Kansas State Football / Re: Holiday Bowl

Memphis seems just "okay" in a blue collar kind of way.  Can speak definitively about San Diego and know it extremely wel - there just isn't a comparison.  San Diego has a ridic amount of nightclubs and rooftop bars in the Gaslamp District, and tons of more laid back beach bars in Pacific Beach.  La Jolla up north a few min or Coronado Island are a little more high-end/refined; and there's no shortage of stuff for families that don't want the bar/club scene.

Losing the Dallas/Cotton and San Diego/Holiday sucks all around and a trip to Memphis doesn't come close.

I'm 34, been season ticket holder for years along with the parents, aunt/uncle, we still have the same seats in section 5 from when the stadium 1st opened back in the 60's through my late grandparents.  Definitely cheered louder when Willie was on the Dev. Wasn't at that 'famous' game due to a commitment while in the Marines, but knew the significance.

Other loud games and comment on shivvycats comment:

1) Obviously the 4OT win last year against the aTm conference quitters.
2) Brandon Archer INT for a TD to give K-State the go-ahead score when Snyder first retired, last game, against Mizzou and Finkel.  I think we won that like 36-34 or something.
3) The game against USC in '02.  Had to google it to remember if it was 01 or 02, but it was the game Newman returned a blocked field goal or PAT.  That USC team had a ton of future NFLers.
4) KState 45-42 over Texas...it was RP's either 1st or 2nd year, I forget, but do remember how cold it was that night.  Stadium was loud that night.

student section etc:
Does anyone else agree/acknowledge the psychology of fandom and that fans have to "learn how to win" and what's expected, just like players/teams have to 'learn to win'???

Sometimes when a program is "down," kids/students (not hating here, just opining) don't quite know how to act in terms of getting loud when the opposing team has the ball.  Just something I've observed last few years watching the program fall/rise.  We don't have decade after decade of tradition like some programs in that respect and I think there is some truth to this.

I'm guilty of going out and having a beer or so at the half but I'm always back in my seat in section 19, or with my dad in section 5 for the 3rd qtr.

Kansas State Football / Re: Fiesta Bowl Travel Thread
« on: December 02, 2012, 11:36:00 PM »
Between the proximity of the game to NYE/holidays, and the fact that lots of people winter in the PHX area, flights are expensive and already selling out fast.  I traveled 150 days/year last six years or so, trust me; if you plan to fly to the Fiesta Bowl, book ASAP.  southwest.com is already sold out on 12/31 and 1/1 for their "wanna get away" fares.  I booked 4 tickets today and we're going MCI-TUS (Tuscon).  R/T airfare from MCI-PHX was in the $800-900 range, and the options weren't great (early departures, multiple connections etc).

K-Staters in southern KS looking for alternative air options should check out SW Air out of Will Rogers Intl (OKC).  Can get into Tucson cheaper that way than Phoenix.

Tucson just over a 90 minute drive, not bad.

Anybody here where the pep rally and official University pre-game will be yet?

Been following this site since right when the season started...can't get enough K-State Football and have enjoyed reading the blog posts and banter in the comments from those that post frequently.

My boy is 3 years old. Actually about 3 1/2 now.  He missed maybe 2 games as a six month old in the '09 season, maybe a game in '10 and a game in the '11 season.  This year he's made every game this year and been my wingman in our seats, while my wife hasn't gone at all.

My family (parents, aunts/uncles/cousin) etc are all season ticket holders as well so its easy for us to pass Braxton around to my mom or aunt to watch him.  The wife would take him out to our tailgate when he was 1 or 2 if he got burned out...However -- this year he is totally into it.  He does the K-State "First Down" cheer and loves the band and all the action.  As a 3-year old I bet he knows more about football than my wife.

Anyway, I bet your 4-year old would have fun at the game; and if you live in Lawrence, you need to get him inoculated into K-State culture as much as possible to stave off the local influences from living in Larryville.
