Sorry, I haven't been around and we didn't win them all!!

We came 1 yard away from winning that game but it didn't happen.

Daniel was pretty distraught after the game.

So, we were all pretty wounded after the game.

And then our Head Coach, Matt Viator, moved on for more pay at ULM.   Four of the assistants went with him so right now we are rebuilding a coaching staff.

Our D.C. Lance Guidry, who built our great defense this season, was elevated to head coach.   It is like a breath of fresh air because his personality is a lot different than Matt Viator's.   He had the fans ready to run through walls at his press conference when his hiring was announced.   We are waiting now to see how the new coaching staff will shape up.   Our QB coach, Landon Hoefer, will take over as O.C.   He is a Mike Leach disciple.   Newspapers are reporting that ex-McNeese great QB, CFL Grey Cup winning and MVP, Kerry Jospeh has been hired.   Also, ex McNeese players (now coaches) Zach Bronson, and Charles Ayro are rumored to be hired.   We are now waiting on a new D.C. as Lance says he will not be the D.C. as Head Coach.

So, we have been busy with rumors after the double whammy of the game loss plus the head coach loss.

Okay, I'm almost caught up so here are a few more photos of the game.   We have a first round bye in the playoffs so no game this weekend.   We will play the winner of Sam Houston and Southern Utah in the second round at home the following weekend.

First, a couple of photos of Daniel's TD run.   It was a designed run play for Daniel up the middle.   He got a good block by RB Derrick Milton on the the linebacker, shrugged off two DB's who tried to arm tackle him, and went for the score.

Below, RB Ryan Ross begins his TD run.

Daniel and both running backs had over 100 yards rushing  in this game.   Below, Daniel hands off to Ryan and the line opens a hole.

Daniel completed this pass on a 3rd down play to help us run out the clock at the end of the game.

A pregame shot of Safety Wallace Scott, the spiritual leader of the defense like Daniel on offense and who ended up being the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

how fun is it to have daniel sams as your QB?

It is fun, but sometimes it can be frustratingly fun, if that makes any sense.   I'm not giving him back though!   ;)

Well, the Southland Conference officials didn't show up two weeks ago in Lake Charles when beat Sam Houston to win at the least a share of the conference championship.   So, as our Defensive Coordinator Lance Guidry says, when he was the interim head coach of Western Kentucky before a bowl game, "We are going to go get our damn trophy!!"  when we got to Lamar this weekend.

This is been getting a little play around here this week.

I have to admit I'm slightly disappointed that this one went unused...

 :frown:

Hah!   I've seen that one used in reference to the present state of the New Orleans Saints.    ;)

Photos of the two catches, we were talking about:

Some Daniel photos

He's gone!!

Sorry about all the photos, I just got a ton of good photos this game, not only of just Daniel.

One last celebration photo.  Even though we sewed up, at least a share of the conference chamipionship, the Southland Conference, in their infinite wisdom, decided not to show up to present the conference chamipionship trophy in front of the home fans.   So, we will have to wait until we play Lamar for the trophy presentation in front of the Lamar fans.   So, to celebrate a lot of the players decided it would be fun to jump up into the student section and celebrate with the students.

So, now we have wait through our open date to finish the deal (regular season) with Lamar.   If we will take care of business there, then we will probably have a top 4 seed and have an bye for the first round of the playoffs.  So, if we don't screw things up our first playoff should be at home on Dec 5th.

So, if any of you guys are in the neighborhood or want to come down, you are welcome to come down and tailgate with us.  I'm sure that Bookie will vouch for us being good hosts.   Of course, with the playoff game and the NCAA sticking their noses in every little detail, I don't know if I can secure any sideline passes like I did for Bookie and his son.

Congrats on the title, Doc. We're you guys able to reschedule the LSU game?

Hopefully, it will be in the future.   I wished that game would have been played.   I would have loved to see how our defense would have held up against LSU.   I know what Lance Guidry was going to do in that game.   Stack the line to try and stop the run and make Harris beat us with his arm.   Of course, that is Lance's M.O. for every game.

We would probably have lost that game but it would have been fun and probably not the beat down that the LSU fans were thinking it would be.

Are all of the FCS playoff games televised?

I think ESPN still has the rights to the playoffs and all of the early round games are usually on ESPN3 (or WatchESPN).

The later rounds they will pick and choose which ones to broadcast and which ones to put on ESPN3.

We still have some unfinished business to take care of with Lamar.   There is a little matter of some payback for last season, an undefeated season and getting a high seed to take care of.   It is going to take forever for the Lamar game to get here with our open date this weekend.   Will allow some of our guys to heal up some bumps and bruises while Lamar is playing a game this weekend.

