Yeah, it was weird. You would know better than me, but I thought his first 3 years or so his teams were really fun to watch. Played ridiculous in your face defense and suffocated people. What the heck happened to him? He was seriously my #1 choice before I realized Weiser was going to give Huggins a chance back in 06.
He lost Jamal Tatum and Tony Young. Those two guys bailed out Lowery's "commotion" offensive with clutch 3's all the way through the Sweet 16 run, and almost beat KU that year.
I think what people underestimate in the Southern Illinois stats for Weber was that Matt Painter was a hell of a coach.

Lowry's demise is similar to Weber's, but much worse. His first few years his teams forced TOs like crazy averaging nearly 25% TO rate. Shooting against them was poor, but they sent teams to the FT line a lot. Offense was pretty average all around, but they scored enough to win. Then the last few years they quit forcing TOs and this year they had one of the worst eFG% defenses in the country. All the while they kept fouling, a lot while getting worse on offense.

I do have to clear up one more thing. Lowery was not a good x's and o's coach.

KState didn't just get Weber (Bubbles). This is a package deal. KState also will be receiving Jay Price and Pimp Daddy McClain. And hopefully, Bubbles prized recruiting class.
And Chris Lowery if Jerrace Howard takes a different assisstant job or stays at Illinois.

Frank Martin did that in 2009-2010
Beat UNLV by 15 points and lost to KU in overtime by 2. Although KU was ranked 2 in the nation...he did beat the number one team earlier in that month. Research, clown. RESEARCH.
Read, clown, READ. Did Frank Martin have to deal with opponents unethically stealing committed recruits? Did he have to deal with toxic negative fans? Did he have to deal with fat lazy unmotivated players? Did he have to deal with a cancerous recruit like Richmond? Or losing his best player to a broken hand?
oscar Weber has shown he can win at the highest levels when he isn't saddled with the negativity of a delusional fan base and he doesn't have to deal with unfortunate incidents one after the other.
In 2006, he had the verbal of Eric Gordon, he was one year removed from the championship game, and then the refs stole the Washington game, Gordon decommits due to the shady practices of Sampson, Jamar Smith becomes an alcoholic, Frazier breaks his hand, McCamey is a lazy player, and Jereme Richmond ends up a disaster.
How many coaches could come through that and still take a team to the NCAA, beat UNLV like a drum, and hang with #1 Kansas? Very few, if any.
Then of course, this year, Mike Thomas the AD has to throw Weber under the bus mid season which then tanked the year. 15-3 at one point, first place in the Big Ten at one point, then Thomas has to go on the radio and show no confidence in Weber, and the wheels fell off at that point.
You guys are going to be eating crow after a great season and great recruiting haul by Weber.
