Thought you might like to borrow some of these. Best of luck, you'll need it. I'm sure someone with some photoshop skills can update these.

Thanks rake. I've outlined my concerns for Weber, but I don't think he's terrible. I'm warming to him and I will certainly support him.

I agree that his biggest issues are fixing the problems he had at Illinois. IMHO the two main problems were:

1) Why/how did you lose last year's very talented team at Illinois? Specifically your defense, which is what you hang your hat on. It became terrible, giving up 1.07 points per possession over the final 14 games, which is pathetic by any standard. Especially when your team showed that they could play defense well through the first 18 games at .92 PPP.

2) What do you plan to change on offense? It became clear as your tenure at Illinois continued that your offense wasn't working. Gasaway explains those problems very well in this article. Your offense certainly didn't compliment your defense, which was very good your entire time there besides those last 14 games. Even in the sub .500 season of 2008 your defense was solid at .90 PPP. But too often your teams simply couldn't score efficiently enough.

Those weren't his only problems at Illinois and a few of his problems are irreperibile. POS has been a dork all his life and is a disaster in front of a microphone. He should have time to reflect on what went wrong and possibly correct some issues, but he's just like nails on a chalkboard in front of the media.

Good Luck. He had my vote as worst coach in school history after 7 years. The next 2 made it a runaway and that was before he and his surrogates took shots at the AD on the way out.

Enjoy the chicken nuggets.

A take on the article from a respected Illini Blogger

Your AD says he will evaluate your performance at the end of the season.

How does this equate to your season going into the shitter?  WTF?

One of the worst pieces of revisionist history I've ever read. Seems he's not content with still landing another gig, he's unwilling to own up to his last one. Good luck, the man has more excuses than Doan's has pills. Weeks after the fact when most of us haterz are well past ready to turn the page, he still can't shut up and move on. I'd like to think that you guys would have better luck with him, but it's tough to learn from your mistakes when you did nothing wrong.

Okay, there was a downward trend his last four years at Illinois.  But Wooly and Asbury never put up numbers at KSU like Weber's last four years at Illinois (all with his own players):

24-10 (11-7)
21-15 (10-8)
20-14 (9-9)
17-15 (6-12)

And this run came after a down fifth-year at Illinois (16-19 record).  So, Weber built these Illinois teams himself.  He also built an NCAA-tournament program out of dogshit at SIU.  Don't really see why people are predicting doom.

First off, let me state that I don't feel extremely comfortable trolling other schools MBs, but I feel some kinship shared here in that we had a AD that we despised that we finally got rid of and a coach (oscar Weber) that we couldn't get rid of quick enough. I love this site, it's awesome. Say the word and I'm gone, but it's been a slow weekend on the home front, so the Weber to KSU story was pretty much the topic of the weekend.

I for the last 3 or 4 years, I came to be one of Weber's biggest haters. Not only did he drive my beloved program straight off the cliff, but everytime I'd see that ugly mug or hear that fingernails on the chalkboard voice whining his shtick, I'd go ballistic. That said, it'd be just like that @sshat to figure out how to coach after we dumped a wheelbarrow full of cash in his lap and sent him packing. It will still be one of the happiest days of my life when I hear that moving van is heading south on I-57.

I just wanted to share some perspective surrounding the numbers. I'm not going to drag out the raw numbers, so If I'm off slightly, don't crucify me. The tops of the class the last 5-6 years in the big 10 has been OSU, Wisky and MSU with Purdue being up there largely on the strength of one recruiting class and solid coaching. This has left Illinois in about the 5th spot. Not terrible unless you look further. Most of this was a time when IU was in the toilet (lapped us already) , Michigan was off the tracks (flying past us), Iowa was a complete joke (McCaffery seems to have righted the ship) and Tubby @ Minny had issues popping up all over keeping them in the stone ages. This was also the recovery of recruiting during the Weber era (Jerrance Howard getting a lot of credit for the resurgence). Signed three nationally ranked classes in a row and the results got worse not better. We had to pull a 5th yr. PG from Bradley with a bad set of wheels to run the show this season and a bench full of what was considered at one time top talent has gotten little opportunity on the floor and little in the way of help on the immediate horizon with a rather bland recruiting class signed. An 8th (or was it 9th) finish this season, probably losing the only NBA player Weber signed to the draft shortly, it's was looking like bottom half of the big 10 for at least the next few years. It made it a no brainer that Weber had to go finally although there is still a very vocal minority that thinks that clown is the cat's meow (sorry, I couldn't resist).