Doc

P.S. Playoffs are a hell of a lot of fun!!!

Had a great trip to Lake Charles this weekend and what a joy to see Daniel have over 300 yds of total offense in leading his team to the confy 'ship!!

Doc will be checking in later with photos and there are some GREAT ones... He captured an incredible image of one of the best catches I've seen a collegiate athlete make.

 :ksu:

Nice to see you again, Bookie.

I'll post some photos later but they did put up some video highlights on Youtube.   Both great catches are on there.  Plus, Daniel's long TD run.

As mentioned earlier, the team made the 8+ hour bus ride to Abilene, didn't play very well, had 5 turnovers and still came away with a 15-13 victory.   Offense had a bad game but the defense and special teams saved the day.

Not too many Daniel highlights but he did score our only TD of the game.

Biggest game of the year coming up this Saturday.   We definitely need to play better.

#7 ranked Pokes win 15-13 to move to 8-0 on the season.

Survive & advance.

 :emawkid:

ONE of our worst games of the season but it was a W, so I will take it.

Making the long drive back home from Abilene now.

If we don't play better next week,  we will get crushed.

We're they donations from Texas HS football teams 20 years ago?

They might have been using older balls rather than newer ones because it was drizzling rain the whole game and old ones may not be as slick as new ones.

Doc
I'm just being a dork, doc. Nice job as always.

No problem.   I've been around this board enough to know not to take offense of any comments.

I never paid attention to the footballs until you said something.   I looked at some of the photos of previous home games and the balls used Saturday were definitely older looking than the ones at the home games before.   So, that is my theory.  Used older balls that were less slippery in the wet conditions instead of newer more slippery balls.

Okay, Daniel had a great game as the Cowboys improved their record to 7-0.  Daniel threw for 242 yards and 3 TD's.  He had 1 int but that was on a Hail Mary type pass right before halftime.   He ran for 115 yards and 2 TD's.

We play in Abilene this Saturday at 2:30.   Game can be seen streamed on the Southland website.   And then the big game with Sam Houston St probably for the SLC Championship at 6 PM on Sept 7th on ESPN3.

Now, for some photos.

Good luck with the Thursday night game next week with Baylor.

Geeze, the way the K-State season is going downhill fast, I don't know if it is a good idea to post much about ours.

Quite the crowd of fans hanging out at the game.  :surprised:

That was at UCA on their ugly turf.   Their fans bailed when Daniel scored that last TD.

Likewise... we literally JUST reserved a paid in full, non refundable room in Lake Charles for the Nov. 7 game this afternoon.

That must mean the trip is a go????

13/30 for 137 yards... They're secondary must have been solid!

Yes.   4 FBS transfers, two from LSU, 1 from Tulane, and 1 from somewhere else.   One is projected to go very high in the NFL draft.   Plus, with the good secondary coverage, they like to bring the house when rushing the passer.   Daniel did a good job of getting out of the pocket and throwing the ball away about 6 times avoiding sacks.   He did get sacked twice.   They have a pretty good defense.

Bump for a Daniel and McNeese update for whoever is interested.

Big win last Saturday against Southeastern La. and their zillion and one FBS transfers.    Defensive battle with McNeese coming out on top 21-7.  I'm beginning to believe that our defense is for real.  We are ranked No. 1 in total defense and scoring defense in the FCS.

Daniel had a good game considering how tough the SLU defense was.

Hope you guys have better luck against Oklahoma than you did against Okla. St. and TCU.   I think the Sooners are going to be a little pissed after the Texas game.

Good luck,
Doc

Why does McNeese State hate highlights of their games so much?

Whole game replay is on ESPN3 if you have time.

Is it safe to post here this week?????    Daniel and the Cowboys did good and Daniel sat out the 4th quarter.    So, Daniel photos???

Easy games out of the way, schedule gets exponentially tougher next week.

Doc
Omg, yes, post them!

Okay, let there be Daniel photos.  ;)

This one is not Daniel, but Daniel was on the other end of this perfectly thrown 40 yard TD pass.   Ball was thrown probably close to 50 yards in the air.

Doc does mcneese play an SEC team at the end of the year in that weird week they all do that?

No, our game was with LSU to open the season.   Or it was supposed to be before mother nature stepped in and said no.   We played 5 minutes and then the game was stopped because of lightning.   Was cancelled due to continuous lightning and thunder after we sat around for 4 hours.

Hey, but we held LSU scoreless for 4 hours and shut down Fournette for only 7 yards.   We did make them punt after they ran 5 plays.   That was better than Auburn did.   I think Fournette went about 70+ yards on the first or second play against Auburn.   ;)
