So, on my last trip to Chicago, they were using sniffing dogs at MCI security... usually a 10-minute process.  The dog sniffs you, and then it's a straight shot thru security, no unpacking or undressing. This morning, the dog indicated I was a POI... the TSA guy asks me to step out of line and then gets on the radio... I got a POI. We have one POI.

50 minutes later, I missed my flight.  The TSA says i was randomly selected, and then the next guy says the dog indicated there was an issue... 30 questions, used chemicals recently, shot a gun recently, worked outside.  Then the screening line is understaffed, and they have a backup.  XRay guy drops my laptop moving it off the belt to the inspection area. You have the TSA guy who is in charge... walking around with a lot of purpose... on his radio... moving tubs, but no one is getting screened.  Then they move half of us to another line... finally, they get to my stuff, hand inspect backpack, swab shoes and back pack... send me on my way.

The one thing I would have agreed with Trump on was disbanding the TSA. They're so bad. In one test, 67 of 70 test subjects bringing firearms onto flights succeeded. And it's like a trillion dollars in taxes. And then they do crap like this to people like Tom.
I guess the delay is part of the process?  See who gets nervous or acts suspicious. Thats giving TSA too much credit probably.  I think this dog got a whiff of Tater, and just wanted to ef with it's owner.

Tater would have had a better percentage no one declared a POI was detained during my run thru their gauntlet.

I will be honest I don't know how you do tournaments every weekend.  I think we did 3 tournaments one summer, league, league tournament, fall ball.  Played maybe 45 games?

I coached a team after the boys were in high school... it was "rec" for all intents and purposes, but did a couple A level tournaments.  We picked up a couple kids who were burnt out on the highly competitive stuff, and just wanted to play. It was fun.

Even less talented levels can be competitive, approached seriously.

Attended a wedding this evening.  Took third in the anniversary dance at 39 years.  Second was 48 years, first place couple have clocked 54 years.

They asked the husband how you manage to be married 54 years.  He said, "Stay alive. "

thanks Tom for unlocking a new fear as a parent
I didn't mean to do that.  I am usually the information laggard, so I didn't think this would suprise the goEMAW parent population.

I just recalled reading an article specific to cancer cases in soccer goal keepers, and thought it was worth mentioning.

Any fear that your kids will get cancer having played their entire youth sports careers on field turf?

Ive seen a few stories where that claim was made by soccer players...

I think both boys played 1-2 high school football games on natural grass in 4 years.  ODAC and Leavenworth. Those both may be turf now.

SOGO... highlight of my football career was playing at Moore Bowl in Topeka... a college field with nice grass!  Whipped some Trojan ass that night, 28-0.

i think it could be a fossil from a dinosaur.  to my untrained eye, it appears to be a dinosaur hand.

as far as i know, there were many dinosaurs that lived throughout the great plains and i think whatever piece of history that Tom has uncovered proves that point.
Did have a couple fossil hunters from KU inquire about our flint hills pastures a couple decades ago.  That was under water in prehistoric times, and they were searching for some salamander type creature that inhabited the shoreline.   Took them out a couple times to excavate a couple small areas. #1 got out of school to go along.

I was hoping we would uncover something big.  I was planning on bending KU over for millions to house the T(om) Rex.

This looks like it may be a broken off tiller tine arm, a shank, or part of a clevis assembly from a larger piece of tillage equipment (like a cultivator or chisel plow) that was either broken or shorn off and then fashioned into a hoe-hammer hybrid, or a maul head.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tappet

This is the path I am going down.  Doesn't appear to be broken off, but that one end definitely not square.

Unearthed this thing in the old barn yard.  Any ideas on what this is?  I tried to buff the name on it, but can't make it out.

Theae articles are always frustrating.    Not going to crap on MJs dream, but maybe start with 5-10 acres.  You can grow a lot of table food ... pick up trucks full of vegetables while you wait on the fruit and nut trees to produce.

I learned I am part of the land gentry.

Did you know chainsaw chains have to face a certain way?

So I've been chainsawing firewood at the cat ranch for a couple of years since I got a fancy Stihl Farm boss but a couple of months ago when I was out there the chain slipped for the first time (I was cutting at some weird elevated angle trying to prune an ancient apple tree) and I just stopped cutting wood for the day.

Yesterday comes and I take the chainsaw apart and put the chain back on the chainsaw and start attempting to cut some down some ewe(yew?) bushes here in KC and the I was getting nowhere. Like the chainsaw was running full steam but nothing was happening when I put it to the wood.

This went on for a couple of minutes before I realized something was not right and started thinking....Eventually I realized the chain may be on backwards, took it off, flipped it and it worked.

Felt like a huge dumbass afterwards but I cut those ewe(yews?) down in seconds after flipping the chain and then spent an hour digging out the stupid rootballs.
You're not alone, ben ji.  I would add wrapping trimmer chord on the wrong way.  Apparently, the arrows on the disc are there for a reason.

The fox family is enjoying the neighbors new deck next door.  Momma fox watched from the bushes while builders finished the deck then moved back into her den underneath to have her babies.  She just trotted across the cul de sac for her evening hunt.
