I am told that UT AD John Currie made an offer to Jeff Brohm that Brohm accepted. Currie then asked the chancellor to approve the offer — buyout included — and chancellor said no. So Currie went back to Brohm with lesser offer and Brohm said no. So here we are.

Hopefully Scott has fond memories of his time in Manhattan during 2006.

Frost has his eyes set on bigger things.

You all should go after Butch Jones.  Even though he was 9-4 in his last two seasons at TN, he will be fired this weekend after Bama pounds them for the 10th straight year.  Plus, he's a midwestern guy and would fit in well.

C. Austin Cox?
@C_Austin_Cox

After seeing the 77 to 76 score, #UNC tutors explained to Roy Williams' players which number was higher and the Heels celebrated their win.

Franks had no answer to the big Pollack except poking him in the eye.

Thank god no all-Carolina NC game.  One down, one to go.

Nashville's nothing but nouveau riche hillbillies and hipsters out to fleece the tourists.

Both these teams suck.  Gonzaga will eat them up.

The irrepressible, unfathomly great, yet seemingly humble Middle Tennessee State University Blue Raiders.

Sounds like a racist post to me.

Btw, menudo is good for hangovers.  You should try some for breakfast today.

Memphis isn't happy with Tubby and his 3 million per.  Maybe KSU could pick him up.

All those schools just pimped themselves out to be told that they aren't good enough to be Iowa State.

I think expansion to 12 with a North of KSU, KSU, ISU, WVU, BYU, and Cincy was in K-State's best interest.  Sad to see that it didn't happen.

Now, I think it is in K-State's interest for the playoff to expand to 8.
Yeah if you like seasons where you never play a meaningful game.  It's in our best interest then to quit the B12 and just move to the Sunbelt it you just want to play games against nobodies.

Once UT and OK fly the coop and the BIG8 remnants scratch around for a home, you might just find out that schools like KSU, ISU, Baylor, or TT have no more cachet in the sports world than Cincy, Houston, or another half dozen G5 schools.

Playing meaningful games against meaningful opponents is what will cause UT and OK to get out of Dodge when the GOR expires.
no crap, dummy.  but adding those meaningless games does nothing to keep OU/UT around.

if the conference implodes, the BYUs, Cincinnatis and Houstons of the world will still be there for KSU and the gang.

Don't bet on it.  A Big 12 without UT and OK  and KU bball is no better than what Cincy and Houston have now in their conference.  KSU would be a good fit in the AAC west division along with Tulsa and SMU.

We are closer than it looks...
2:52 PM
...to not being that bad of a team.

1. @ Memphis SHOULD finally show Beaty to play Willis full-time
1B. That keeps the opponents defense honest.
2. Beaty has to now know the OL needs help (RB/TE staying in)
3. There's no way we keep dinking and dunking for negative yards

Those are the biggies, but there's also:

4. Bowen called a decent game and should build on it
5. Lee will soon replace Graham at CB
6. All the 1st and 2nd year guys will improve more than other programs 3rd/4th year guys, who are who they are now
7. The OL will improve on assignments vs blitzes

There's another W coming and a few good showings if just 1-3 happen asap. Those 3 things would change A LOT and build momentum in every area. Football is like that. It doesn't take much.

Why Cozart was ever in the mix and why Beaty didn't immediately adjust 2 and 3 in-game vs Ohio and Memphis does concern me about Beaty as our Head Coach.
But...
We aren't winning much regardless this year. As long as he keeps the '17 class looking good and finally rectifies the above issues, I'm still on board for the 5 year rebuild. He gets his own learning curve on being the head guy.

A FAU-Kansas matchup should really be exciting.

24-21 Jayhawks.
Memphis lost an NFL caliber QB last year.  Left with a mid-major talent roster, comparable to KU.
Phog.net reacts on Sunday predicting a 5-8 win season and begins discussing Cozart's NFL potential.

Memphis laid 651 yards of offense against KU in Lawrence in a 55-23 win.  No one needs an NFL QB against the jayhawks.  This game will be similar.

Memphis' opener against Southeast Missouri State University, Rush Limbaugh's alma mater, was a tougher opponent.

BigXII is a dead man walking.  Once Texas and OK flee the coop it's over.

