LHC Bill Snyder Didn't Accuse Auburn of Stealing Signals
http://www.bringonthecats.com/2014/9/19/6560333/bill-snyder-didnt-accuse-auburn-of-stealing-signals

Leave it to the media to completely twist the words that were actually said:

Quote
Here is video of ESPN sideline reporter Samantha Ponder relaying what LHC Bill Snyder told her at halftime. Ponder's direct quote is below:

"They're getting our signals, we've gotta do a better job disguising them."

Not "they're stealing our signals." Not "stealing signals is bad or unfair."

Of course, ESPN and our own mothership can't get clicks from you by saying "LHC Bill Snyder said K-State had to do a better job disguising its signals because Auburn figured them out." Instead, they went with headlines like this: "LHC Bill Snyder says Auburn is stealing Kansas State's signals"

I work on campus in a place that has a predictable volume of students at certain times of day.  There are far fewer students here this morning than we have been seeing virtually every day this year.  I suspect many students are already lining up at the student gates in order to be able to get seats in the stadium instead of the SRO grass hill.

If you are near the stadium or drive by on Kimball, keep us posted what's going on.

Can you not just answer a simple question?

Legendary Head Coach seems the most likely could be mistaken tho.

This.  Legendary Head Coach.

What time and where?  By the statue?  I need to change clothes and leave work early.  It's a hike from main campus parking lots to the stadium.  :)

I talked to the auburn fans in the RV and they had no idea about  the game and were actually camped out here to be first in line for the opening of the new Dunkin Donuts.

Interesting, most of us prefer crispy creme. You guys must not have one.

Why is it roll DAMN eagle and also roll DAMN tide?

Its War DAMN eagle not roll DAMN eagle

Why you both throw damn into your two word cheers?

Because those 5 and 6 letter words are too hard to remember.  They used up their 5 letter word quota with eagle and tiger.

btw, they obviously have no clue how LHC Bill Snyder always speaks about an upcoming game with caution and humility.  Maybe they just don't grasp the concept of humility.

It sounds like our friends at Ft. Riley are greeting our visitors with a live fire exercise on the range.  How many visitors will be looking up at the sky wondering where the tornado is? [They obviously are convinced we have tornadoes move through every few weeks from the comments I've been seeing.]

Watsontiger98, you must have missed the http://goEMAW.com/forum/index.php?topic=32871.0  Visiting Manhattan for a game, give me the lowdown thread.  Purple Haze has a great list on page 5.  I added a link from a travel blogger later:

Kansas State Football / Re: Do we rush the field after defeating Auburn?
« on: September 16, 2014, 03:34:23 PM »
No, because we should act like we've been there before.  We beat USC and Oklahoma when we were given no chance at either game, and this one should be no different.

Sue, have you ever been to KC? I can show you around some time.

Yep, I grew up on the Kansas side of the metro area, but it has been 25+ years since I've lived there. I worked in Crown Center Pershing Buildings offices & another office a few blocks north of there for several years, so I'm used to the city commute. I rarely had anything that necessitated going to the neighborhoods east of downtown KCMO, though--I knew the Kansas side was the place to be.   :)

The KC airport is in Nebraska.  The Plaza is in Johnson County. You do the math.

Beats the crap outta me. I was just trying to be nice.....

Where are you going to from Manhattan where KCI is on the way? Amish Town, Missouri?

Tennessee.

I am driving through KC and thought that is where he is going.

Sigh.  KC is where Kat Kid said he is going. The Plaza is about 35 city blocks south of I-670, the direct route through KC MO.  It is pretty much on the way of where you will be driving through KC anyway. Yes, it is a slight detour, but not very far.

Ignore Fake Sugar.  The Plaza is just a few miles south of downtown KC Missouri.  It is a slight detour off of I-70, but not nearly as far as the airport is north of downtown.  Actually, I think Kat Kid's original post said the Plaza, not the airport.  It is a beautiful area that you might not see otherwise.  Also, the Plaza is not in Johnson County KS. The Country Club Plaza is very close to the NE corner of Johnson County, but the Plaza is on the Missouri side of the state line.  The state line literally runs through the middle of the greater Kansas City metropolitan area.

A word of advice for our visitors:  Manhattan KS has a law that any drivers talking on a cell phone must be using a hands free device.  Getting caught and cited for that phone up to your ear can cost you $150.00 or more.  Like many other states, texting while driving is illegal state-wide.

There are signs about the hands-free law within the city limits, but they are small, not real numerous, and easily missed.

