ass once and I know you'll do it again, so LFG!"

It’s a great quote if he wins and he looks like an ass if they lose. To me it’s just kind of weird to make it about the other team. Honestly if I hear a coach say that I’m thinking, wait, is he assuming we were previously thinking that we are a worse team than these guys?

I think it would be better to make it about UT’s recent success against ranked opponents at home, but yeah I’m not gonna mince words but I will lol when they blow up in your face (especially when I assume Smart went out after the game and said we played a really good team today, blah blah blah).

The players likely didn't think anything because they've heard something like that from coaches, a lot.

It's basketball. Who cares. Spending money on basketball arenas is plain stupid. I want JumboTrons, squat racks, and limestone.

This account sucks

This thread got me thinking about other CBB arenas I've been in, which got me thinking about Mizzou. There was no where close to the amount of crap given that Mizzou deserved to be given. They were forced to name their arena after a donor's, living, 22 year old daughter, who didn't even go to school there. Then they had to take her name off when it was discovered that she paid people to do her school work for her.

Collectively, the arenas in the conference are horrific. I've been to all of them but the new TCU arena, which seems fine on tv, and United Supermarkets Arena, lol. I agree with shooter, that the USA seems way too big.

If I was a Texas fan I would find the MM stuff very annoying

go on.....
If he wants to come to games, great.  Be on TV and the videoboard all the time if you like.  But get out of our huddle and stop trying to be a meme on our bench with your orange jumpsuit every game.  It seems like he's treating the whole thing as a joke.

As an opposing fan that gets to have MM at one of our games, I think it's great and funny.  But if it was my team, the act would be tired after one game imo.

You don't think he's socially literate enough to be in the huddle but not be in the way? I'd bet a million dollars that he's less of a distraction on the bench and in the huddle than some 19 year old dork manager from The Woodlands who wanted to be a Longhorn manager his whole life. Who would they rather have around the team MM or Sean Frye. Not to mention having him around does much more for Shaka and that program than it does McConaughey.

I also love MM and am jealous as hell about what he is doing but it seems kinda forced, especially when the arena is half empty.

I am pretty sure he has 3 or 4 kids now so I am not surprised at all showing up at UT games on weeknights has become a much bigger priority for him

What in the world? What would sports attendance look like if local mom and dads only attended games with their kids?
I am saying becoming the Minister of Culture sounds a lot more fun to MM now than it did 5 or 6 years ago with what I assume has been a big change in his lifestyle now he has a family.

Maybe it is just his investment in the arena but this is a perfect get out of the house excuse for him - "Gee Babe, I am really sorry I have this commitment and must go to the game tonight and leave you to deal with the kids" as he grabs the keys to his Connie with seats upholstered from Bevo XIV

That's endearing, he dips out to watch his horns like we do with our cats. The difference is his life is 10x more interesting than everyone else on the planet, so he gets to sit on the bench in a burnt orange leisure suit.

McConaughey : Austin, TX :: Stonestreet : Manhattan, KS

I was about to post exactly this but with KSU/UT.  It's spot on.

It really is. Couple it with the fact that their guy lives in Austin, ours is NEVER moving back to Manhattan.
