We're down to our final week of fundraising, 7 days left!  There's still 31% of the goal that needs to be raised before Kickstarter will release the funds.  Every book you order helps us tick ever closer to that final number!  Thanks to everyone from goEMAW who has made a pledge, and thanks to goEMAW for letting this thread continue!  --Greg

Howdy everyone,

First, thanks to the goEMAW folks who have pledged to the campaign!

Second, tomorrow there will be only 14 days left in the Kickstarter campaign and we still need almost double the amount of money pledged so far. Kickstarter is all-or-nothing, so if we don't raise the funds, the book won't be printed.  Obviously, I hope that won't be the case, I'm really proud of this book and I'd love for K-State fans to be able to have it.

Many thanks for your consideration!  http://kck.st/2dX0xyW

Greg, what team/animal is our receiver outrunning in that pic?

Unofficially Texas.  I just needed a color that jumped and didn't get buried in the detail.

If you'd like to see this project happen, please share the Kickstarter campaign link and spread the word.  It's been a few days since the last pledge, hopefully we can get that turned around.  There's 3 weeks left in the campaign and we're currently 37% funded.  http://kck.st/2dX0xyW

Thanks, and many thanks to those of you who have pledged already!
Greg

Thanks everybody for your thoughts in this thread.  I’ve seen a few goEMAW-ers support the book and it’s much appreciated!  If you like what you see here, please share the project with your friends and we’ll get there!  The Kickstarter fundraising campaign ends on November 9!  http://kck.st/2dX0xyW

Here's a modification.  Made the shadow so he's more off the ground and bent the leg slightly.  Thanks for the notes!

Keep those pledges coming in! http://kck.st/2dX0xyW

Uh, hey what's happening with Willies right leg here? Seems like something you might want to fix before printing...
This is oblivious reference to our starting QB.  But seriously, it's the knee not the leg.

Pretty obvious hyperextension of the knee.

 :sdeek:

I actually do take critiques seriously--to me it's cartoon anatomy but it would be very easy to push that back a little bit.  Thanks for the notes.

Greg, I think you probably picked the wrong place to come soliciting for kickstarter funds.

I knew going into this that I was going to experience all of this.  But I wanted to make the book.  So now's the moment I've been waiting for

The Kickstarter funding truly does matter though.  I don't have corporate financial backing.  I certainly don't expect to get rich off of this.  I do need to raise those printing funds on Kickstarter for the book to exist.

Delete your account, Greg. I'm not going to let you corrupt my 6 year old Niece & Nephew with this subliminal messaging. I'll corrupt them with my own. Thanks!

If it helps you, know that money goes to K-State with every book you buy.

I truly did make this book for the K-State community, and having lived on both sides of the fanbase I get the passion.

K-State worked with me on this book the entire time.  I'm as proud of this book as I am the KU book, and I gave it as much love and hard work.  I think it kicks ass that I've gotten the chance to make Kansas' major universities look as good as I can make them.

Thanks!

If and when I am motivated to dig up some Rhein Benninghoven yearbooks I will post this guys picture from like 5th grade

I must have gone to school with you, who are you?  Send a private message?

greghardin, are there any plans currently to adapt this book into a major motion picture?  I have a first draft screenplay I'd like you to take a look at.

LOL---this is what I meant by saying "I know goEMAW"  I catch up on the board sometimes, lots of fun stuff

Great idea, Greg. And because of the all campus construction you're going to have to publish a new edition every year!

I'm excited about the possibility of a spin-off book where "Willie Goes to NBAF" and contracts a cross strain of a rare bovine disease that horribly disfigures him (TM).

That actually caused me a TON of problems.  Like in the superhero flyover shot, my reference had where the new Seaton Hall building is going.  But at the time it was just a hole in the ground.  So I actually had to draw it in based on architectural renderings. So currently there is a building in that illustration that will be only fully be there later in 2017.

Also Memorial Stadium--when I took my reference it was all being renovated.  So I had to do that illustration in phases too.

Hi Greg, have you seen this book?

One thing I don't like about it.  Willie always "takes time" to do things that I consider to be part of his job, like he's going out of his way to be friendly/engaging.  It's like "hey bad person, that's your job, you do it and you do it graciously."

Yep.  My book is quite different.

15
Have you considered a ghost writer? The pics seem pretty good but the plot is kinda meh and disjointed. JMO.

The plot is trash, no depth to Willie at all. Just different things he will do/does. People already have Dr. Sues books for their kids, and they feature plenty of cats ......now if you recreated a Dr. Sues book with Willie

The pictures are pretty cool tho

The book is a general overview of K-State and the college experience.  I think people will be pleased with it.

Great illustrations. Would buy.

That said, get rid of this guy:

He is not an athletic mascot. He is an illustration from the 1948 yearbook.

He's moving to college. That's why he's holding

TOOTHBRUSH

Get that crap out of there.  :don'tcare:

You'll have to talk to K-State trademark licensing about that.

I'm an ex-Hallmark illustrator

Please elaborate.  :impatient:

Worked in the Licensing Studio at Hallmark for a couple years.  Licensing meaning I worked with properties from Disney, Dreamworks, Marvel, DC, Pixar, Peanuts, Cartoon Network, the NFL, etc.  I illustrated, designed and worked with those properties.  I've continued to work with many of them since leaving Hallmark.

i remember you doing a similar book for the kansas jayhawks, maybe about a year ago?

Greg is a squawk?  :sdeek:

Yes. Fact.

 :buh-bye:

Ha--yes, I'm a KU grad, and yes I did a similar book for KU last year.  However, my parents, brother, grandfather and many cousins went to K-State.  I have a lot of history with K-State obviously, and in fact there used to be a scholarship at K-State in the name of my uncle who I'm named after.   It might still be there, I'm not sure.

I knew going into this project that I would take heat from both K-State people AND KU people.  I also know goEMAW and knew you'd see I went to KU in no time flat.  I was a little trepidacious coming back to this post this morning.  However, I won K-State over to work on this project and I know they're very excited about it.  I gave the book the same full-scale effort I gave the KU book.

I'll also tell you that I'll never do a Missouri book.

But yeah, it was cool--I had access to the sports facilities to take photos and got the full K-State experience throughout the making of the book.  And holy crap, Call Hall ice cream?  You've got to be kidding me.  Maybe the best ice cream I've ever had!  I was so impressed I gave it a page in the book!

I could have done any school after the KU book.  I chose to do K-State for my family, friends, and fellow Kansans.

Thanks everyone!
Greg

Kansas State Football / 4 Days Left in K-State book Kickstarter
« on: October 10, 2016, 10:24:53 PM »
Hello everyone,

Apologies for hijacking the football thread, but where else am I going to find a higher concentration of passionate K-State fans?

I'm an ex-Hallmark illustrator and this afternoon I launched a Kickstarter campaign for a K-State book I wrote and illustrated. It's officially licensed with K-State; they were involved every step of the way. However, I'm just one guy doing this and so I put the project on Kickstarter to raise printing costs.

Here's some images from the book. The football page has been made into a poster and the basketball, Anderson Hall and Wheat Field images are also from the book.

Here's the Kickstarter link! http://kck.st/2dX0xyW  I can see what site referred people who pledge, and if enough goEMAW-ers contribute, I’ll be sure to give goEMAW.com a shout out on the book’s dedication page!

Thanks a ton for your support!
Greg