This is a HUGE disappointment. Very little pre-game buzz

Honestly, it baffles me as to why you would schedule a game here, today of all days, so close to Ground Zero

It's getting pretty darned hectic around here.  I had to sit through 3 red light cycles while backed up from Tuttle Creek Blvd. to the traffic circle on 4th Street after work today.  It was awful!

http://collegeapps.about.com/od/GPA-SAT-ACT-Graphs/ss/auburn-university-admission-gpa-sat-act.htm

http://collegeapps.about.com/od/GPA-SAT-ACT-Graphs/ss/kansas-state-university-admissions-gpa-sat-act.htm

A big part of K-State's land grant mission from the inception of the university was to bring education to all of the people of Kansas.  The minimal admission standards for the first 150 years intentionally enabled individuals to be able to earn a college degree if they worked hard enough for it.  The first class in 1863 had 52 students:  26 men and 26 women.  Since this was in the midst of the Civil War, it was difficult for everyone to finish in four years, needless to say.  However, the first graduating class in 1867 was 2 men and 3 women.  Yep, women were the majority of the first graduating class at K-State.

The first male black graduate was in 1899.
The first female black graduate was in 1901.

I don't have the exact statistics and dates at my fingertips, but Kansas State was one of the few universities in America to admit blacks to the College of Veterinary Medicine. Until the Tuskegee School of Veterinary Medicine opened in the 1940's, K-State had graduated approximately 50% of the black veterinarians in the entire United States.  The history of the Tuskegee Vet school is rich with collaborations with and leadership of Kansas State graduates.

I have a feeling that many institutions with "higher standards" have a history filled with exclusions of females and minorities being denied admission simply because they weren't white males.

That is a great thing KSU has done in providing an opportunity to those that may otherwise not have been able to get. I think KSU is a great institution, I was responding  to multiple posts suggesting that all Alabamians and Auburn alum were stupid.

I never took your previous remarks to be directed to me, so no sweat.  I think it's silly to paint all fans of a different school or all residents of a state as stupid, but I realize that lots of folks fall back on hyperbole.

Oh; I forgot something last night on the subject of the importance of high admission standards.  The more open standards haven't held K-State back in the area of scholarship and honors:

TOP SCHOLAR RANKINGS
 1986-2013
Public colleges and universities
state-supported schools

• Kansas State University is the only state-supported university since 1986
to rank among the Top 10 of all U.S. schools for the combined total number of
scholars in Rhodes, Marshall, Truman, Goldwater and Udall competitions.
• Among all 500 state universities, K-State ranks first nationally in Truman and
Goldwater and fourth in Udall scholarship competition since each foundation
began awarding scholarships. K-State ties for second in Rhodes and ties for
fourth in Marshall competition since 1986.
• Among all of the 2,000 four-year colleges and universities in America -- 500
public; 1,500 private -- K-State is fourth nationally in the number of Goldwater
scholarships awarded, ranks seventh in Truman and Udall competitions.
• The Truman Foundation recognized K-State in 1996 as a Truman Scholarship
Honor Institution, the first time the Foundation singled out universities for their
achievements in Truman competition. At that time, only 17 schools were chosen
from the 454 colleges and universities which have produced Truman scholars

Aside from all of the fun we like to have here, I am genuinely interested in meeting up with some Auburn fans pregame, halftime, and at the end of the game. If someone knows how I can make this happen, post here or shoot me a pm.

I will be at the game and am coming solo so my tailgate will be a little boring. Besides, you can't technically tailgate with a hatchback. I am open to suggestions. Unless things change, I will probably drive in early Thursday (9 hour drive) and take a short nap before the game.

Only 9 hours?  Are you driving from Alabama?  I thought it was a much longer drive than that--at least going not too much over the speed limit and taking a couple of pit stops along the way.

I live in the Memphis area.

Ah.  That makes more sense.  Our son's family lives 90 miles south of Atlanta and we have to make it a two day drive.

Ticket purchased section 20. Ready to witness another beat down by Auburn.
 :buh-bye:

Well, in section 20 you are going to be very near the Auburn allotment.  However, you are dangerously close to danger zone danger.  Section 22 is basically a giant group of angry adult alcoholics who stand for the entire game.  Section 23 is the start of the student section, a student section which may be the largest in the Big 12 (country?).  On the upside there is a kettle corn vendor immediately at the top of the stairs.  Also, you can leave at the half to go crush beers in the parking lot, and they let you back in....not everywhere does this, so prepare accordingly.

I didn't see the kettle corn tent at the first game.  I was really surprised it wasn't where it normally sets up.  Did they move it?

Freddy's Frozen chicken nuggets: A Unique Manhattan Experience. Gotta love MHK and its fetish for chain restaurants. Be sure to check out Chick Fil-A, but be prepared for a wait.

I noticed the word c u s t a r d automatically has 'chicken nuggets' substituted for it, so that's why my text has a typo.  Mods, can this be fixed?  Or do we get a prize for figuring out what happens?

Bushwhackers is now called Dirty Dongs. Dead serious. Its a little more country and a little less stabby but still basically the same.

I'm not surprised at the inspiring name change. It's always been a dump and works hard to maintain the stabby reputation.