All in all, the guy is to damn stubborn for me to think he'll approach anything differently at KSU, but as I stated above, the way he's effed us since he been here, if he finally figured it out when he left, it wouldn't surprise me in the least. The guy was a curse on our program. Best of luck going forward and somebody gets the banner flying above the home opener FB, give me the pay pal info and I'll chip in $5. If our AD was trying to shove "oscar the Excuse" or equivalent up our @ss, I have a feeling that some of you would step up to the plate. Guy like that doesn't deserve to be employed.

so there you go, kansas state just hired the only person to ever get fired from coaching basketball at the university of illinois over performance based reasons and illinois was willing to pay over 3 million to do it. good job cats.

Harv Schmidt was sacked for performance, mid 70's. Weber put us through 6 years we hadn't seen since the Schmidt era.

Kansas State Basketball is hard / Re: Chris Lowery

disappointing.  Hope that means no McClain though.  That guy sounds like a waste of space.  Price is listed as the lead recruiter for Hill...don't know if that means anything or not, but I would assume Price is coming, and the third guys will be "K-State ties" guy.    :flush:

I'd be shocked if McClain followed. I'd guess Jerrance Howard will pursue other opportunities. If Lowery is not an April Fool's joke, that probably means Price and Lowery for sure. I don't know much about Lowery, but I think this is giving you some insight on the way Weber operates and what he's learned in his failures at Illinois. Not a effing thing.

Contrast this to our new Head Coach, John Groce:
Quote
--- Asked about whether he’d consider hiring a high school coach such as Simeon’s Robert Smith as an assistant, Groce didn’t tip his hand. But he did say he’d be open to anyone who gives Illinois the best chance to win games.

“I’m open to putting the best staff together that we can put together. I’m going to turn over every stone,” Groce said. “So we’re going to do our due diligence there.”

oscar Weber may mow his own grass, but he only knows of one stone and he hasn't found anything under that one stone in at least 9 years. I hate to say it, but after overseeing the worse 6 year period in Illinois BB since the early 70's, it appears that clown is not going to change a effing thing.

OrangeKrush117 at IlliniHQ forums, denies this is him (purplekrush117). Knowing him pretty well, this would be something he would readily admit to. Ok, based on his posting history, someone of his ilk spoofed his name, perhaps one of many sycophants at Scout or one a the few others at IlliniHQ or perhaps Jay Price himself. There are only so many ways that you can spin a program getting driven straight into the ground as some form of success. I suspect you just inherited about 50 or 100 of these fans in the last 24 hours. They're probably sporting purple thongs today and probably out shopping for purple ties for their oscar Weber blow up dolls.

Not that I wish it on an already suffering fan base, but it would be nice to think your gain of these Weber-fans would be our loss. No, It doesn't work that way with these losers. They'll also be hanging around Illini Nation openly rooting for John Groce to fail in order to prop up their hero, "oscar the Excuse". Maybe Weber learned from his many failures here, but after 9 years of Weberball, good luck on that one. I can hear the excuses being prepared as I type, fan negativity, KSU being hard to recruit to, players not buying in, etc, etc, etc. oscar Weber will be a victim there, nothing's his fault.

Anyway, best of luck moving forward. The more Weber opens his trap, the more you'll want to claw your eyes out. Wasn't Doc Sadler available at least? If your going after a retread, at least get a likeable one with some possible upside.

Anyone who watched that press conference should wonder if Weber was auditioning to play Jed Clampett in the revision of "Beverly Hillbillies".

Funny you should mention it

PurpleKrush is a notorious WFF (Weber First Fan) from the Illini HQ forum. Do not think the Scout Board or OrangeKrush117 are representative of Illini Nation.

Weber has good intentions, but is just bad at it. He's a whiner, not a leader. He plays the victim instead of overcoming challenges. He couldn't fill Self's shoes and I certainly can't see him filling Martin's. His recruiting was all over the map, usually a year behind the curve. JMHO, but this is possibly the worst job he could have landed. This is a similar situation to Illinois. Taking over from a popular coach that bolted. He wasn't that impressive a hire at Illinois, but most gave him more than a fair chance. He's already off on the wrong foot here and I can't picture this ending pretty.

I wouldn't wish Weber on anyone. KSU fans are going to hate his brutal honesty. You'll probably need plenty of this

I've been screaming my head off for 3 years to get rid of that loser. What is your AD f'n thinking?  Who knows, maybe you'll have better success with him than we did, but I wouldn't bet a dime on it. I'll be glad to see that moving van heading south out of town, but I very much feel your pain. Best of Luck, but I just instantly became a Kansas fan (Never had hard feeling towards Self). Coach Programkiller ought to be in prison for fraud.
