Are you tired of constantly draining your balls at the arcade? Do you want to excel and realize your full potential? Then sign up for my pinball lessons!  As always, they are filling up fast.

Learn my patent-pending two finger tap technique. Let me put my hands on your hips and show you how to nudge with no tilts. I have two of the top 200 pinball machines of all time according to ipdb; Shaq Attaq and Hurricane, both set on only 25 cents a play (in addition to my hourly fee). That's cheap!

Please email me first with the best time to call and be sure you are by the phone.  I have to walk down to the Sirloin Stockade to use the pay phone there and I don't want to waist my money.

so its that time of year again. its cold and people aren't really going outside so i am starting up my pinball lessons again. last summer i was not able to offer lessons (my landlord Terry kicked me out).  for those who dont know i teach pinball and i teach it well. 60 dollars gets you one hour with a meal. I still have grade A machines all fully working. i will teach you so many techniques and maneuvers that will help you in my tournament in april. if you take lessons you have free entry in my tournament. as requested i am offering many different varyations for food. (I have an inside deal at Arbys now), but we can talk about that later. my aunt is my current roommate (my machines share a room with her barry gibb collection). so there are certain times when a lesson could be interrupted but i will make sure you get a full hour for sure. i am also looking to buy a couple more machines so if you have some i would be interested in talking. (I do also offer magic lessons....no package deals) contact me (carl) for any lessons of your interest. pinball slots will fill up as always.

i love tailgating at ku and alabama.  i usually just flip a coin each week, heads it's lawrence, tails it's tuscaloosa.  and off i go to tailgate my ass off.

my tailgate motto?  if you've never chugged brews from a hammer throw/discus cage, you really haven't tailgated.

We have a tailgate culture at KU.  Only difference between KU and Alabama is at Alabama, fans leave the tailgate to go watch the game at kick-off and don't return until the game is over.

Were you guys aware of how awesome KU's tailgate culture is?  On par with Alabama, and most certainly better than KSU I'm guessing.

Pondwater Jack was awesome.  I want him to come back and say hi.  I didn't know and can't believe he was actually banned.

KSU fan really needs to keep quite,, they don't know how bad they will be after Snyder retires in the next year or two. Having seasons like KU had this year was a normal thing for them for so long before Snyder.

And Mizzou doesn't know how the next coach will do after Pinkle,, so they should reserve judgment as well. The only thing they got going for them is that they have a 6 million pop state to themselves as the only P5 school and have never been able to take advantage of it.

KSU has absolutely nothing to offer other than "Well Snyder won here and we built a fancy new press box in our high school stadium!"

So, I'm sure there are a lot of frustrated ISU fans applauding the move, BUT this seems more like an emotional reaction than a logical one.  Iowa State has played a lot better since Mangino was dismissed.   If you started with a blank sheet of paper for all Big 12 teams, Iowa State KSU would be the most disadvantaged programs.   Any good coaching prospect would not even consider ISU.  As we have learned while it is easy to fire a coach, it is much more difficult to hire someone who will be an improvement of a known commodity.  The odds are that whoever replaces Rhodes will no elevate the program.  That is probably good for KU.
all of our shiny new facilities/fantastic fan support/daily flights in and out of MHK/record donations put us at a huge disadvantage
No, no you can't count any of that stuff.  He said if you start over with a blank sheet of paper for all teams.  So I guess the only factor being considered in that case is location in relation to recruiting hot spots and proximity to a major metropolitan area.  Nothing else matters.  That way they can feel better about themselves by having an inherent advantage over KSU.  It helps their psyche.

Essentially Flyertalk / Re: Things in Wichita that don't suck
« on: April 09, 2015, 08:41:46 AM »
You want to know what doesn't suck about Wichita?  The Lost Sock Laundromat at Pawnee and SE Blvd.  They've got 19 pinball machines in there, by far the most of any single location in the state of Kansas, including all of KC.  Most of the games are only 25 cents to play and they have a few classic arcade games in there as well.  Now while they have a ton of games in there, most are older machines.  I think 11 of them are from the late 70's and 80's, 7 are from the 90's, and only one from the 2000's.  But that's OK because the operator does a good job of maintaining them, and you simply don't see a lot of those older games on location anymore.  To find a larger selection of pinball machines, you would have to go to Cactus Jack's in Oklahoma City which is not a fair comparison because that place is easily the best arcade in a 1000-mile radius.  If you are not good at pinball, Lost Sock is a very good place to practice because the games are so cheap there.  The only thing that kind of sucks is that the whole place is carpeted, so you really can't slide the machines at all.  You just have to nudge in a more subtle way.

you know what game you shouldn't get? that big hurt/frank thomas one. that thing will haunt you in your sleep.

Being a pinball wizard, I have indeed mastered this game as well, and I could help you with it.  The only problem is that the closest one from here is located in Wichita.  (Well actually there is one in Newton as well, but it's out of order at the moment.)  I could give a discount on my travel fee if you wanted to meet down there.  The trick is to go for the home run and avoid that stupid glove waving back and forth.  It's kind of similar in that regard to my Wold Cup Soccer machine as there is a goalie who waves back and forth in front of the goal.  But WCS is a much better game overall.