"How Nebraska, Colorado, Mizzou, and most of all, Texas A&M killed the Big 12...."

http://texags.com/forums/6/topics/2770127/1
I'm not reading that but if nobody except aTm left, nobody would really give a eff. The aggies are so below Texas it kills them.

Only the Aggies left?  Lol.  You forget that Nebraska, Colorado, and Mizzou are long gone as well and aint coming back.

Not a good look for a conference trying to remain relevant as the bottom feeders of the P5.  Yeah, right, the BigXII will snatch up Clemson or FSU.  Why not court LSU or Arkansas?  Good luck with that.  Maybe Mississippi State is available.

The Texas Techs, Baylors, KSU's, ISU's, and TCU's of the world are on the verge of finding out they're no more relevant than Houston, Cincy, Memphis, UConn,or UCF to the money driven sports world of college football.  MWC or AAC anyone?   Nothing wrong with divisional rivalries with SMU, Tulsa, New Mexico, or Tulane.

Yeah, that's the general clause for any coach; quit, you don't get your money. That being said normally the AD will make a deal with a coach they want to quit. There is no way Pastner is quitting Memphis for TCU, literally none. If Memphis gave him 10.7 mil to quit, he still wouldn't do it. Memphis is a top 25 job, TCU is one of the worst power five jobs.

What is completely unusual about the contract is that there is no mitigation clause in the event he is fired.  Once fired, no amount of any future salary gets counted against the $10.7 million Memphis owes.  He could take a job making $5 million per year after being fired, and Memphis would still be on the hook for the full $10.7 million.  I've never heard of an coach's contract without that mitigation clause.

His salary is paid by wealthy boosters who are already on the hook.  It's a sunk cost if he stays or is fired.  The boosters do not want to continue to pay his salary and then get stuck paying a new coach's salary.

He is staying because of the $10.7 million, not because any other job being better, worse, or the same.

44
If Josh Pastner got fired this season he would receive a $10.7 million buyout, the biggest in college basketball history.

The buyout for Pastner's salary is actually c. $500K.  The $10.7 million is what the school owes him in total salary over the final four years of his contract, which expires at the end of 2020 @ his present salary of approximately $2.65 million per year.  The school owes that if he's fired.  Even then, there is a no mitigation clause in his contract meaning that if he is fired and takes a job making $1 million a year, that new salary does not offset any of the $2.65 million.  He is still owed every penny of that regardless of how much he makes elsewhere.

If Pastner quits--and Memphis fans are doing everything possible to make his life a living hell--the contract is void and Memphis owes nothing.  In two years, attendance has dropped from over 16,000 to around 10,000 and those are mostly no shows.

It also means the AD at Memphis who negotiated this contract is incredibly stupid.

Rumors are that TCU is interested in him.  I hate to beg, but please somebody, anybody, make Pastner an offer he can't refuse.

you literally smell like raw sausage

I wouldn't know about that.

Having been a Hawg and SEC hater for 45 yrs., I had to go with my comfort zone and root for Arky.  I knew nothing about KState other than that basketball coach who you fired awhile back--Martin somebody who now coaches at no. 23 and undefeated South Carolina.

My one takeaway from this forum is the realization that heartland values such as honesty, the work-ethic, friendliness, and integrity still exist in America.

God bless.

Kansas State Football / LSU fan's take on the Liberty Bowl

Arkansas v. Kansas, er, Kansas State

Breaking News Arkansas Running Backs rush for five touchdowns in a brutal ground assault on Kansas in the Liberty Bowl. As an orthodox LSU elder I I'm encouraging Alex Collins to go to the NFL so we don't have to deal with him ever again. Good News! Arkansas premier wide receiver Dominique Reed is healthy and well after that horrific hit yesterday - all praise due to God - GLORY!!! GO SEC GO!

When the Big XII blows up, you and Iowa State will be the newest members of the AAC.  Iowa State for the basketball, and KState for . . . . . . the Manhattan KS tv market I guess.

This sleepy dude must not know how much rain we got this year, sad...really.

Well Vern, maybe you'll make a crop this year.

Floods, locusts, and drought--it's the wrath of God.

Fayetteville aint much, but it beats a flyblown, dried up dustbowl town like Manhattan KS any day.

When Arkansas folk look on Kansas as flyover country, you know you got problems.
