Kansas State Basketball is hard / Re: Other NCAA Tourny Games Thread

All those losses were to double digit seeds. That was the note about Georgetown.

also, I'm pulling for ISU the rest of the way.

ISU is the Big 12's only hope. Who knew?

Cyclones fans like myself?  I kid, I kid.

ISU got a very good draw for us in Notre Dame.  We will not fare so well against OSU.

Oklahoma State got a terrible draw and you guys just had a tough half.  Was pulling for you to finish the comeback.  Best of luck next year (except for two games)

Well, the coaches picked Hoiberg's squad to be 8th in the Big 12 at the start of the year.  Should he finish top three, I think he gets it if the vote comes from the same coaches.  The only caveat would be if someone knock off KU for the conference title, that would trump Hoiberg.  ISU has not won on the road, but we have not played poorly on the road.  Last second three against KU sends it to OT.  Had a 4 point lead at OSU with a minute and a half left.  The only clunker was the Tech game, but that game saw ISU have two of their best players saddled with fouls and nearly every other player have one of their worst games of the year.  If only one would have been above average, ISU would have won.  And with all that, we lost by five whole points.  But the fact remains, have to win some road games.
It means, if one of our players had played above his season average for points/rebounds, ISU would likely have won, but nearly every player shot worse, rebounded less and scored less than what they had all year.  Would have only taken one above average performance to make a difference IMO.

And I am not trying to convince anyone ISU is better than what they are, just responding to the person's comments that ISU has played terrible on the road.  We have only once played terrible on the road, we just haven't been able to win the close ones.  We played very well at OSU and KU, just not good enough.  The Tech game is the only real clunker.
Yeah, and if K-State was "above average" (whatever that means) we beat you in Ames. Plus our PG was "saddled with fouls" and only played 18 minutes. It happens on the road. You are who you are, and when you rely on the 3 as much as ISU does games like Tech are going to happen. That said, ISU is a solid, NCAA team and if ISU finishes top 3 Hoiberg will get strong consideration for COY.

to qualify for coach of the year consideration, you actually have to do some coaching.  it's this minor detail that will exclude hoiberg from being mentioned in coy discussions.

Must be why he shared that honor last year huh?
