I have a really good feeling that Jacob Pullen isn't going to suck today in a Fear the Beard, "Eating food off of plate" in the pregame with his teammates, cover of Sports Illustrated, AP First Team All-American, Cover of Sports Illustrated kind of way.
:woot:
-
Agreed. I'm thinking 24 from Pullen; a 3-7 from 3, 7-9 from the FT line, 5 assist and 2 TO kind of game.
-
Wabash909 is my homeboy.
-
Jake, if you're reading this, TODAY IS YOUR BIG RETURN TO AWESOME BASKETBALL DAY. And we've all got your back 101%.
Just no more missing three's and dribbling the ball of your leg, ok?!!!!!!!!!
Appreciate you!

i would rather Jacob Pullen make the roster with the 76ers and have a nice little 3-5 year career in the NBA than K-State win even a single Big 12 game this season.
-
That sounds a bit dramatic, but ok.
-
I'm cautiously excited for Pullz I just don't really understand what changed to get him a chance. I haven't followed his international career but I assume he still has the same limitations he had when leaving kstate ( not an elite ball handler, physical size, etc)
-
I would like to see the details of the contract
-

meh, going ofer the conference is just what the program needs - the real sophie's choice is Pullen making the roster means oscar finishes 5th, wins another play in game and gets a real extension
-
I would like to see the details of the contract
Non-guaranteed, they can carry 20 through training camp, he is number 18. They carry 15 and usually dress 12 for games. I doubt he gets more than a few preseason minutes.
-
We'll aren't you just a Debbie Downer.

TY. I didn't know how this was much different than playing on a summer league team, which he did a few years in a row. I just don't want to get too excited over nothing.
-
He is Two Way Contract candidate under the new roster rules. The Sixers still have one TWC available to use.
-
Don't know what any of that means, but if he plays and scores even one point in an actual regular season NBA game then I will be rough ridin' thrilled. Nobody deserves it more.

It's a new wrinkle this year that is aimed to grow the G League (formerly D League) to become more like the MLB minor league system. 26 of the 30 teams now have a G League affiliate.
With the new rules NBA teams are able to expand their rosters from 15 to 17. The additional two spots are "Two Way Contracts", and those two players can spend a max of 45 days on the NBA roster. The rest of the time they can play in the G League while the NBA team still has their rights.
Pullen is a G League candidate because he has less than 4 years of NBA experience, which is requirement of the TWC.

The sixers are very injury prone so he will probably get to play more than expected.

stats don’t really matter when you’re the #1 pick
-
Good for Jacob Pullen. I am a fan of him.
-
I hope Jake continues to do well, but those 6 points came on two 3s in garbage time.
Also, he's not battling with Fultz for a job so that comparison is pointless. He's competing with guys like McConnell and Blackmon.
-
15 guys have spots on roster, Philly has 16 guaranteed contracts, Jake is not one of them. Want him to make it, gonna be tough
-
Jake will be at Sprint center with the sixers this weekend

I'm starting to get nervous if he'll make the team or not. :ohno: 76ers scored 133 points last night and only got 3 minutes of playing time. http://www.espn.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=400978685
-
I was wondering if he was getting any decent $$$ for this, so I did some research... not great news:
http://hoopshype.com/2015/08/02/the-life-of-the-non-guaranteed-player/
The common misconception is that players who sign non-guaranteed contracts to participate in training camp will receive a salary. They don’t. Like summer league, players will receive roughly $127 in per diem, hotel and all travel expenses to take part. The one added bonus is that players are eligible to receive $2,000 in camp compensation per week for roughly four weeks. However, if you make the team, then your training camp compensation gets deducted from your first check on November 15.
-
So roughly $11,810 a month. Not bad.

someone tell me what a two-way contract is
-
From here: https://www.sbnation.com/platform/amp/nba/2017/7/18/15985262/nba-two-way-contract-2017-summer-league-agents-worried-about-them
Here are the specific details for the new two-way contract:
They will act as a 16th and 17th roster spot for NBA teams beginning next season (2017-18).
The player can spend up to 45 days with the NBA team that signs him, although no time is guaranteed.
The rest of the player’s contract must be spent in the G-League, either for the team’s affiliate or another’s if the team he signs with doesn’t have a G-League affiliate yet. For the 2017-18 season, the G-League will represent 26 of the NBA’s 30 teams.
The player’s pay comes on a tiered salary system, which can last one or two seasons. While in the G-League, the player will make $75,000. It’s a significant increase from the current pay structure for G-Leaguers, who cannot make more than $26,000 with a one-way G-League deal.
When in the NBA, a player with a two-way contract will accrue a day of service and make money consistent with an NBA rookie minimum, which is about $816,000 next season. If a player spends 45 days in the NBA, he could make around $204,000.
In total, a two-way player who spends the maximum amount of time in the NBA would make $279,000.
That’s a lot more money than the G-League has ever presented its players.

