Best thing to ever happen to the government? Exposing their secrets and lies is just awesome, and its funny how the gov "denounces" wikileaks every time they leak something. Also LOL that Glenn Beck and Oreilly and other Neo Cons like my parents always getting outraged and want the guy who runs it thrown in prison. Maybe its because they know there is NOTHING they can do about it. However, the cia will probably off this guy in due time so the neo cons will end up winning
Btw, thoughts on the recent leaks about the Iraq war
-
The latest ones included stuff about finding some WMDs.

Yeah I know, dudes. Let me ask again...thoughts?
-
Trusting the Feds is tough. Too many personal agendas.

:horrorsurprise: Say it isn't so! Wub correct!?!
All a big conspiracy, they created documents saying they found WMD's then those documents got "leaked". Actually finding WMD's in Iraq helps to rehab the Bush name wich will come in handy for Jeb in 2016.
Come on guys, you dont really think the man would be stupid enough not to use Wikileaks against us? Do you?
-
I would have no problem if their agenda wasn't 100% politically motivated by a far left agenda.
edit: see their lies and video editing with their "collateral murder" videos.
Free information is a good thing. wikileaks is not a dam bursting of information. I consider them to be as legitimate as moveon.org or glenn beck.
-
Whenh do we get the docs about UFOs and 9/11 conspiracy?

Yeah. Colbert actually did a pretty good job calling the wikileaks guy on this bullshit.
-
the blackwater (now Xe services) stuff is kinda mumped up.
-
The wikileaks dude does need to get rolling on 9-11 and UFOs. Some politicians are long overdue being exposed and thrown in prison

how do they get this stuff?? they have inside sources? they are good hackers?
-
how do they get this stuff?? they have inside sources? they are good hackers?
their "collateral murder" video and the 10K+ number of documents came from an army guy who was in the Pentagon who decided he was doing the "right thing" and released them. Took them home on burned cds labeled lady gaga. So much for vetting people with top secret clearance.

This is where "punishment = deterrence" comes into play. The vetting process for that many thousands of employees will never be able to weed out everyone who might do this.

Or the people that previously passed vetting then have something like a divorce/family illness that puts a strain on their finances. Not that that's what happened here, but it is one way people are exploited.

That's why the security office makes you submit a financial statement every year (and makes "flagged" personnel undergo an annual CI poly, rather than the usual 5-year term).

Leaking names of informants for the government is total bullshit. This guy is a total jackass.

Military guys on my car forum also noted that many of the officers now are being recruited rather then "made" into what they are. Instead of being a lifer, too many seem to be using the military for their goals rather then the goals of the military.

I am down with the BOA leak(if it is real) and def with some alien stuff. However, the rest is BS.
War needs to be ugly, or it needs to not happen. Can you imagine what differences might exist in country relations if WWI and WWII were fought during a time when the public had such access to information and data? How about Vietnam?
War is ugly. People acting like this is a surprise are Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!).

He leaked classified stuff. This wasn't war crime info that the world needed to know about. I am not saying he deserves 35yrs, but he sure deserves something. A pardon would be a horrendous move for future.

lol @ the bolded statement. His 9 month stay in solitary was described as this....
UN special rapporteur on torture Juan Mendez found after a 14-month investigation that Manning's treatment at Quantico was cruel, inhuman, and degrading. Lind said the conditions had been "excessive" in relation to the government's legitimate interest in holding Manning.
Almost 3 years total in prison. I think he's been punished enough

Leaking classified information that could potentially lead to the death of US citizens is doing nothing wrong? Sure, nobody actually died. That is why he was only sentenced to 35 years. Anyone guilty of war crimes that he exposed should be in prison, too.

I'm pretty sure it was known Chelsea was gay/transgender before he was charged and sentenced. I mean, some folks in SF tried to make him (back then) the Grand Marshall of the Pride Parade.

In targeting Clinton, Assange may have run afoul of Correa's own preference for the Democratic candidate and a renewed effort to repair strained relations with Washington. The president recently said that while a Trump victory would energize Latin Americans to reject overhanded U.S. policies in the world much in the way George W. Bush's invasion of Iraq did he personally would like to see Clinton prevail.
"For the good of the United States and the world, and for my personal appreciation of her, I'd like to see Hillary win," he told the Moscow-backed RT broadcaster last month.

Seems as if this could have been avoided if we just secured our crap?
The Russians were hacking the DNC, which for some strange reason is considered a private entity responsible for their own security. Really, we would be a lot better off if all political parties were considered public entities subject to FOIA, so if anyone wanted the information the Russians were stealing, they would just need to call and ask for it.

Do LibBots like or hate JA?
I mean he is the guy who said they didn't get the emails from the Russians.
Didn't he also hint (as did Kim Dotcom) that the DNC email "hacks" were an inside job? But we'll never know since the DNC dumped that vat of bleachbit all over the servers and told the clown car Obama DHS that the DNC didn't need any help . . . bleachbit'ing all their servers.
-
My issue with JA is that I think he chooses what to release in order to exert an influence on politics. If he was just releasing whatever he gets, I'm relatively fine with it.

Agreed, the proper term in at least one case where Treason is thrown around a lot should be aiding and abetting.
Albeit providing aid and comfort to those violating a litany of Federal Laws and potentially impacting both the sovereignty and national security of the United States certainly brings Treason into play.

So Assange faces the death penalty, and Chelsea Manning got pardoned?
What he's been charged with carries a maximum of 5 years :ck:
The Justice Department charged Assange with "a federal charge of conspiracy to commit computer intrusion for agreeing to break a password to a classified U.S. government computer," per its press release announcing the indictment. The charge, which carries a maximum sentence of five years, alleges that Assange conspired with Chelsea Manning in 2010 to crack a password on Defense Department computers.

-
Dax, did you even read the 3 death penalty articles you linked? ROFL
I did, the two other countries involved said they wouldn't agree to deportation if the death penalty was on the table. They didn't say they wouldn't agree to the arrest, just that they wouldn't agree to deportation to the United States. As of at least one writing of one of the articles, part of that was still TBD. In addition, for them to even consider whether they would agree to deportation, then the death penalty was at least a consideration or a possibility in the process.
Always here to keep you straight.

Must have been super bored in there and ready for some excitement.
His dramatic expulsion from the embassy follows a year of ratcheting tension between Assange and his Ecuadorian hosts, culminating in WikiLeaks publicizing a leak of hundreds of thousands of hacked emails mysteriously stolen from the inboxes of Ecuador’s president and first lady.
