He's going to get IL in the tournament, he'll get a raise and an extension. He'll be there at least 3 more years. Curbelo and Miller are both really good guards with a ton of potential. Ayo will be gone. But Frazier, Kofi and Giorgi will all be back. Even with the loss of Ayo, IL might be better next year. They play really, really good defense. I'm pretty impressed.

9 seeds don't get a fortunate draw.

KS got a dream path to the F4 last year. Incredibly lucky. Kentucky was standing in his way. I'll give him that. Creighton, UMBC and Loyola? You'd take that every single year, even with UK mixed in somewhere.

You know what's odd? I hear some mention that oscar got lucky that the got to play a team who beat the one seed, but I never hear those same people talk about the misfortune of having to play a clearly misseeded Kentucky team in '14.

Are you saying KS wasn't lucky to play UMBC? Surely not. Have to ask, though. Speaking of UK, how fortunate to get an inferior 2018 Wildcats team rather than one of their juggernauts. But this is all misdirection. Let's say 2014 was unlucky. I'm not arguing that. I'm arguing 2018 was a dream scenario, which it clearly was. E8 is still E8. Gotta win games. But oscar is oscar. He needs luck more than most good coaches.

Oscar giveth. Oscar taketh away. His floor is his ceiling. Most fortunate draw of all time provided a smoke screen last year.

When he goes 16-15 (7-11) next season it'll turn again.

Brad Underwood stinks again.  :bang:

Undies just won at Ohio State. That's 4 in a row, 5 of 6, 6 of 9. Maybe he's not absolutely horrendous after all.

Good news, guys: Underwood has won 4 of 5. Bad news, guys: likely to lose 3 of next 4.

But the team has improved, so at least all hope isn't lost. UI should be a decent team next season, unless Ayo declares. Seems to be about 50/50 right now.

Update: Underwood lost at home today to Florida Atlantic. FAU was without two of its best players. You guys dodged a bullet.

The brad thing is weird. I think the Illinois program is just a big vortex of crap.

It absolutely is. So many problems at UI. But BU is set on playing his style in the Big Ten and it just won't work. Not against legitimate athletes and coaches. It might win you 53 out of 54 games in Podunk Conference but not at the high major level. It's no coincidence his one OK St. team turned things around immediately after he scrapped his defense and went with a more traditional style.

Brad startin' to catch crap from parents.  :shakesfist:

https://twitter.com/audreyrgriffin?lang=en

She might be wrong to air that sort of thing in public, but she is absolutely correct. BU is playing his walkon son in the first half of games over kids who really need game experience. This season is another disaster and playing to conceivably win games over getting a kid like Alan Griffin PT seems a flawed strategy. On top of this, Griffin's younger brother is a big time high school prospect. Any chance BU had of getting him to follow his brother is shot now.

You can't imagine how bad Brad Underwood is. See that IL-Mizzou game last night? Yikes. Weber > Underwood.

And we hit the jackpot with oscar. We already know rough rider.

Wish you could watch this Illinois-Mississippi Valley State game right now. It's nothing if not a beautiful display of basketball in every facet of the game.

Much like Sickle-Cell Anemia, which only affects people of African descent, oscar has the ability to gain the undying loyalty of every middle-aged white man he comes into contact with (aside from new Illinois AD Mike Thomas.) It is inexplicable and it has scientists and psychiatrists stumped. There is no known cure for Bruceism.

I'll just cosign everything Mr Bread said. Last year was very hard for me and many die-hard Illini fans. I literally stopped watching and I literally didn't even know when they were playing. Didn't care. Too painful to care. And I have been a huge UI BB fan since the late 80s. For me to not even know when the Illini were scheduled to play is absurd.

If you aren't already, many KSU fans will be actively rooting for losses.

It's a sick way to go about being a fan, but you eventually come to the realization it's what's necessary to move the program forward.

Illini fans sympathize with you guys. Reading this board is like entering a time machine back to last season and reading Illinois boards. Some posts are almost word-for-word describing their disgust.