It's crazy how little g/d-leaguers make
-
have to give up that euroball money for a shot at the big time
i think even the BJ league ( ) pays US talent more
-
It's crazy how little g/d-leaguers make
When you consider that the teams don't have any fans and don't sell any merchandise it's really not that crazy.

I mean if the objective of the league was to earn a profit from merch and attendance it probably wouldn't exist.

and that is maybe the best "fact" the NCAA has to not pay players - there isn't much of a market for minor league sports in the US of A.
but back on topic, I applaud Pullen for taking his shot at playing in the NBA - It sounds like signing the 2 way contract limits his earning vs what he would make in Europe but at 27 it's time to give it a shot.

Y'all gotta listen to the latest Boscoe's Boys podcast. Scott got Pullen and the interview is great, they pretty much touch on everything except for the Missouri benching as a freshman and If he knows who the hell Spencer Kietzman is. Jake tells a lot of great stories, it's over an hour of great stories from that era.
-
it's the only Boscoe's Boys I've ever listened to (sorry scott) and it was fantastic
-
I can’t listen to it, post the good pullen things in the wildly coincidental thread I’m about to bump.
-
It's literally 90 minutes of Pullen telling stories from his 4 years here and how he felt and still feels about the Weber hire. Listen or don't but no one is summarizing that, lol.
-
Can you refresh my memory on the missouri benching? I don't remember that.
-
We played Missouri right after breaking the streak against KU. If you remember, freshman Pullen was incredible that night. The very next game against Missouri Frank made a big deal about not playing Jake, he didn't play a single second, but he never told us why Jake didn't play, and we lost.
Could you imagine oscar benching Pack last year? I think somebody would literally burn the Ice Center to the ground.
-
I think the Bill Walker episode was more interesting, he is an elite story teller.

Frank did this with Angel against OU in '12 too. Not sure if there was ever an explanation for that one either.
-
Frank was all about sending those messages and seemingly could care less if they cost us some games. It was certainly frustrating at times but I think it helped to get the team to their best come March.
-

lol yes and he opened the podcast with that one

Uh, no. You should listen to the interview. He's also spoken about this before, oscar has absolutely nothing to do with why his jersey hasn't been retired yet

I will!

So many great memories listening to Jake. I want to love cats bball like that again.

I was just talking about this with my brother when we considered what Huggy or Frank would have done to Nowell after he pulled his hero-ball half court last-second shot against Iowa State. Honestly, I don't think Nowell woud have dared pull that bullshit with a strong coach.

lol, you're a weird guy. Did you miss that Huggins just played a game against us where he benched one of his favorite players because the player got T'ed up in back to back games then yelled at Huggins on the bench after getting that second T? Frank and Huggins players do stupid, undisciplined, selfish crap all of the time because they coach 18-22 year olds.
-
I think I forgot how intense Pullen was. Barry might be similar but Pullen seems like he was on an entirely different Michael Jordan level mentality of how he tough and motivated he was to win.

im def in the "kids too soft these days" camp, but note that nowell came up big in the ot and the next game, so not shitting on him apparently worked...though i agree the play was shaqtin a fool level at best
-
If you want to have goosebumps... watch the highlights of the events as JPull is talking about them in the interview.
-
Jake and Jamar were a lot of fun to talk to when we went to the first TBT thing in Chicago. If I remember correctly, he wasn't very happy that a lot of the guys said they would play and be there then bailed. Jamar was hurt, but it would have been awesome to see him play again.

You'll have to point out to me when Frank or Hugs had a player make as selfish or undesciplined play in as critical a situation as Nowell did with his hero-ball routine. It was the worst such example I've witnessed in decades of watcing K-State basketball.
I love Nowell, but he does extremely selfish, stupid things and there's no doubt we'll see more of the same.

I'm just going to assume Frank calling players selfish motherfuckers pretty much every game are examples of players being selfish motherfuckers, weird that screaming selfish motherfuckers at them didn't stop them from being selfish motherfuckers. It's almost like being a high level teenage athlete has some elements of self belief that can and does lead to occasional selfishness.

look at this selfish crap
 at the weird Iowans sounding exactly the same in their weird Iowa'y in both clips. <--- prob edited but still

My favorite part of the interview was just how much Pullen loves K-State and how much he knows we love him back.
Second favorite part was some of the background behind the "I will not play in the NIT" quote like how he was M'F'n everyone in the locker room after the game about how KSTATE doesnt lose to teams like Colorado.