Hello my name is Carl and I am offering up my pinball expertise for $50 dollars an hour.  I am currently ranked 163rd domestically and 538th internationally and I will teach you any technique you need to master as found here..... http://www.ipdb.org/playing/advanced.html I will also teach you my patent-pending breathing regimen.  For $50 you get an hour of extreme coaching at my place (no minors or unaccompanied women) (due to past issues with a liar named DGale.)  I have 6 top-quality machines that work 100%. Or I can come to your place ($25 travel fee) and help you master one of your games.  If I host I do offer a 10-minute break where I provide a sandwich with your choice from 3 deli meats and American cheese with a Shasta brand soda (the Pepsi products are for my son and me).  Slots are filling up, so email me soon to get in.  Thank you.

i will pay you ten dollars an hour for my boys and i to come over and play your machines. you don't have to teach/work with us and we get to byob.

Hmm, I don't know if I have any openings available at that rate.  I'm already getting booked up.  But in all seriousness if you are looking for a good place to play in Manhattan you gotta check out Motorcycle Supply at 307 Ft. Riley Blvd.  They have 5 games:

i tell you what- you get midevil madness and i'm willing to go up to $12.50/hour but we get to also use your bathroom.

There is no question Medieval Madness is a great game.  So great, in fact, that it is currently being remade by Stern 18 years after the original release.  Unfortunately I don't have an extra $8,000 - $9,000 lying around to buy a new one.  But here are some games on my current wishlist that I may be getting in the not-too-distant future:

Indiana Jones: The Pinball Adventure
No Fear:  Dangerous Sports
Ripley's Believe It Or Not!
World Poker Tour
Lord of the Rings
Rock Encore

Star Trek Ltd. Edition
The Simpsons (Data East)
The Getaway: High Speed 2
Pinbot
Evel Knievel

That Star Trek LE plays like a dream.  You would be better off skipping the Pro model at the Union and only playing their Metallica.  Then head over to Motorcycle Supply to get your Star Trek fix.

You're still using the Chill Manuever?  nice work, pops

Hey, a pinball wizard like me has to master games from every era and every manufacturer.  So even though you don't see the center post on too many modern machines, you still gotta be prepared for it in case you come across it in tournament play.

64
What is the expected return on my investment (per hourly lesson)?

Well it kind of depends on your current skill level.  If you are a complete novice and don't know the basics yet, you can expect your average scores to increase dramatically after a lesson or two.  Maybe even 4 or 5 times what you are currently scoring.  On the other hand, if you are already a decent player and just need to perfect your skills, a more moderate increase in your scores can be expected.  Maybe a 10% to 20% increase.

65
i very highly doubt the machines in the union work 100%

Well they worked fine the last time I was there.  In fact, I set my personal best score on that particular Metallica machine, and I've played it in probably 6 or 7 other locations.  May not be the greatest Star Trek machine I've ever played, but not bad.

Also note that if you want to meet at the union for lessons, then you are responsible for providing quarters for each game played.  (I can still bring a sandwich and Shasta soda for you, however.)

66
what are the six pinball machines?

Well actually I only have 4 right now, but there are two at the Union, so I was kind of including those as well.

My 4 Games:

World Cup Soccer '94
No Good Gofers
Amazing Spider-Man
Street Fighter 2

Two at the Union:
Metallica Pro
Star Trek Pro

67
you will travel anywhere in the world for $25?

Hmm, maybe just a 50-mile radius.  After that add $.50 per mile.

1. LHC Bill Snyder, KSU
We got to get this guy!!!  :billdance:

Well besides the obvious reason, I'd like Bill to finish his career with less then 100 losses. It just looks and seems more prestigious IMO.

Which would be more impressive:  making it to 200 wins or finishing with under 100 losses?  Obviously I want both to happen, but reaching 200 would be a bigger deal IMO.

Mormons are awful people

I would say that it's more likely that somebody making that type of generalization out of pure hatred of a particular religion is the awful person.

73
I like BYU.  They fill a 63K seat stadium.  I would like them as a football-only member if needed in the future or maybe have the conference work a deal where they get several OOC games against Big 12 teams each year to help them with their scheduling.  No need to burn any bridges at this point.  For the record, I like the conference at 10 members for the time being.  But with another round of realignment in a few years coming up, we might need them on our side.

Epic. The gift that keeps on giving.  Remind everyone that this is who most fans wanted as the next head coach after Billy C.  We wanted a coach with some fire in his belly, especially one who at midfield addressed a mild mannered Hall of fame coach with a ridiculous rant in 03'!!!

This is the same person folks,  Shouldn't be a shock.  I think we got what we all wanted, and Then some!!!!

If KU is the UT of Kansas, does that mean they're at best, the third best team in the state?  so....

KSU, Butler/HCC/Fort Hays State?, KU  ??

Just realized I forgot A&M, so 4th best?

They would also be behind the 4-time D2 national champion Pittsburg State Gorillas.  (Love the mascot, by the way.)