If I hear another dickface announcer/talking head say what a great coach oscar is during the game I am going to fracking lose it. It has happened every game that I have watched. How is this possible?  How can it be that we all know he is a terrible coach, he got fired for being a terrible coach, and he is a terrible coach, yet people keep saying what a great coach he is?  It is maddening.

Easy answer: 2004-2005. That season evidently still holds weight.

Illinois under Weber, with all Bill Self recruits, started 29-0 and was the most dominant team in the country and it wasn't close. Unfortunately they played their worst game of the season in the national championship game. That team didn't just win, they destroyed and demoralized opponents.

But it took 5 guys who all were at least fringe NBA players. One of which was Deron Williams, arguably the world's best point guard. Deron took over that team and forced them to become great.

Ever since then Weber has been waiting for another Deron Williams to come along and again make his system successful in spite of itself. The unfortunate thing for Weber is, Deron is a rare bird and he has zero chance of recruiting another Deron.

When he has NBA-caliber players, one of which being an All-World point guard, he looks pretty damn good. When he doesn't, his flaws as a person and coach are exposed and things get ugly both on and off the court. This is oscar Weber.

"That's about as good a defense I've seen a Gonzaga team play," Weber said. "They locked in on Rodney. We probably didn't screen as well as we need to do to help him get open, but he's also got to shoot open shots when he has opportunities."

Best Gonzaga D ever, blames rod.  Vintage oscar here

To act surprised that they schemed to lock in on our best player (on paper)....

....I hate him.

IOW, "They didn't guard Brandon Paul like that when he went for 35. It's not my fault they decided to play defense against us and not Illinois."

I hate him more.

I'm genuinely sorry, KSU fans. I'd like to be able to say things will get better, but they won't. This is Weberball. It loses basketball games and kills the spirit of fans and players.

It would be more tolerable if he were likable, but he's totally not likable. As much as he's in over his head at the major college level, it's not his fault. Your A.D. is a total dumbass for hiring him. Of course you know this.

It is possible you could get into B12 play and win your home games and maybe steal a couple on the road and sneak into the tourney. But if that happens, that will be the high point of the Weber Era at KSU. He's simply in over his head. His style of play is archaic and he will not be able to recruit the type of athletes you need to compete in the B12.

Your best hope is for things to get really ugly, really quickly. Maybe you only have him for one more year. There's really no in-between. You have to hope he somehow does really well or very, very poorly. If he does just enough to hang on to the job, this is your worst-case scenario. Illini fans were literally mad if we won a game last year when things started to get bad. Every loss meant we were one step closer to being rid of him. We couldn't risk winning meaningless games.

I'd say good luck, but it would be more prudent to say bad luck.

Okay, I am sorry to do this, but I am perplexed by the front page of goEMAW.

Quote
Friday morning, March 2 2012, K-State lost its greatest fan, Shwan "Fatty" Alkhatib.  He was in New York City taking care of his brother, Weesam Alkhatib who was undergoing cancer treatment. Weesam passed away on April 14th.

So, Weesam was sick and Shwan was taking care of him? But Shwan passed away before his sick brother? Both brothers passed away? Weesam succumbed to cancer. What happened to Shwan?

I apologize if this is inappropriate. I hate to ask. But I would genuinely like to know about these guys and I am a bit confused as to the details, specifically the timing.

You know one of our primary guards is Will Spradling, right?

Well, I still think McGruder and Rodriguez will be able to have success against Gonzaga's terrible backcourt.

If Weber hasn't already lost the team, you guys can win there. Yeah, the Zags will be pissed, but their guards are terribad. If your guards haven't lost the will to care, they should be able to take advantage.

People have been (or were) spouting off about how this is Few's best team. No. Not even close. They're a good team. But they are very beatable.

oscar Weber is a rambling rough ridin' idiot

I can verify this statement as true.  :barf:
