Valet son

Yeah yeah. Put it this way then: not a 7 minute walk from room to valet.

Grand Hyatt Kauai:

Yep can also confirm. It was awesome. That said, the wife and I both loved the Andaz Maui even more. It was had better views and wasn't a 10 minute walk to the car. Overall we liked Kauai more than Maui but the Andaz was OMG awesome.

Denver.

Anyone been to Amelia Island?

I was there for a couple days in January on business. Stayed at the Ritz. Wasn't really there long enough to form too may opinions other than the golf course kind of sucked, at least for what they charged. Nice hotel, beach was nice, but it was still January.

Heading to Hawaii for 10 days in exactly one month. Splitting time between Kauai and Maui. Staying at the Andaz at Wailea on Maui and splitting time at the Grand Hyatt and St. Regis on Kauai. Only thing I definitively have scheduled right now is a helo tour of Kauai. Likely will do bike down the volcano on Maui.

Open to any other thoughts or suggestions. Is snorkeling at Molokai worth it? If doing a helo tour on Kauai would a boat tour of Na Pali still be worthwhile? Food suggestions also welcomed.

Fire away...

Is there a way to get the SW card without paying a fee?   Also, how long do you have to wait between chase apps?

no. ~2 years but there are 4 different SW cards and you can get all 4 of them. also don't apply for one today because the 50k bonus is no longer open. they'll bring it back later this year though if they do what they've done in the past.

What's your gut feeling for time frame on this?

Probably 2-3 months.

I actually did two roasts. With one I followed the recipe sans japs so that those who didn't like spicy would be happy. The other I seeded half of the japs and also added some poblano and Anaheim. It had decent kick but was far from burn your face hot.  Both had good flavor and pleased the masses.

It should have been hotter.

I've only done it once for a tailgate last year but it was awesome. Used this recipe with a few alterations of my own. Highly recommend.

Are we sure SD is okay after the AA devaluation today? Ouch, this one stings. No notice at all.

A couple random things from this episode:

1. When Walt's pushing the barrel in the desert, he passes the pair of pants he lost in the pilot.
2. When Jesse and Walt steal a barrel of some chemical they need in the first season, Hank and Gomie are watching the video. When they start to carry off the barrel, one of them says "it's a barrel, it rolls, stupid".
3. When they go to the fire station they are playing chess. It shows a king with a few pawns around it. It looks as if the king is about to be "checkmated" for lack of a better term.
4. Jesse throughout this series has been compared to a dog. A "problem dog" and "rabid dog" are episode titles involving him. At the end of the episode when Walt is in the car, a stray dog crosses the street.

Oh man, the pants! When he passed them, I was all, "what the heck was that?" And then I forgot about it. That's awesome.

well i'm 95% sure i overtrimmed, which led to me leaving it on the smoker too long. Plus i had the fire too hot. Oh well live and learn. Flat is currently resting in a cooler. We'll see how bad the damage is. :(

I couldn't really cube the burnt ends like i wanted...but they still taste good.

Yeah that looks pretty good.  Looks like how I do my burnt ends. I separate the point when the flat is done, rerub and then put it back on the smoker for 4-6 hours @ 225-250°. Let it rest and then cube it as best as possible. Works fine if you have a sharp knife but its definitely fall apart tender at that point.

Doing a peppered beef chuck roast with onions peppers and jalapeños to make sliders for the tailgate this weekend. I'm excited, its a simple recipe but I've never tried it before. Will post pics after the weekend.

Why wouldn't you cancel a Chase card before the annual fee?
I'm not saying you shouldn't cancel a card before the annual fee, just don't cancel it outright.  always apply for a new card and have that credit transferred.  once you've canceled a card outright you've given up that available credit and they have to decide whether or not to give it back to you.  if you just keep transferring it you'll never lose it.  chase is never going to just reduce your credit available (unless you're a huge dumbass) so why do it for them?

Let's say I have 4 chase cards with a $5k limit ($20k total). I cancel one, now I have $15k of credit w/ Chase. If I try to open a new one w/ a 5k limit and my income/overall credit didn't change, why wouldn't they do it?

they would
yes they most likely would...assuming your overall credit didn't change and they didn't change their credit issuing policies in any way.  buy why take that chance unless you've just run out of chase cards to apply for?  I prefer not to give back any credit that's already been given to me because then I'm leaving it up to them as to whether or not to give it to me again at some point.  if I never cancel a card outright then they never have to increase my credit line so they never have to decide to take on more risk with me.  it gives them very little incentive not to give me the new card.  do whatever you want though.

You can cancel a card and transfer the credit at the same time. I've canceled a number of chase cards to avoid the fees. When I cancel I just have them transfer the credit to other open chase cards. Just another option if you don't have other chase cards you want to apply for at the moment.

Essentially Flyertalk / Fairway, KS: Wal-Mart shoppers do not live here
« on: August 22, 2013, 03:25:50 PM »

also, this guy didn't just say this. this guy wrote it down and passed it out to Fairway residents.
The is a shot of what appears to be a 4 paragraph letter (single spaced, 12 pt Times New Roman most likely) in this video on Fox 4's website
http://fox4kc.com/2013/08/20/mans-description-of-walmart-customers-offends-some-residents/

A number of the less enlightened residents of the area call the current Wal Mart "Mexi Mart" in addition to calling the adjacent Price Chopper "Mexi Chopper"; I would love to find an image of the the letter to see if/how the author the managed to tip toed around using that verbiage.

I have heard it referred to as the "Wal-Martinez".

I've also heard that Price Chopper is fantastic.  Legend has it that they stock different stuff there than other Price Choppers, and it's amazing.  But I've never been, so I can't confirm.

Double confirmed.  That PC is amazing.

Quick question...if I add my wife as an authorized user on a card, will it be hard inquiry on her credit report (or vice versa)? I think the answer is typically no, but I'm asking in reference to the SPG AmEx. As I'm applying, the app asks for the SSN of the authorized 2nd user. That's the part that worries me. Insight/experience appreciated.

I think i mumped up, i got the southwest personal  and biz and now i need 10k more for the companion pass , if i wait until january to get to110 k can use companion pass all of 2013?

Nope, companion pass is a calendar year deal. You wait til January, you'll be even more effed as your 100k points will not count for the CP anymore.

Just canceled my chase sapphire preferred, after I cancel a card I usually throw it in my shredder, tried to do it with the sapphire, not happening.

Shredder: 0
Chase sapphire preferred: 1

Which brings up the question, what us the proper method of disposal of the Chase Sapphire Preferred? I'll be canceling mine or my wife's soon. How do I keep it out of the hands of criminals?  :ohno:

Just called to cancel my United Mileage Plus card and was given 10k United miles to keep it  :horrorsurprise:

 :excited:

Suck. I called and cancelled my Marriott and SW cards in the last week +. No offers of miles or points to keep either card. Oh well, applied for 50+50 BA card and Hyatt card yesterday. All ahead full.

Trying to decide what will be next. Probably something AmEx so Chase can have a break. Hopefully SPG ups the bonus later this summer. It's either that or the Hilton AmEx.

Also, I will not be in Chicago in late August.  Felt it necessary to point that out as it seems I'll be the only one.
