Coming from a Stillwater resident, Kite's, Aggieville, and just Manhattan in general will be like coming to the promise land for any OSU fan. Stillwater is a 1995 version of Manhattan.

Just pick a spot and enjoy the hell out of it.

Go to the Chuckbox in Tempe. Bring cash. It's a total hole in the wall but they make damn fine burgers.

Kansas State Football / BWW Dining/Drinking/Partying Recommendations Thread
« on: December 09, 2013, 09:41:03 AM »
I'll be spending quite a bit of time down before the bowl game with absolutely nothing to do. Not so much a problem and more of an opportunity. Therefore, I'd like to entertain any gems of recommendations for the PHX area to keep myself busy. The major advantage of the 'Cats getting the nod to head back to Arizona is that we don't have to spend much time

Coach House (Scottsdale): I think I met Fanning there last year... not too sure. Anyways, great laid back dive bar with pitchers and the entire inside is completely decked out in Christmas lights. A fire marshall's nightmare. Ton of fun though.

Firehouse (Old Town): I feel like this is an off-the-clock stripper hang out. Glad a brewski and people watch. Don't stand in one spot too long or your feet will never unstick from the group. Not so much a complaint, just savvy advice for future patrons.

Giligans (Scottsdale): This is one of my favorite dive bar spots in the state of Arizona. I want most of your experience here to be a surprise so all I'll say is that if you go on the right night then you'll find a midget (little person, whatever) serving up cocktails and all the furniture is miniature. The food sucks but I think that's kind of their point (giliginsbar.com/)

The Chuckbox (Tempe, http://thechuckbox.com/): This is one of my favorite places to eat. It's a mesquite burger grill with zero frills. They only accept cash and the line is usually out of the door. Also, they guy who cooks the burgers just doesn't have very many teeth. If you head by the ASU campus I'd advise you stop in and have a burger. You won't regret the taste. The place is kind of a dump, but again, I think that's kind of the point. Big ASU student spot so it's good and reasonable.

Alright, those are just a few of my favorites. What else?!

Booked San Diego yesterday with Emawblast. Cannot wait to  all the way to sunny San Diego on Christmas eve, bud. Willing to reroute to PHX or whatever teeny airport in the PHX metroplex Allegiant goes to out of MHK.

is there seriously a portapotty on the roof?

like is there a problem going downstairs to the bathroom and them not letting you back on the roof?

Well, for now yes. They have a one in one out system when the bar is full on the rooftop (understandable). However, once you go to the bathroom downstairs, good luck getting back up top with your group. As an alternative, you can use the single person, unisex, portable toilet provided upstairs.

Also, rooftops are just glorified patios. If they arent executed properly, then I'd just rather be on the ground floor. So tell me this, why on earth is my only option on the rooftop to urinate a port-a-potty?? Jesus. It's 2013.

Have heard from 3 different unprovoked sources over the last few days that wabash has the best burger they have ever eaten.

Interesting.

Fundamentally untrue.  I had their "Bash Burger" and was thoroughly disappointed for the following reasons that I will break down into two categories:

Things they can fix:
1) 32 minute wait time - I was there for lunch and it took a majority of my time off work to put a flat pattied burger in front of me. Taffer and Chef Brian Duffy would not approve.
2) Dr. Pepper Machine was flat - really? I mean REALLY?!
3) Plate lacked garnish - This is something I would expect from Tubby's but c'mon... can a brother get a piece of lettuce or AT LEAST a pickle on my plate!?

Things they cannot fix:
1) Skinny burger - If you're going to be a burger joint then maybe thicken that bad boy up a bit. Apparently "all the burgers come medium" but I cannot imagine the difference between medium and well when the patty is no thicker than a sticky note.
2) Diabetes - I'm just not sure why they needed to cover the entire bun in a whole stick of butter.
3) IHOP - It just tastes like it's not something they are good at. I had a distinct IHOP burger flashback when I ate the Bash Burger.

On a slightly unrelated note, I decided to give them a chance again last night by checking out their nightlife. I'll give it to them that it was a wedneday. HOWEVER, "our internet went out so we are going to sit here in silence" is just and excuse for me to take my business to one of the other twenty something bars within crawling distance.

Thoroughly disappointed.

UPDATE: "Fox and Hound" is a really lame bar.  Pool tables and stuff, but there was like nobody there.

Too bad there wasn't a thread telling you where to go that mentioned tons of places that weren't Fox and Hound.

I blame DOOM_Catz

We went to Fox and Hound?!

Horrible headache. I would scout the halls for women with drugs because 95% of them probably have some sort of tylenol on him. However, I've come to realize that 95% of the women here give me a headache. So, here I am...

Pretty good arguments guys. What's left to accomplish in this hobby? Time to pack it up and move on. What should we turn the fOOD into?

I said it outside the sprint center when Pullen and Curt got locked out for shopping in Dillards and I'll say it again... Ice it down. Build up a hockey program.

Looking to party in a tuxedo. Will likely be too drunk to go out after the wedding reception. However, that will not stop me.

So still trying to get over this philly... And sorry to detract from your meltdown, Ell.

She asks me on the date what my favorite sport is to which I reply, "Cats football"

I politely return the question and she mentioned that she loves following basketball. I of course ask a follow up (and I thought I was asking something I knew the answer to already) of "what's your favorite team?" (please note that she is a 'Cat grad)

She then says, "oh I love the Jayhawks"

WOW. The rest of the night I was completely distracted while thinking about if that was a deal breaker or not. The worst part... I still don't know. Thought she was pretty cool otherwise.

You know what's kind of mumped up?  That maybe I kinda miss the whole meet a girl and maybe steal a kiss and get a number and call her and leave a voice mail and wait for her to call back and maybe text and what the eff is her problem and why isn't she calling me and maybe I mumped it up and she's probably a bitch anyway and eff her Ima go get hammered with some bros.

Definitely in this part of the spectrum. Too bad it's only 2pm and I have to wait for another few hours. I will say though, there are few things better than a good meltdown.

Met a girl on a pub crawl. For some reason I overlooked this fact when I decided to ask her out on a nice date. Put a ton of thought into it before ultimately deciding to take her on a dinner crawl. Going to my three favorite places in town: one for cocktails, one for dinner, and one for dessert.

See, I think I went wrong and put her up on a pedestal. Today I get a text back from her (some 14 hours after my last communication to her regarding seeing her again) and she says "I'm pretty busy."

Resisted the urge to drive into the limestone retainer wall next to my old elementary school (yes, I was looking at my phone while driving through a school zone... I know how bad that is).

Went through a brief meltdown at work where I was unable to complete a thought because I revisited the date in my head minute by minute.

Then I realized it was half prices papa john's day 'cause of the Royals. That made me a little bit happier. Ordered 'bout 8 honey wings.

Then I realized that she definitely wouldn't want me with my breath smelling like this!

So here I sit, posting about it to a bunch of internet friends... So help me God....
